    This isn't exactly percentages, Simon - it's probability isn't it? However ,percentages make it easier to intuitively guess the probabilities. Eg, if you take 100 Chinese, and 25% get a grade A, there's a 1in 4 chance that they will get an A. We tend to use the same rule of thumb when meeting some ethnicities on a dark street late at night - experience teaches us that some types are more dangerous than others, and there's a much higher probability of being stabbed or mugged if you meet someone with certain ethnic characteristics, (generally felt to be 'diverse' and 'enriching') than non diverse , non enriching types.

  • @Wolf-hh4rv
    @Wolf-hh4rv Před 25 dny +5

    No you’re completely wrong. Firstly how do we use averages? They constitute an unconditional expectation. In Statistics average and expectation are synonyms.
    Now the IQ distributions. Ok so compare 2 populations the Green people vs the Purple people. I am on YTs hit list so let’s stick with those colours. We are looking at 2 Bell curves that have some measure of overlap. The Bell curve has number of people on the Y axis and IQ on the X axis.
    It turns out that the scale (the width of the Bell curves) is vey similar for Green people and purple people. So all that remains to determine the overlap between the Bell curves is the mean which gives each its “Location”. Location meaning over what scale of IQ (the X axis) does each bell curve lie.
    Now if these 2 Bell curves overlap pedexactly it means there is no difference between the mean IQs. However should the purple people have a higher mean then their IQ Bell curve slides to the right of the Green people IQs Bell Curve.
    Now if the mean of the purple Bell curve was much much higher than that of the Green people IQ Bell curve there would be no overlap at all, and all purple people would have higher IQs than all the Green people .
    So what is the overlap and what does it tell us? It turns out the Green people have an average of 70 and purple people 100. So when you slide the 2 Bell curves on top of each other you can observe how many Green people and purple people have the same IQ. It turns out that when you plot them you can see that the overlap shows that a small percentage of Green people have an IQ higher than the average IQ of the purple people.
    So that does mean if you are an average purple person ((IQ=100) you may meet green people with a higher IQ than you but this would be relatively rare. It also means with the purples averaging 100 the top quartile of them have a very very small chance of meeting a green person with a similar or higher IQ.
    That is based on statistics (70 vs 100) that I have read from IQ studies in journal papers.

    there are many explanations that dont even have anything to do with race. for example how incredibly common incest is in the middle east and africa. particularly as most people live in small villages. for example in gaza where the average IQ is 75, 45% of all marriages are between first cousins. a further 20 something % are between second cousins. if we're talking about crime statistic there are many other reasons. such as the brutality african and middle eastern children are subject to a disciplinary parenting methods (something people curiously forget when mentioning such statistics).

Since the most basic use of statistics is the comparison of averages from different populations to see if they are on average different, this is going to be difficult to do.

    This is why the public get so confused. When the women was killed by the policeman, all men and police were accused of being potential killers and rapists. If the policeman had been black would the emphasis be on his colour or job?. I recall the police were treated like all potential killers shortly after and men considered a threat. But again, not all women were of this opinion but we assume most would be because of the reports of this feeling rather than actual analysis. I find it interesting that the nurse, who killed several babies, has not resulted in the public being suspicious of nurses and female ones specifically. If it had been a male , black nurse then I think the public perception and the resulting media coverage would be different. Our perception of a child killer would be a male and a person of little or not cerebral skills but this , young, intelligent female nurse must be unique.

    Due to both racial admixture, dysgenics, and varied environmental improvements, the disparity between whites and blacks have no doubt decreased. Not to the point where it is insignificant, the difference is just larger when blacks are in their own, self-made environments, rather than the better societies that whites make.
