    Make it slightly positive to keep dust down. You can do this by making the intake fan’s curve more aggressive compared to exhaust. Keep in mind that intakes often have to overcome impedance from the filters and mesh, whereas the exhaust often doesn’t, so you’ll need to account for that as well. If you set same amount of fans for intake and exhaust but do not account for this, and set them all on the same fan curve, you’ll end up with negative pressure instead, and end up having more dust entering the rig.

    Yes, but it doesn't have enough buoyant force to affect much in an actively cooled case. Going from 25°C to 70°C only decreases the air density by about 20% (1.23 to 1.03 kg/m³). That creates the force of about a few grams given the volume of an average case, which the fans can easily overcome.

    Common misconception. Yes, hot air rises, but because of the RPM of your fans being so high this occurance will never take effect as the speed in which the air moves from the fans greatly outweighs the air moving up on its own due to heat.
    In general, it doesnt matter what the configuration is, you will always have similar effects with case fans. Positive pressure, negative, it very rarely matters. I personally use a negative pressure in my case and it works fine. As general info though, you should always have more of one type of fan than the other, wether it be intake or outtake doesnt matter.

      @adamriaz8203 Před 3 lety +6

      @@1122markj Positive air pressure basically means there's more air being pushed into the case than is being exhausted out.
      E.g. having 2 intake fans and 1 exhaust fan would mean that more air is going in than out.
      Dust is going to enter the case from holes in your case where it can travel with air through. With positive pressure air is being pushed OUT in all holes other than intake.
      This means that if you attach dust filters to your intake fans and have positive pressure, the only major source of dust will be your intake filtered fans. You can then take off the filters and clean the dust every 2 weeks or month/s depending on long it takes for them to get dusty. All other holes will have air blowing out and so it'll be hard for dust to enter from there (while the PC is on).
      You will still have some dust entering your case but it should be a lot less. Other factors to consider are if the case fans are of the same model or not as this will affect how much air they move. The example with 2 intake 1 exhaust assumes same fan model and that all the fans run at the same speed.
      Hope that helps :)

    the idea that "hot air rises" is quite literally blown out of the picture by any of those fans running at like 5% or something very low.
    You just want the hot air to be pushed out of the case into an open area of the room the thing is in, that doesnt mean it needs to come out of the front or the back.
    But with that said, some cases are designed to be a specific way. So unless you are willing to remove fans and flip them around, maybe just do the front to back like most case designers tend to have it already.

  • @anthonymorris8891
    @anthonymorris8891 Před rokem

    I'm not saying this is bad advice, but it's very vague. Positive pressure is usually a better option as long as your case has plenty of areas for air to be pushed out. I have had an issue with an old PC with a tower style CPU cooler where the fan in the rear of the case was fighting with the CPU fan so be mindful of that. The reasoning behind a positive pressure setup is it will exchange the air faster IF the case has plenty of ventilation i.e pcie covers with perforations or vents on the bottom of the case. If you don't have ventilation then the air pressure in the case will rise and drastically reduce air flow. If your case doesn't have good ventilation the a push/pull setup is what you should use.

      @vincentguttmann2231 Před 3 lety

      Well, and here's the explanation for those wondering why it should make a difference: Theoretically it shouldn't. But it does, on a case with fan air filters.
      If you have a slightly higher pressure in one of those cases, excess [filtered] air will push out through all the nooks and crannies. If you have a lower-than-ambient pressure, you can suck air in through there, which will be unfiltered and bring more dust into your case.

    Positive pressure doesn’t work like most are thinking. Unless you have sealed filters on all of your intake fans, they are blowing dust into the case. With numerous intake fans, you are actually sucking more dust into the case that you would with equal intake and exhaust, which is why most PC makers use an even number, it’s most efficient and economical way to remove heat from the case, period.

  • @RockyTheFluffyFox

  • @MrMichealHouse
    @MrMichealHouse Před 2 lety

    It might be better to go with more intakes than exhaust fans for positive air pressure. That way air will leak out of any available hole or slit pushing dust out. Also make sure to filter any air coming in but not any exhaust. We want to prevent dust from getting sucked in but we don't want to prevent any dust getting blown out.
