Hopefully someday Mongolia develops a world class rugby team. And when New Zealand's All Blacks perform their haka war dance, Mongolia's Sardaukar can perform their war throat singing.
Along with the visuals of the sacrifices/blood letting during this scene, I found the whole thing very disturbing. Well done to Mr Villeneuve for getting this sort of reaction out of me.
Imagine the casting for the guy doing the chant Caster: Ok, we are ready when you are ready Chanter: Ok, let me just chug this barrel of crude oil and clear my throat! ..... Caster: That was perfect!
The chanter is a master vocalist and expert musician who has won and been nominated for multiple Grammys for his vocal contributions. He is also an adjunct professor of applied voice and vocal pedagogy at Azusa Pacific University. This movie was 100% quality through and through.
I loved this scene because it suggests a religious devotion of the Sardaukar to their cause, and no cause arouses more fanatical devotion and zealotry than religion. (No offence intended to anyone, I'm a religious person myself).
Consider something. The Sardukar are the descendants of criminals and dissidents, banished to a horrific wasteland world. Every day of their lives and that of their ancestors was spent in a daily struggle to survive, against the elements, against the dangerous creatures of Salusa Secundus and against one another. But for the strong, the ruthless and the devout, there is a way out. They can be chosen to be one of the Emperor's elite, to win redemption for themselves and their ancestors. The Emperor isn't just their lord, he is practically their GOD and anyone he sends them to fight, isn't just an enemy, they are heretics who they will utterly destroy.
Religion is a huge undergirding motif in Dune. Fremen are religious except you can say that their religion is manufactured by Bene Gesserit order. It is infact that Paul Atreides starts a Jihad or holy war of his own. In the books only the Fremen were a match for the Sardukar in personal combat. I guess you could say that they were both as fervently zealous in their beliefs.
Tbh it would only make the muffled elements seem more muffled. I’m right there with you, but without access to the original sound mixing files there’s simply no way to make that part sound more crisp
I imagine this movie's Sardaukar are what the warriors of the Daevites from the SCP Mythos would be like. *"We are the Daevites. All who stand against us and our God fall."* *"It is Khahrahk's will. It is done."*

I have not seen this movie yet. It is in Red Box already but no hurry. I have the Davib Lynch version which to a reader of the novel it represents a very good dramatization. the ancients already knew the power of sound waves. Appropriate strength and intensity could crush defensive walls, and from the mouth of a knowledgeable priest they could warm up to battle or demoralize an opponent.laugh or not, but there is evidence of this throughout history and still used today.
And since I have children and watch new Disney productions, the power of sound and the human voice has been used a lot, and it's not just a fairy tale.

That's accurate. In the books, the Sardaukar's devotion to the emperor WAS compared to religious fanaticism, if I'm not mistaken.
