What is this "truth" that keeps our SOUL, "shining in the cold?" Is the "cold" in reference to snowgrave? What is the promise in our hearts? Who is with us in the dark?!

Both these lets players tend to read things aloud, so even if your Japanese is at the level of a Potato, you might still be able to pick out a few words or compare two lines to see if their similar with sharp enough ears.

I mentioned it before, but there's also a possibility it's Dess singing to Noelle from the Dark World she's trapped in as all of the lyrics would line up with Dess being familiar with how Dark Worlds work and Noelle's soul "shining through the cold", but much like most Gaster theories, there's not much to build on it past speculation.

I think it's Dess, singing to the player. After, you know, the whole "Kris ripping out his soul and pulling out a f**king knife while looking at the camera and his eyes glowing red" thing. (I censored that because of youtube being annoying)
@Chaotic Glitched I considered it, but the way Don't Forget is sung almost seems like a lullaby, like something Dess would sing to Noelle when she was little.
Also _"The promise in our hearts, don't forget I'm with you in the dark"_ sounds a little too intimate to be between Kris and Dess. It's not impossible, but Noelle just makes the most sense to me.
@@NRobbi42 kris, asriel, noelle, and dess were all good friends when they were younger. it's implied that something bad happened to dess and it could've caused the tear between the holidays and the dreemurrs.

When I first heard the wong that was what I thought of. It seems likely there is a connection.
I agree that there is at least a small connection with that photo to Deltarune, even if it’s not the song. Toby Fox is an honest-to-God madman. EVERY SINGLE THING he has put in these games have served a purpose. There is also the “Darker yet darker”/Gaster and the Clam girl turning Goner at the end of Undertale that relate/reference/connect to Deltarune. I strongly believe that Sans workshop is another one. Once is an accident, Twice is a coincidence, and Three times is a pattern.
Interestingly the usual interpretation of that picture implies that Kris is smiling, which, seems interesting

I usually think it's Toriel too. Mostly because Kris was probably happier when Asriel was there, and Toriel sang a lullaby like this to them as children. Seems like a "if it gets scary, pretend I'm with you" thing.
The future version of HalfBreadChaos should be called FullBreadChaos, from a future where the chaos has taken full effect, aka after the release of more of Deltarune's chapters.
Because when chapter 1 was released, people went crazy, and when Chapter 2 was released, Snowgrave/Weird route and all, people went considerably crazier. Just imagine what the next release will be like.

Yeah, I definitely think that Ralsei is the most likely candidate for the singer. He meets most, if not all, of the major criteria:
- Close with the Main Character (Very attached to Kris)
- Promise in Our Hearts (Likely referring to the promise between the Delta Warriors to seal the Fountains and save the world)
- With You in the Dark (Accompanies us throughout the Dark Worlds)
- Uses Both Kanji and Kana
- Uses Correct “You” Prounoun (Kimi)
- Uses Correct “I” Pronoun (Boku)
Hell, even the female singer can be chalked up to Ralsei’s overtly feminine nature.
What seals the deal for me is one of the DELTARUNE Line Stickers, which literally depicts Ralsei singing Don’t Forget. And the lore significance of these stickers should not be underestimated, considering that one of them alluded to the Snowgrave Route years ahead of time.
Lastly, it is possible that Ralsei had been singing this song for some time whilst waiting alone in his castle for the other two Delta Warriors to arrive, which could be what Onionsan was referring to when they bring up the song coming from the sea. The excerpt that we hear at the end of Chapter 2 might actually be Ralsei singing the song again, waiting for Kris and Susie to return the next day.

