  • Waterworks is the BEST mountain bike trail in Orange County because riders of all levels can ride and enjoy it. Beginners can just ride it and enjoy the berms and trees. Better mountain bikers can push their limits and ride it faster and faster. MTB riders who want to jump can session the jumps. In addition to all the different ways to ride the trail, locals regularly work on the berms and jumps to make them better giving the trail a new feel. Waterworks is in the Las Flores Open Space by Ladera Ranch. Some refer to it as part of the O'neill Park trail system.
    Waterworks has two entrances: One off Antonio (With a sign marking the trail) and one next to the solar panels next to the water district. If you enter off Antonio there are a few long switchbacks with wooden bridges humps and berms. If you enter from the dirt there are two small bermed turns that bring you to where the two entrances meet. After the trails meet, there is one short steep section. This is the steepest section of the trail so beginners should walk it the first few times. It is okay to hike with you mountain bike. Soon there is an option to turn left and pedal over to Spitfire. After this fork, just ride the trail and enjoy. At the bottom of the trail, the easiest way to get back is to pedal towards Oso and take the paved trail back up.
    Directions and Parking: From the 5 freeway just south of Mission Viejo, exit Oso or Crown Valley and head inland (towards Ladera Ranch). On Oso take Oso to Antonio and park in the shopping center on the corner of Oso and Antonio. From this parking lot ride on the sidewalk on Antonio until you see thw Waterworks Sign and ride. Another option is to take Oso and turn right n Antonio, then left at the fire station. There is street parking at the fire station. You can ride on the sidewalk to Oso, then take the sidewalk to the trail head. If you exit Crown Valley, turn left at Cox Park and park there. There is a trail that runs along the canyon side of the parking lot that will take you up to Antonio. You can then ride the sidewalk until you see the Waterworks sign. There are many other ways, but these are the easiest to explain. #Waterworks #MTBMOR

    The bridge at 4:45 is dangerous when there is any moisture. When it was first put in we heard about several close calls and crashes. We hit it the other day and it was slick....BEWARE

      It's a great trail, one of my favorites. There are two gap jumps near the beginning of the trail, then all the jumps become pretty safe ( There was an airlift there earlier this week)

      @MTBMOR  Před 4 lety +2

      @@MTBandre There are berms over at the top of Spitfire before you drop in on the ridge. There is a trail back so you can ride the berms over and over. Also, next to the berms is a jump section that is getting built up pretty big. There are also a few section of jumps built along the Ladera Ranch powerline trail. Property of BGR 2 also has berms and jumps, but the trail is much much steeper and the jumps are all gaps. Shovelhead has jumps, but the trail isn't as groomed as Waterworks. There's also a jumpline closer to O'neil park but it isn't easy to get to.

      They will get rebuilt quickly. There are way too many people who love this trail to leave it flat for too long. I just hope they keep the jumps similar so people don't get surprised and injured.
