Power ON Light for DX6i. Why and how.

- **I bought*** a 3rd Spektrum Dx6i, which is the same as my others only this one has DSMX technology.
Since there are no backlights or on lights on the transmitter, I found myself several times leaving the Transmitter on after a night flying session. I made a video similar to this before over 2 years ago and many asked me to tell the value of the resistor and LED, and show better where to hook up the power, so the reason I am doing this now.
My logic is based on Fuzzy Algorithms, and I know many also will tell me to buy a backlight to put behind the screen, but this is expensive at between $45 and $150 and still I can't see it from a few feet away in the dark!
Open up the Spektrum DX6i and add a 3.5-3.7 Volt LED indicator from Radio Shack.
The voltage on the Spektrum is 6v nominal, so any 6v volt LED will work.
But any smaller size, simply put a 100 ohm resister in series with the LED and it will work fine. This is a 3.7 Volt LED I am using.
Make sure to put the negative to ANY black wire in the radio. I used the black wire right on the lower plug.
Then simply solder the + lead to the red wire on the same plug. You can see where I did it in this video.
Make sure no wires are interfering with any stick action and put the back on.
This may or may not void any warranties, but was a necessity to me after leaving it on so many times.
Thanks kindly for all your support. I would appreciate if you would please take a moment rate the video, subscribe to be notified when I produce another RC Television show, and if you know of others that would like to see this video, please pass it on.
Best Regards,

I'm spoiled and bought myself a 9503 a year or so back, even with the fancy back light I still sometimes forget to turn it off. Helpful and practical, thanks for another great how to.
What a great idea! Can't tell you how many times I've left the Tx on. I figured "well, at least it's only 4 batteries instead of 8 to replace!!" This is one mod I'll definitely do.
Thank's again Herb !!
Im a huge fan of your videos even on deployment i never miss your uploads THANK YOU!
Dave, I used your LED power on on my DX6i. Thanks for the tip. The backlight panel prices are cheaper than you think. Only $15.50. I installed mine from 2 parts ordered from Ebay. First, the "EL Lamp electroluminescent panel" was $9.50 and second the "USB 5V DC to AC inverter EL Lamp Foil Wire electroluminescent" was $6. For $15.50 (shipping included), it's worth it. The seller is abakuscom. There are videos on CZcams describing the installation.
Thanks Dave! I did nearly the same thing as you but without the lens after watching your first video. If I remember correctly I found a 3.5v source on one of the unused plugs so I could skip the resistor. I just wanted to talk you again for your great videos. Hats off to you.
Wish I could count the times I have left my Tx on. This is a great idea. Thanks. (Tom)
Just did this mod, and I want to give you a big thanks because I was constantly leaving my DX6i on and killing my batteries.
However, one point of fact. I used the exact LED and resistor in your video from Radio Shack (276-320 and 271-152) and they are no longer $.99. In fact, the LED costs $5.99 and the resistor (pack of 2) costs $1.49. I had to order the Lens cover that cost $.39 each. So overall it costs about $7.87 or a little over $8 with tax. But either way well worth it for me.
I remember the old video, thanks for sharing again :-)
Great Video Dave.
Another sweet pimp-my-transmitter video. ;-) All that's missing are neon tubes on the bottom. LOL Elegant solution as always. Got to get me some of that goop. ;-)
Nice one Dave!
I could not agree more on what your saying, there is wayyyyyyyy too much crap in life to make our lives any more difficult than it is :)
Great video Dave.

I can soooo relate I love watching your vids.
Just like at time, simple and works great! Great video me. Herbert, and what's this strange technology you speak of: actually talking to people using your phone on phones?!?! What?! Lol
Wish i could get that amazing goop in the UK
Awesome video but can you give more information on the small lens...?
I just might try this. I finally had to open mine up to replace the antenna ( yeah, I know: "Never drop your TX") It was easy!
They should have named the new version the DX6x. I'm sure it would have been a 6x... (sorry)
Mystery radio? Can you give me a link to were you got that info? Never heard of it. The only one I heard of was the new dx18, and that ones really nice
Dave,
I'm a newbie. I've only solider a handful of connections. What can I do for practice to make this a good experience for my radio?
I cant find led lens caps at any light store.
Where did you buy yours from?
Yeah. I have a vid where I show 5 $ backlight install in a dx7s
Does this void the warrenty
1:55, what is the mystery radio?
You are so cool love to have a beer or 2 and just chew the fat
spot on
Mat.
Can do the backlight mod for $5 if you buy the turnigy backlight panel off Hobbyking :)
You can. Look for rubber solution glue. same thing.......
Dave what can i say that hasn't already.......... My word's exactly can't stand any more than a simple Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep, oh that means my battery is low......or Beep thats my flight time is up.
Hey you have a voicemail!
Hobbyking sells a backlight for 7$!!!
Do you know of someone who is knowledgeable, reliable, trustworthy, and would do the back light installation for a reasonable price to help a old fart continue modeling for a few more years....the ole eyes could use a little help seeing the DX6i screen....looking for someone in the US
Thank You Tony C
Those are weird RC remotes.