I think that Don't Forget serves the same purpose that Love Like You does in Steven Universe. The situation and feelings the lyrics describe is that of caring for someone deeply and not understanding why they reciprocate that care, because you don't know what someone as incredible as them sees as worthy in you. There are many characters in the show who feel that way about someone (Greg about Rose, Pearl about Rose... quite a few characters about Rose/Pink in fact, but also likely Steven about Connie, and Steven about his mom, as it's not limited to romantic relationships), and it could apply to any of them. So, I think it's possible that Don't Forget could be sung by many different characters to many other different characters. Ralsei reminding the Fun Gang (and you!) that he'll always be there to help, come hell or high water, Susie promising to remain Kris's friend regardless of how strangely they might act, Chara, HIM... the list goes on. Heck, HBC suggested the idea of it being Berdly as a joke, but it could very well be him reassuring his newly made friends that he'll always be with them- after all, it meant everything to him when Susie and Lancer told him that they didn't care if he wasn't a genius, so the reassurance that he'll always be there for him could be him paying it forward, so to speak!
I know that this interpretation is more vague and thematic than precise and analytical, but I think that I'm at least sort of onto something here. I'm very curious to see how it might apply to the relationships between characters and us as players going forward, as the ones we have now continue to develop and we see more in future chapters!

Something I noticed is that the first couple lines of Don't Forget line up pretty much perfectly with the first couple sentences of the prophecy for the Roaring.

To be honest, I kind of always thought it was _us._ We're with Kris in the dark, are we not? It feels like we're comforting Kris. "There's a light inside your soul that's still shining in the cold"- that's us, talking about us. We're reassuring Kris that we'll be with Kris as long as they need. Also aligns with how Jevil's theme features the song heavily- because Jevil is so meta, he knows of us. It's like he's mocking us, telling us he knows.

“You whispered Noelle’s name,” and suddenly she is already beside you as if she never left.
That and the fact that you can spy on Susie from anywhere and command your party seemingly telepathically seems to show that the soul can be with anyone in the dark (but only in the dark).
I've always seen it as either Ralsei or Asriel. For a storytelling perspective, it would make sense and fit into the narrative. Now, for an Undertale perspective... It definitely usually seeks to break the expectations, so I don't know.

......I always thought it was _us._ It seems pretty obvious to me, it's us, singing a comforting lullaby to Kris. The light inside their SOUL is _us, we're_ with Kris in the dark. I don't get why this was never mentioned in the video, because doesn't it sound like the most logical answer? It's the player, singing a song of love to Kris.
What interests me most is the subject of the piece - the singer could be anyone and Laura's performance might even just be a "cover" and not the voice of the original speaker. But who is being spoken to? More on that later.
Spamton says to Kris, "you're lightner, you've got the light... why don't you show it off?" He also mentions wanting the HeartShapedObject just before this. If "there's a light inside your soul," then together this means that lightners uniquely possess some kind of light, and it's an attribute of or a power within the SOUL. Spamton needs the SOUL to "see past the dark and stare into H E A V E N", presumably also by the light within that heart. Dark Fountains are also blasted away in a burst of light from the SOUL, while a Don't Forget riff plays. Save points, too, are described as "a light that only you can see", and they fill you with "certain powers".
But, what else is a certain power "that all lightners possess"? Oh no. It's the Determination question. Because it could be that "the light" is determination - the power in Deltarune to create Dark Worlds and what was the SAVE power at least in Undertale. If so, determination is also the power to destroy or leave Dark Worlds. But it could also be that determination is a power opposite or beside the light - the creative, escapist power of Dark vs. the saving, reality-checking power of Light.
Either way, it seems that while "light inside your soul" should be an obvious reference to Kris or the player, it could still be talking to any lightner - they all got the light. Since it's "still shining in the cold", yeah that seems to be about the Holidays. Can't say exactly if Dess sung to Noelle or Noelle to her, or either to Kris, or... But I'd guess that the song will have a poetic or cathartic ring to it - that it was just a childhood lullaby once for one person but by the story's end it means more and applies to many people.
There's no agreed-upon gender neutral voice because none exists in reality; trying to craft one out of other real voices will inevitably sound like a highish man's, a lowish woman's, or from someone whose face has been turned into a robot one.

