  • It’s been 16 years since Madeleine McCann disappeared from a Portuguese resort while on holiday with her family. The case garnered international media attention but despite numerous lines of inquiries and various sightings, Madeleine was never found.
So how did a three-year-old seemingly vanish into thin air and why has a concerted international police investigation never been able to produce a concrete explanation?
In this new series former Met detective Peter Bleksley welcomes a panel of criminal experts to analyse how Maddie went missing and why she’s never been found.
Joining Peter this week is criminal barrister Oliver Doherty, former Detective Superintendent Shabnam Chaudhri and Sky News' Crime Correspondent and Author of 'No One Got Cracked Over the Head For No Reason' Martin Brunt.

I am Portuguese and I find it fascinating how some details are never discussed in international media. They drugged their kids and left them alone. The hotel wasn't as close to the restaurant as most of them want us to believe. The parents refused to answer questions when interrogated.
Their friends screw the crime scene just by being there. And it became political. So, even if Portuguese police made some mistakes, the parents, the media and the influential friends they had didn't help at all. Because, if the parents were Portuguese, they would have been arrested and charged. I am sorry for that little girl, because she is the only one who I know is truly innocent on all of this.

Gerry is a Mason. The police are Masons. Gordon Brown is a Mason. Either the police & PM covered up or they didn’t want to believe the McCann parents were involved. They definitely protected the McCanns. I think a sedative was given because Madeleine had previously wandered off & had cried out when left alone & due to her being dehydrated it lowered her heart & lung function enough to cause death. The parents probably didn’t realise as they were getting ready to go out, but probably found her just too late to revive her just before they left or during one of the early checks. I think Gerry was the one who found her dead & hid her body. Kate was never told where Madeleine was buried so that she could not slip up in interviews. I suspect Kate administered the sedative & Gerry hid her body. Or both gave her a sedative & caused the overdosing. Because their collusion is so complete. My views are based on early interviews with the McCanns.

Normally a holiday with small children is centered around them and if you do want some adult time you try and get away for a few days at some other time and leave them at home with close family. You certainly do not leave two BABIES (the twins were babies) which everyone seems to forget when thinking about a nearly 4-year-old child. her siblings were 18 months old!

And if an EVRD alerted? Eddie was an EVRD, it means he was trained to alert to more than one type of scent. He did not bark once for blood and twice for cadaver, his alerts were the same for whatever he detected. He would alert to dried blood from a living person and Putrecine which can be found in urine, as well as other body scents and cadaverine. An EVRD was the wrong type of dog to bring to Portugal and this was clarified by the PJ after Amaral was taken off the case, something Amaral should have done fro the start. You might like to google search forensic canine white papers by Martin Grime, published in 2018. You will find EVRD's are no longer reccommended and Grime say's a dog should be trained in one type of scent only.

I have always felt from day one the parents lied through their teeth. Ask any parent of three toddlers, you would not leave them in a flat alone with no adult keeping their toddlers safe. We all know toddlers wake up, have falls, get into something they should not. These parents refused the babysitting service on site, and it's said these two doctors medicated there children. This case has always stunk to me everyone who investigated came to the same conclusion, no abduction. I got that the father was in the club, hence the involvement of prime minister of the UK and others. Ask yourselves did Ben Needham who disappeared on the island of kos get prime ministers, coverage by world media, millions from UK gov for finding there child, no, does it still get publicity no, so what's the difference, I also believe bruekner is a fall guy and another reason the deep state involved and an typical fall guy found to close the case. I can’t understand how any sane adult can leave their kids alone sleeping at home or in a holiday home/hotel and then go to a restaurant. It’s so irresponsible. You don’t leave to have fun and let your kid home alone. Kids can wake up and walk away, do things and harm themself or the house if they found something as a knife or matches and put the house on fire. As an adult you need to be around. No one would leave their toddler to the daycare and the babysitter went to a restaurant when the kids have a nap. No one would leave their kids there but it seems to be okay at holidays and a Friday night because mom and dad want to have fun. So irresponsible!

The parents stories are not inconsistent, not their statements anyway. There was no evidence of an intruder because the police messed up their chances of collecting any. 'One of the best cadaver dogs detects the past prescence of a corpse in the apartment'....really? Eddie had a very keen nose which made him good at his job, but his job was to alert to blood from a dead or living person and the scent of a corpse. He was never trained to give different alerts for blood or cadaver. Why do you think he alerted to a cadaver?

