- A new amendment to the citizenship bill has being introduced by the government of India which will make it easier for illegal immigrants to obtain legal citizenship. This bill, if it becomes a law will put immense stress on the north eastern states of India, especially Assam. In Assam, there are big protests happening against this bill. It threatens the tribal and indigenous people of Assam. I explain what problems will this bill present for every Indian why we should be concerned about it.

That's the only privilage tribal population have in state whose administration is hold by Bengalies. It has met the same fate unlike thier neighbors in Chittagong hill tracts in Bangladesh, whose (tribal) were 97 percent state and has gone down to 55 percent.
The Truth is Bengalies in tripura are either from modern day West Bengal or Bangladesh, no matter weather they settled 100 days ago or 100 years, by having citizenship Indian or not they will be still considered outsiders for Native Indigenous population.

Bro, how do you get such data of 1947 ? Data starts from 1951. In 1951, Hindus constituted 72 % and Muslims, 25%. You may say Hindus no has decreased to 66/67%. It is not decrease in number, but just in proportion. If you know math well, you would understand this , otherwise not.
Anyway, lets try to leave this narrow minded attitude of claiming our number is decreasing,but theirs is increasing. Instead, let's talk about how to develope and improve underserved people. Eventually, Muslims population would also decrease. Rapid increase in population of a community implies illeteracy and poverty of the community.

Bengalis were are and always will remain immigrants in the North-East region. There was not a single Bengali in this region before colonialism in 1826(when NE became a part of India). Assam is for the indigenous people of Assam like Bodo, Mising, Keot(Kaibarta), Tiwa(Lalung), Rabha, Deori, Kalita, Ahom, Moran, Koch-Rajbongshi, Dimasa, Karbi etc who have been living in this region before colonialism in 1826 not for immigrants like Bengalis(both Hindu and Muslim), Biharis, Marwaris etc.
Ahoms came from China via Thailand. They are not Indian. they changed the name Kamrup to Assam and the city Prag Yotish Pur to Guwahati.
Ahoms are indigenous people of Assam. Bodo, Mising, Keot(Kaibarta), Tiwa(Lalung), Rabha, Deori, Kalita, Ahom, Moran, Koch-Rajbongshi, Dimasa, Karbi etc who have been living in this region before colonialism in 1826 are indigenous people of Assam. Bengalis(both Hindu and Muslim), Biharis, Marwaris etc are all immigrants. Assam has border with Bhutan and is geographically located in South-East Asia and is very close to Myanmar, China and other South-East Asian countries. Due to this reason the culture, traditions, customs, traditional dress, traditional food, physical appearance etc of the indigenous Assamese people are completely similar to South-East Asia and compelety different from mainland Indians. Also, Pragjyotishpur and Kamrup are derived from Non-Aryan Austric or Tibeto-Burmese words which has been Sanskritised by the Aryans. Most of the indigenous Assamese communities are either Austric or Mongoloid in origin not Aryan-Dravidian mix like the mainland Indians. Guwahati means city with big betel nut or a weekly market of betel nuts. The habit of chewing betel nut and its respectable position in the indigenous traditional Assamese society is completely similar to the culture of South-East Asia like Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam. It was the Ahoms who united all the indigenous Assamese communities into one indigenous Assamese community. Assam and the whole of North-East India was never a part of India. It became a part of India only after the Yandaboo treaty of 1826. Barak Valley was actually the home of the Dimasas and other indigenous ethnic groups which has now been overtaken by immigrant Bengalis. In Tripura the indigenous Tripuri people have been reduced to a minority in their own homeland which has been overtaken by immigrant Bengalis.

This is just Jumla to get vote in Assam, there is Bangladeshi in south Assam who lived there for generations but when Sylhet voted to be part of Bangladesh when Pakistan got independence , that part of Assam voted to stay with India. Sir,
As citizens of this country, we register our deep anxiety and
distress at the proposed amendment of the Citizenship Act under
consideration of the Joint Select Committee of Parliament.
Whatever humanitarian consideration prompted the proposed
amendment granting citizenship to persons belonging to minority
communities namely Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and
Christians from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh, it is going
to be highly inimical to the indigenous people of Assam and to the
federal structure of the state.
At the moment, based on Assam Accord, at the intervention of the
Supreme Court of India and on the instruction of the Central
government, the Government of Assam is engaged in intensive
updating of the National Register for Citizens (NRC) to include
people permanently residing in the state till 24th March 1971 and
to treat them alone as genuine citizens of the country.
The present attempt of the Central Government to extend
citizenship beyond the cutoff date of 24th March 1971 is not
acceptable to the people of Assam. The state of Assam is already
overburdened with high influx of foreign nationals from
Bangladesh, causing serious economic and social distress and
identity crisis for the indigenous communities of Assam. Under
these circumstances, the proposed amendment poses an
existential threat to the existing indigenous communities.
In view of the above, we request you to withdraw the proposed
amendment, or at the very least to exempt the state of Assam from
the purview of the proposed amendment to the Citizenship Act.
Further, we request you to permit the people of Assam to submit
their views in their own mother language in view of the fact that
neither English nor Hindi is widely known among the indigenous
communities of Assam.

Dhurev I'm mixed, English, bangla & Indian we have Hindu family members living in Bangladesh, in, UK, USA, Canada, German, s/afric they are living a very good life, in Bangladesh & they are not oppressed, on my last visit on holi & Durga pooa, we never felt any threats, everyone joined the celebrations with us, Muslim natives & many other religion, I'm well travelled, I was in India in the 80's ( babri mosque demolition time)& I saw how Muslims were attacked their shops & home which were burnt, some Muslims were burnt a life we were really scared to help them, that was the 1st n last I visited India, & that trauma will stay in my head for ever. Reduction of Hindus in Bangladesh, have your ever thought they have immigrated to western world for a better life, for a better future for their children, I'm glad my grand parents moved to the west in the 60s, like many I know, I know most professors, teachers, civil servants & people in government sectors are Hindus in BD. My gran was privately taught by a Hindu pandit & she was a Muslim, the padits grand son moved to UK, which was sponsored by a Muslim, my uncle, people many change their religion, their land, but end of the day we are all human, every religion there are extremists who are uneducated they use violence, hate for their own agenda, but amm admi just wants to get on their lives.