Yeah, Chara’s inclusion would be redundant and a poor twist.
A theory I share is that Kris, Dess and maybe Asriel and Noelle fell into a dark world before, and had to fight their way out, only Dess either fell or fell behind. Perhaps this song could be a promise is between them, “if you become lost, stay determined, and ill find you”

The background of the Goner Maker sequence, that almost watery looking stuff, has the same or a very similar texture to that of the Fountains. Are we in a fountain at the beginning of the game? Or am I off base?
Also the thing behind the figure when you put smile_og into a spectrogram looks like a fountain.
I have this crazy theory that the Titans that Ralsei mentioned are Players, which would make us, in-universe, also a Titan that potentially doesn’t realize they are the same thing Ralsei was talking about.
Along with what you said, the Titans’ “faces” are giant SAVE points, a power that the Player ultimately has absolute control over in any video game/universe.

Dess is a possibility I think about a lot. Her mysterious disappearance was probably traumatizing for Noelle. And we know from evidence that Noelle tends to repress traumatic memories. If you keep that in mind, the line “Don’t Forget, I’m with you in the dark” has another impact. This could very well be Dess telling Noelle to remember her, or remember what happened “in the dark”
(Perhaps when they went exploring in the graveyard at night - hence, in the dark)
Some other lines can be explained just by them being siblings.
“The promise in our hearts”
Perhaps Dess and Noelle promised eachother something? Maybe something Noelle needs to remember?
“There’s a light inside your soul that’s still shining in the cold”
‘In the cold’ is pretty easy to tie to the Noelle (or just the Holiday family in general)
The light inside your soul portion is a little harder. Dess could be reminding Noelle of her inner hope/determination? Noelle is seen being easily manipulated and conditioned to a role of obedience and servitude. Perhaps Dess is remindering her of her own identity/individuality? “The light inside your soul” could be a reminder to Noelle that she’s her own person, she has her own light.
This is all very vague connections, and there’s a large possibly im wrong. Feel free to correct me on anything 😁

Ok about Berdly:
He goes through the beginning of a character development prechapter 1, due to he not wanting to cause danger to Noelle but needing the knowledge she has to keep up a façade despite knowing it is wrong. We also know that he and Noelle talk about more casual things like games, due to a comment via Rudy in chapter 2's weird route.
During chapter 1 interactions we see very little shift in this if at all.
At the beginning of chapter 2 we see him try to prevent Noelle from needing to trouble herself with having to read out loud a segment of a story, a story that is suggested at this time to imply a dark future for Rudy and Noelle, which considering what Rudy is going through right now and how it would be difficult at first to properly vocalize the story when you are more shy and soft-spoken, in a segment when it would be seen as Berdly being rude it could actually be him showing a large degree of caring for Noelle.
At the end of chapter 2 he admits his shortcomings to people he was nervous with, causing him to initially take a "I am me so I am good!" look due to our perspective, but we could tell the true source of his reasoning is for Noelle's safety and care, even if it is entirely misguided and leads to him being "Fallen down" in the weird route due to his immediate reaction of Noelle's new perspective and the fact you would need to trick him to get him to hurt Noelle. While we commonly portray nervousness as trying to be shy, a less explained one is trying to out-show the person in question for they are actually trying to show that they are decent and good, even if their methods are wrong, ie: Berdly throughout the entirety of the story so far. Anyways, Berdly admits his failures to Kris Susie and Ralsei, and then afterwards seems to act less stuck up, which could be that he is less nervous at the end of the story. Due to the fact that he and Noelle can act casually we know that he had likely already explained his situation to her and she is going along, which is entirely in her character to do so.
TLDR: he went through a minor character shift, but we are able to notice it because he is less nervous with Kris and Susie due to his less stuck up attitude, meaning that at the end of Chapter 2 we helped 2 characters be less nervous, both basically showing one of the two forms of nervousness. Also we help 1 character be more friendly in Chapter 1 so that might be a trope that happens should we stick to the "Normal" routes.
In an undertale iceberg video, i saw some stickers that toby uses. One of them was referring to snowgrave route before it even came out, other one was ralsei singing "dont forget".

