- The engineer Herman Hollerith designed his legendary counting machine in the mid-1880s, which was then used on a large scale for the first time in the US Census in 1890.
This film explains how this came about and then uses the replica of history@IBM to explain how this important invention works.

Thank you, the lecturer, Hollerith and the train owner.
Thanks for such a wonderful video
Sehr Schön! Einer der wenigen leute die sich intensiv mit dem Werk Holleriths beschäftigt haben. Sehr informativ und Hilfreich für das Verständnis der Maschine.

Underrated video. Thanks for such amazing information
Thanks for the video, looked it up after learning about IBMs business with the nazis and basically backing up the entire logistics for enlistment, deportations and the holocaust with hollerith machines. This really had a huge impact and of course built the foundation for modern data processing, really reminds me of doing sql queries in an archaic way.
Thanks for the video and present how it function.Ive watched a few video without the way it works. Im currently reading a book called big data from oxford's a very short intro. It introduces how the Hollerith Machine assisted census back to 1980s in chapter 1. Amazing and astonishing.
After seeing this video,i suddenly realise that how beautiful my CA course is......... Nice video😍LOVE FROM INDIA

If it’s not english why not keep it real and add same language title
You can use the English subtitles, no?
@@MichaelHolzheu exactly. I just watched with English subtitles. This commenter was being quite rude. Thank you for the video. You have the best video I've seen on the topic!
And BTW there is no good German name for the machine, as far as I know. Therefore we used the English one.
