Am a Scot but I live in Dublin...it is worth your tears, one would have to have no soul if he did not weep at this; Erin go Bragh Agus ALBA go deo.

Thanks for posting this video, lively at times, hard to keep a camera steady , I know,
Here are the words of the Croppy Boy as Sean O'Sé has just sung them:
'Twas early early all in the Spring
the birds did whistle and sweetly sing
changing their notes from tree to tree
and the song they sang was old Ireland Free
"twas early early all in the night
the yeoman cavalry gave me a freight
the yeoman cavalry was my downfall
and taken was I by Lord Cornwall
As I went walkin' up Wexford Hill
oh who would blame me to cry my fill
I looked behind and I looked before
my aged mother I shall see no more
As I went walkin' up Wexford Street
my own first cousin I chanced to meet
my own first cousin did me betray
and for one bare Guinnea sold my life away
As I was mounted on the platform high
my aged Father I chanced to spy
My aged Father did me deny
and the name he gave was the Croppy Boy
It's in Dungannon where this young man died
and in Dungannon where his body lies
so all good people who do pass by
do drop a tear for the Croppy Boy

Yeah because they’re likely to have that bellend in Dublin as a statue , a monumental cunt that got duped by the tories and regretted it for years after the fact.

I think 'croppy boy' is not understood as a term now - I think it was an insult the Protestants aimed at the Fenians - like when people now call East European immigrants (like my wife) a 'cabbage picker'. Really disgusting and offensive and it's good that these hatreds are remembered if only in song.

    • @mattpbent
      @mattpbent Před 3 lety +4

The term "croppy " referred to the fact that the rebels had a tendency to cut off their long hair as a symbolic of rebellion etc ,hence they had cropped their hair and were called croppies

@@mattpbent maybe was like in the English civil war where the monarchists - cavaliers - had hippy flowing locks - like a proto prog rock band - Jethro tull or some outfit like that - and the republicans were called roundheads for maybe the same sort of etymological reasons as croppy boy. Maybe we had more lice than them and couldn't afford shampoo so had to cut our hair short? Maybe that's right?