Regarding Chara, I used to strongly believe she was involved, but now that we got ch2 and the alarm clock... I'm not so certain anymore, even with the japanese pronouns stuff. Like you said, sans Can change founts, so there's no reason the Doctor wouldn't be able to do the same. Does sans uses different japanese "you" when he's not talking in comic sans ? What kind of "You" IS used at the end of ENTRY NUMBER 17 ?
What if this song was actually our theme ? Like, the player's theme ? What if WE are the "light inside the soul" ? Idk I think the lyrics could make sense from this perspective aswell...
Also, i'd like to point out that coldness is often associated with Darkness and the absence of Determination in Undertale, so maybe that's what the song is refering to Because yeah Ch2's weird route was about freezing ennemies, but i doubt that future weird routes will involve ice. I'm fairly certain that ch3's weird route will not feature snowgrave. It's more likely that we'll get something like idk "Fire storm" or smth so i don't think that Noëlle is the one with us in the dark

I think the genius of this song is that it can be be applied to different characters with different contexts without changing the lyrics, and that it was actually intended for all of them.
I think that Ralsei is fully aware of 4th wall stuff but there's absolutely nothing malicious about him. Not a single thing. I say this specifically about the part where you say he's prioritizing the player's over Kris's feelings - parenthesized text indicates someone's thoughts (see a ton of snowgrave Noelle interactions), so I think Ralsei is attributing the decision to Kris and going along with it. Also, if he prioritized the player so much, I don't think we would see him going behind the player's back to explain things to Kris.
on the topic, I think the way he avoids things and says to just not think about it too hard is his own coping mechanism or w/e offered in good faith - something you'd probably need with the kind of knowledge he has.

I totally agree on Ralsei knowing about the player and caring more about them than Kris. There was a lot to pick up from, even without knowing Japanese! I actually think that he mostly expected the player, not the fun gang, that's why he was so happy and motivated in Ch 1. During Ch 2 he starts doubting himself a bit and trying to think out of the box.
So, what I presume his arc is going to be, learning true friendship. He bonded with Susie already. If he has to choose: Kris or the Player, who will he choose? Or will he be so helpless, he'd ask the Player directly? Does he choose a friend or us?
I wanna say that anyone can use any pronoun, so referring to yourself can change depending on the mood you want to communicate (although more commonly influenced by the social situation). However knowing Toby he clearly likes being deliberate about that sort of thing so I'm assuming he's thinking along the same lines you are, and the 1st/2nd pronouns are intentionally character specific. I literally didn't notice at all the difference in Kanji usage between light/dark worlds when I played, I just mindlessly thought sometimes the translators decided not to use kanji here and there, lmao I'm a genius I tell ya

Seam uses all three writing systems (hirigana, katakana, kanji) while Gaster avoids hirigana completely.
Seam's 'I' pronoun is 'atashi' (here it implies age) and 'you' pronoun is "antara,' (highly informal).
That's a tense contrast to Gaster's formal 'wareware" and 'anata.'

1-Those are Asriel's memories
Temmie refers to this scene as "When Asriel regains his memories" and the game files call it "Room_asrielmemory.xml"
2-The memory we get at Waterfalls is also likely Asriel's. in Waterfall Asriel's statue plays the song "Memory" which has the same leitmotif as "His theme"
We also get this memory after falling into a bed of golden flowers, which have Asriel's dust/essence in them

so the thing is, in music "君(kimi)" is actually very typical even if you'd normally use something else, so in fact the use of "私(watashi)" is actually more interesting because in music for the first person you would normally use "僕(boku)" even if you usually use something else

I have absolutely no clue if this will bear fruit, but I can't help but notice that "don't forget, i'm with you in the dark" could sound incredibly sinister if spoken by the wrong person. And it's that part of the motif that plays when you seal the dark fountains.

