    Dear MaCenna, the big couch, the coffee table, the side table and the lamps on it are perfect but the two arm chairs really look too chubby for this pass through area. they would be functional and sweet for a cinema room. two smaller and slimmer classic arm chairs would be great.

      Me, too! And the round shapes add so much interest. I actually liked the coffee table better in the space than I thought I would, though. It looked less rough than it did in full-on daylight at the flea market. Just the wrong size for the furniture. Actually, though, I think it's those chairs that are too big.

      I agree that the coffee table is too big and just a little too rustic. The nesting tables are a much better fit and I'd get a marble remnant in a similar color to the lamps to make the tops. I think it would go well with the black front door and the black on the fireplace.

    So excited for this makeover and all future ones in your LA home. However for this room I’m not liking the swivel chairs. They are too large and the high profile is blocking the view of that beautiful entryway vanity. Some smaller, low profile chairs would be more aesthetically pleasing imo. Can’t wait to see more! And as always, love seeing Kinsley scamper about. 🐶😊

      @Lucinda_Jackson Před rokem +27

    • @Eu-mj6im
      @Eu-mj6im Před rokem +23

      I think if she flipped the orientation so the chairs are near the stair and the couch is on the other side it would even out the color blocking that’s currently happening with the tone of the entry table and spread the doubled rhythm of the lamps and chairs across the room. Right now it already feels cluttered on the one side and empty on the other.

    Oh my gosh! How can you not love the unique arches in your front room?! I've never seen any doorways like that. The rounded arches are my least favorite. It seems younger people are bringing them back, but the thing with trends, they go away and date a home instantly.

Large round table in front of the fire, possibly a couple of visually light chairs at the table for putting on/off shoes and for guests to drape jackets, keep the vanity & lamps with a mirror above, gallery wall at the stairs, a bench in the bay window.

    The part at the start about just having to play around with furniture until you get a layout that you like really resonates with me. My partner and I were lucky enough to buy a house two months again and we've gone from a house of furniture that was carefully curated to that space and then moving it all into a completely different home. You have the previous owners influence of where they put things and it wasn't until this weekend that I decided I wanted to turn our "formal living room" into the dining room and turn the dining room into a drinking nook. It looks so much better and I think I'll experiment more with furniture layout as we learn to live in our forever home 🙂

    Would have love to seen this as a dining room already, with built in closet for entryway-stuff by the door and under the bay window (with bench seating). Or bookshelves.
    The existing dining room area would be great with high cupboards all along the back kitchen wall for temporary pantry and storage, and maybe a slim workbench along the windows.

    Love the squared off arches....its what makes YOUR home individual..otherwise you've just got arches like Lone Fox...which is the style of HIS house. Arches are a massive trend at the moment...you've got something special..don't fall for the arches hype! 😮
    P.s. I love arches..when they're original or in a new build and in context.

  • @bajacowgirl3170

    So for the first time, I am not agreeing with the furniture choices. It's too big for the space and looks like you now have two livingrooms now. Kind of confusing. I think the chairs are way too big (tall). I love the couch, but don't like it in that space. I think having a more airy sitting space, like a lobby area instead of a livingroom, would be better. I would have done four lower chairs facing each other in front of the fireplace with a table in the center. Yes on the buffet as you need a space to plop down keys, purse etc.

    My vote is to leave the arches (that’s actually one of my favorite things about this room) and instead of “correcting” them lean into it and do a checkered pattern on the border. Like using a cream and the wall color you choose. I feel like it could add whimsy but not over power anything. Very French provincial.
    Also definitely do the gallery wall on the stairway and a large mirror over the console. Just my 2 cents 🤷🏻‍♀️😄

    Looks beautiful! Just a reminder to McKenna and viewers- please test vintage pieces for lead! I picked up a very similar vintage coffee table off the side of the road in Austin a few months back- came home, got out a lead test and it had to go straight into the dumpster. I just don't have the PPE, tools or space to safely deal with lead and guarantee it won't harm my friends and family. Most of us vintage lovers know to look for lead paint, but it's also in porcelain, wood stains, etc from that era. Always play it safe and remember to test!

    I love the idea of the front door painted black on the inside & the fireplace, too! I personally love the scale of the chairs in the space, although I can understand that others are thinking smaller chairs would look better. It’s tough because we’re seeing the space through a camera lens & not in person & that makes a big difference. I also absolutely love the lamps. They are stunners! I have downsized into an apartment now & understand your frustration of not having enough electrical outlets . I literally have just one in my living room & it’s in a corner that doesn’t need it. It’s been my biggest challenge in the space so far. Anyway, I am excited to see more LA content- thank you!!! ❤ P.S. I love the darker paint sample!!

    Hey Macenna would you be able to do a video on the stuff you still have in your rental storage and how you would use some of it to style your house. You could also do an online pop up shop instead of having to worry about setting up a physical popup shop! I'm excited to see your new home decor progress, though I really like the arches the way they are I think they are pretty and unique! Everyone is doing plain rounded arches now and I think yours just look more special. I think some bookshelves next to the stair area and maybe some built-ins by the door to add storage and a small coat closet area would be nice. The chairs and couch are not my favorite tbh, they are all too big for the space and have no walking area and flow for when you come into the doorway. The chairs are just too big and not the right style.

    I don’t know why you want 2 sitting rooms. Why not make it into a large entrance hall - get a nice round antique table to sit in the middle which you can decorate with a big floral display and other decor items, including a bowl for keys. Very English country house! I’d also think about building a bench seat into the bay window - great place to store shoes too! Personally I love the arch ways as they are, they look rather art deco to me.
