I’m on Day 11. I am 44 years old , been biting since age 6!! And this is the first time in my life I’ve actually been able to stop this long (aside from when they were covered w gel overlays and I never kicked the habit then)
I have seen over a dozen of these videos and one tip, probably the biggest help for me, was to identify the precursor to biting. Most people have a ritual they do right before they are going to bite- it could be touching your nails with your fingers, inspecting them very closely, or pick/ biting at cuticles/ skin on sides of nail.
Once you’ve identified your ritual, stop yourself right then. Don’t let yourself do the ritual. Do NOT let yourself bite a hangnail or skin- every trim , or adjustment must be done with a cuticle nipper , a file or a nail clipper. No exceptions.
I’ve also been keeping a note of every time I get the urge to bite , instead of continuing the ritual I write down how I feel, where I am and what time of day.
I also use a nail strengthener and cuticle oil.

I bite my nails when I’m.. bored? It’s pretty much my equivalent to fidgeting. I find using alternative things to fidget with to distract me well enough to stop me from biting my nails works best. Chewing gum was a good one, having a small item in my pocket or just to hold on to and mess with worked just as well too. I had to force myself to get distracted by other things and not bite my nails, but after a while I just dropped out of the habit of biting them. Hope this helped, though it wasn’t really much for tips..

It's amazing how much having nice nails (after years and years of biting them) can affect your self confidence and self esteem. Wishing you continued success on your journey.

I have tried so many things from the lemon with water and baking soda, etc. to putting nail caps on my fingers. none of them worked!!! Something that helped me is that, well I kinda got traumatized💀. My mom got an infection from biting her nails and the skin around and it looked so painful so I became more cautious. I have been biting my nails since a toddler. I’m doing a lot better now thanks to this video. They still aren’t that “long” but I’m slowly getting there :)

All of my friends and have really long nails and there's a girl in my class who literally has hands that would remind you of a model…Meanwhile there was me, so embarrassed that I would always have to hide my hands. Ok my nails were not the shortest, but I could always feel like there was a lot of improvement that could do, iykyk. Once I decided to let them grow but they were really thin and fragile, so they break easily and whenever I let them grow one of them broke, I absolutely hated when my nails were uneven so I had to cut every nail because of that one broken nail!☹ I thought that it was just impossible to stop biting my nails, since it has become a habit. But then I remembered that my mom already told me I was literally born with long and perfectly shaped nails ( some nurses and adults were even jealous 😂😂) so I thought, it was a gift from God, and not everyone was given that opportunity since birth. So, I told myself that it was completely stupid and unreasonable to ruin it. Last time I played basketball I broke my nail, I thought *ok I’m so over this, my nails just wont stop breaking, I’m done wasting my time on this uselessness* then I went inside and before I decided to cut all of my nails again I felt extremely bad because this time they were actually longer than the every other time, they also lasted longer without breaking. I thought my only chance to not have to cut all of them was to fix my nail so I searched on CZcams *How to fix a broken nail* and I did what the video said, after seeing the results I thought *how the heck did I never think of doing this instead of cutting my nails?!* This really gave me hope when I was hopeless!!
Rn I’m on one month of letting my nails grow, I won’t even lie, I’m so surprised but proud of myself!😂
But anyways, *If @Ellie Cardenas and I could do it then so can you!* 😊
Btw, pls wish me luck I’m trying to surpass the girl in my class with the super long nails 😂😂

I watched this video about 6 ish months ago and it took work, but I kicked the habit for good and now my nails look amazing! Thank you! ❤ Nail biters: Y’all CAN do it, my biggest tip is keep your nails cleaned up, keep nail growth polish on it at all times, and keep your cuticles moisturized. The habit is an OCD related habit, so if you don’t have any hang nails or “frillies” as she calls it lol, you’ll have way less of an urge. I've been biting my nails for as long as I can remember and I'm really trying to stop. I've been on and off for the past two to three weeks. What really discourages me is that my nails break so fast. So, right when they grow long, they just break off and then I get sad. How do I stop this? Also, another thing that is helping me stop biting my nails as much as I used to is that my mom said she would take me to get my nails done if I completely stopped (and I'm so excited!).
Today is Day 1 of doing everything it takes to stop my habit! Imma keep doing updates everyday to keep me determined. Wish me luck!
Day 2: I felt tempted but I remembered this and knew that i couldn't
Day 3: Going strong... School was shut down (bc of covid-19) so it should be pretty easy from here on
Day 4: Yay! I did it! I wish I had some vitamin E oil so i can get those little thingies off my skin
Day 5: I bit the thingy... I'm so saddd...Gotta keep going tho. Wish me luck!
Day 6: I bit another thingy... I really need to stop. I am trying my absolute hardest and only bit a little bit. AAAHH!
Day 7: Sooo... I stopped this chain for a bit and started focusing on other things. I noticed that when I stopped thinking about my nails and this commenting thingy, it made me stop wanting to bite my nails.
To conclude, I did this chain thingy for a week and it helped in the beginning. Then, throughout the week, the more I kept thinking about keeping this comment chain going, the more it stressed me out and I started biting my nails and the skin around them. I've decided to stop editing this comment and start focusing on other things. This video really helped me and I want to thank you so so so much.

Nice, thanks for sharing! I have tried so many things too... I am 28 and getting tired of my nails always looking like that (they look like yours used to). I know it puts people off. I appreciate your courage for sharing this.