I’m most drawn to the idea that the singer is either Asriel or Dess because the song has big big sibling energy. Was firmly covenced it was Asriel since the first verse works so well as him trying to reassure Kris after a nightmare that his big bro is literally in the same room as him. My theory is now more on Dess given her disappearance and the possibly of her being trapped in the dark in someway. But I like the idea that Asriel and Dess created the song together to comfort Kris and Noelle.

I like to think that its Toriel, even though she's not with us in the Dark World, she is very close to Kris because... Do i even have to explain? She's Kris's mother.
I feel the necessity of pointing out that in the FAQ section of Chapter 1 Toby Makes it REALLY clear that Deltarune is a "Different World" than Undertale, Normally I would think this means that Deltarune and Undertale are 2 totally disconnected stories, but I feel that It is really Strange that he says that they are "Different Worlds" multiple times, expecially knowing Chara's Dialogue in the Genocide Route "Let us erase this pointless world, and move on to the next.". I feel like Toby would know about the infinite amount of Undertale AU's (Alternate Universes) and try to market Deltarune as an AU to separete the story from the OG seeing that he make's it clear in the post that Deltarune has "different characters, that have lived different lives." But he sticks to "Different Worlds". I can't think of how this could Help in a Theory and it probably doesn't but i feel like there isn't people thinking about this

There is a group of deltarune line stickers, and one of them is ralsei singing don't forget. So until new evidence is dropped it's safe to say it's ralsei.
They also foreshadowed snowgrave so these stickers are important.

I don't seem to be making it to every video anymore, but not doing so's a big mistake! Somehow, in the short time the chapter's been out, you've not only started decent by covering more than most others, but exponentially improve your presentation. The only channel I recall using sprites like this was Underlab, but you quickly found good ways to integrate them into everything in a way that feels more genuine. There's no moment where nothing on the screen neither helps your points or presents in-universe jokes, and the consistency's a rare treasure! Admittedly, the text to speech is at times a little dry, but changing it now would be worse than continuing to use it.
While I don't quite understand the statement about how the music box is powered (the water seems to be interfering with it rather than anything else), there seems to always be more about it unacknowledged. It does share the his theme leitmotif, but is much bigger in figure than any boss monster besides Asgore. I see it as a symbol of protection, as it/he overlooks and possibly shields the smaller figures.
Ah fair, the flavor text says "the structure at it's feet seems dry." When you put the umbrella over it, it changes the flow of water so that the mechanism can run again.

you know how there's that whole theory about a character (usually Chara) interrupting Gaster in the beginning on the game? y'know when the vessel customization screen goes to black and the "your vessel will be discarded" message shows up.
I was wondering if the japanese translation could help us find out who that character might be, with their use of pronouns and alphabets and whatnot. Itd make for an interesting theory i think!
In the comic paper trail ( a wonderful fan comic btw) they say the song is sung by asreil, comforting Kris when he has an episode. It is very sweet, and the comic hits you hard with it. It has now become my head canon till Toby fox tells us what it means.

I say this because the church has double doors, the bunker has double doors, and more importantly asgore’s shop has the double doors at the top in the back area.
I say this because Flowey could return in asgore’s place.

I wanted to mention one of my theories, that chapter 3 basically takes place in the town being transferred into the dark world fitting the lines « When the light is running low(creating the dark fountain), and the shadows start to grow( the end of chapter 2 cutscene), and the places that who know feel like fantasy(the town Kris lives in being transported into the dark world)

I mean,about the ralsei soul part, the reason he insists only Kris can seal the fountain may be that Kris has a human soul, which we know is a lot more powerful than a monster soul
The way you mentioned that character talk in Kanji in the Dark World but not in the Light World made me think, what if everyone has their own perception of the other characters in the Dark World? If the characters act and talk differently in the Dark World than in the Light World, then maybe they aren’t the ones we know, but the distorted versions of them in Kris’ mind.
