Lead Oakum Cast Iron Hub Joint Removal

I walk through how I removed a lead oakum joint on a cast iron pipe wye using a 1/4 inch drill bit and a flat head screw driver. This is a long and painful process, but I hope this video helps!

Yup, that's the way we do it in Chicago. Still pouring lead joints here.

Slide hammer would work well if you're drilling it out anyway. Heat it and it may just melt out too.
