    It's worth noting that both Johnson and Jeffries fought Hank Griffin. According to Johnson, no one gave him more punishment than Griffin did. Which is why it is interesting that Jeffries seemingly had such an easy time against that boxer. Johnson fought him three times, to one loss and two draws. Jeffries fought Griffin twice - one win, and one no contest. The latter fight lasted four rounds, with Hank running away after having been knocked down twice (Griffin would claim a "draw"). Boxing can be a game of rock, papers, scissors at times.

      More like a hype job. This big bum who's getting over paid is fighting a dude that was 7 years into retirement and this was considered Johnsons biggest hardest fight. It's amazing that people like to pull that race card in thoa face of stuff like this fight. It was 1910 and johnson was making more money than the white fighter and this trash fight was cherry picked to help Johnson.

He would have been fucked up by Joe Louis or any other top heavyweight after the 30’s. He also acknowledged in his own autobiography that he wouldn’t have beat JJJ in his prime. I wish they could remake this in HD the full fight I mean, its hard to see anything in the full version of the fight. Plus if you watch dempsey carpentier most videos have reused clips so it looks like your seeing the full fight where as if you watch the silent full fight there's so much they couldn't restore. Cos carpentier rocks Dempsey in the second in most films with sound but he didn't rock him till later. Its hard to watch the silent films but it's the only way you get to see the greats full fights. In this fight are two of the "greatest evers" in ring history. This fight was advertised as a 45-round fight. Fought outdoors in Reno Nevada on July 4, 1910. The temperature at ringside was over 100-degrees, with nary a cloud in the sky. At 36, old for a fighter, Jim had not fought in over 5-years.During training Jim would lose over 100-lbs getting ready for this fight of fights. Jack, on the other hand, had youth on his side, 32yrs old at fight time. Jack came into the ring that July 4th 1910 having fought and beat the likes of Joe Jeanette, Sam McVey, and Sam Langford. At that time, Jack had no equal, and certainly no better. His skills as a defensive was awesome, and this fighter that knew how to pace himself in long fights, and hot ringside conditions. Of course, the same could be said of "Big Jeff", he fought out of a crouch and still retained that power punch he had in his youth. In this fight, Jeffries needed to get in close and end the fight with one or two of those power punches he had used on Robert Fitzsimmons to win the title. and he didn't need to fight Johnson's type of fight. Round 1 started and ended about dead even. In the following rounds through round 8, the fight see-sawed backend forth.Starting about mid-way through round 9, Big Jeff started fading. The heat factor and Jack's punches begin to wear Jeffries down and by round 15, Big Jeff was being battered badly. Jeffries is knocked down for the first time in his career, he gets up and is knocked down again. This time he is illegally helped up by his cornermen. The fight is subsequently stopped with Jack the knockout winner. Big Jeff, as great a fighter he was, just could not overcome the heat, his age, and Jack's defensive skills. That lost to the great Jack Johnson was no disgrace for Big Jeff, and did not damage his past reputation as a boxing great. He was brave and went out like the champion he was. How many fighters today would fight outdoors, in 100-degree conditions, and for 45-rounds, and 36-years of age? The fighters of those times, the late 1890's and early 1900's, personified the word tough!

      @karlmorgenstern2316 Před měsícem

      @@chriso1585 Look at who he beat before and after getting smashed by Jess. Those two nice winning streaks. He was an active fighter. He may have not been at his peak, but he was a very capable fighter. Contrast that to JJJ. Over 100lbs overweight, no training or exercise for almost seven years, body destroyed by alcoholism. Forget fighting Johnson, he wasn’t in shape to face a journeyman in that condition. Back to Johnson, he had an average chin at best even in his prime… was dropped by the tiny middleweight Ketchel. He ducked Langford and other top black fighters. “Bbbbbbbuut he took a diiiiiive against Willard” “You can seeee he had his haaaand up so the suuuun wouldn’t shine in his eyeees” LMAOOO. Look at the the actual pictures. It’s clear the sun was still in his eyes even with his arm up. So that’s a bunch of dogshit and honestly one of the most pathetic copes of all time. People repeat those lies while forgetting the photos and footage of the match and subsequent knockout are there to see. He got knocked the fuck out and his arm came up as a reflex. Again, his arm wasn’t even blocking the sun so that dumbass conspiracy goes out the window. The fight purse is set before they even got in the ring too so it’s even more of a fantasy to delude oneself into thinking he intentionally went 26 rounds in 105 degrees just to take a dive. Dumbest boxing conspiracy ever. I could say the same thing as a boxer after loosing “I took a dive”. Where’s the proof? The burden of proof is always on the one making the claim. No proof, then it’s a lie by default. It’s almost as bad as the Tyson meatriders who make up endless excuses for him loosing every important fight he ever had by brutal knockout.
      I don’t have a top 3 because as everyone has seen throughout boxing history, anyone in the top 10 has a chance of beating another guy in the top 10 especially at heavyweight. My favorite heavyweights (in no particular order) are Joe Louis, George Foreman, Marciano, Vitali Klitschko, Dempsey, Ali, Larry Holmes, Holyfield,
      Gene Tunney, and Jeffries. I included Jeffries because up until the 70s he was considered the GOAT by several boxing historians as well as other boxers including Dempsey.

      He’d have a slightly smaller frame without the same calories growing up back then, and he wouldn’t have steroids, and he wouldn’t have the same protective hand wraps and surgery to rely on if he broke his hand with a reckless punch. He’d still be a great fighter surely, but there’s a reason the style looked different back then. You even see a difference in style in bare knuckle(with heavily taped hands, btw)and those are deliberately shorter fights, whereas these essentially had no time limit. A lot of them ended based on half on cardio after rounds of wrestling in high temperatures.