We in Portugal know what happened. The little girl died in the apartment and her body was hidden by the family (probably helped by someone - they have very good contacts)
These commentators don’t seem to even know the basics of the investigation. The dogs (cocker spaniels from the English police) found dead person’s smell both on the apartment and the McCann’s car.
Madeleine is dead since that day.
The parents who were doctors could have devastating consequences to their jobs, careers and reputation, because they left her and the brothers ALONE in the apartment. They also gave her medicine for her to sleep.
We know all of this and all of it was kind of hidden under the rug. It’s quite annoying to see the English public having such a bad ideas about the Portuguese police and it’s findings.
Madeleine is dead and the parents know it since that day.
The guy they have as the main suspect, despite being a piece of sh*t, and a criminal, has nothing to do with this case. He’s a scapegoat.

We know what Eddie and Keela found and that she died in apartment 5a of the Ocean Club!
In his report Mark Harrison listed cases of success that offered a reliability of guarantee and he asserted that if "the dogs came to signal Madeleine's death!" THEN IT WOULD BE A FACT!

before you say it wasn't temporary because she's still missing, the parents must have surely thought it was temporary? so why call a british newspaper when you are on holiday in portugal?
and the way people condemn the Portuguese police's actions is terrible. why would the police corden the area? it wasn't a crime scene, was it? unlocked doors, open windows? kid wanders off and get's lost in a foreign country...........................
it was only until the dogs came in to identify it AS a crime scene (due to blood and dead body detection skills of those 2 dogs). up until that point, it wasn't really a "crime scene".

As a retired police officer, I point out that your criticism of the Portuguese police is unfounded; if a child is reported missing in the UK the initial officer(s) must search the building and outbuildings to make sure the child is not hiding or injured within the boundaries of the home - they do not treat it as a crime, unless they see something to suspect that, and the Portuguese police saw no cause to think a crime had been committed because the parents originally said the door was left unlocked and Madeline was missing - not taken (they later changed their story to the door was locked and someone had taken her...even though there was no evidence of forced entry).

I live in NZ and am sick to death of hearing about it. Who is it that keeps it in the media constantly and why? Why would we over here in NZ need to be reminded of it each fortnight or so, for 16 effing years? We've got our own missing kids that have never been found and some of them went missing many decades ago. A lot of these kids stories don't even make it to the media in the first place. Why does no one question that and why do journalists not bring it up as entirely and absolutely suspicious, that their colleagues keep putting it out there so often, 16 years on?

I think that the answer to your question is diversion. It is obvious to everyone that a second and highly covert agenda surrounds this case which must never be exposed. Periodic focuses on spurious suspects and evidence keeps the theory of an abduction alive. My big fear is that in order to prove to the world that it was an abduction sooner or later a fall guy will be found. The guy that they have under arrest in Germany at the moment could well be the man as I believe that the has a dreadful criminal record including heinous and deviant crimes. So on that basis alone there will be many who will be pleased to see him locked up for life, the abduction will be proven and the case closed for ever.

They declared she was taken from the unlocked room but were not physically looking for her. The cadaver dog detected a scent of a dead person on Maddie’s cuddly toy. (And in the room and their rented car) They washed it the next day and then kind of laughed about it in one of their interviews. Their interviews are hard to watch. A dog with a predisposition to be trained as snifferdog and can deliver High-quality results regarding cadaver odour and blood odour and is therefore continuously tested for the correct passing results.
Only after a long period of efficient training/education are they at least ready to be used by the Police?
This was/is the case with Eddie and Keela and their world famous handler Martin Grime who provided a breakthrough in the Madeleine disappearance case and her DNA could be secured! (a fact that no one in the world can deny, despite the McCanns pathetic response that Eddie and Keela were supposedly unreliable?)
A snifferdog trained to search for TRUFFLES wouldn't return to its handler with Carrots, Potatoes or Tubers, WOULD IT??
    "100% SURE ONLY WITH TRUFFLES!"

Gerry McCann poo pood the dog handlers findings and low and behold it was laid to rest. They found cadaver traces behind the sofa, on a shelf in the cupboard and in the boot of his hire car hired AFTER her disappearance……how can you possibly explain that away ??? The Portuguese police solved this crime in 2007 but were unable to arrest the prime suspects and was forced to let them escape to the UK because of interference from the British government. When the McCanns lost their libel action against Goncalo Amaral the Supreme Court did point out that Kate and Gerry had never been cleared by the Portuguese police.
The British police investigation, Operation Grange, which started in 2011 had a narrow remit that did not include the McCanns or their friends, the Tapas 7 so they were not interviewed or investigated.
This was confirmed in 2017 by he former assistant police commissioner Mark Rowley.
Unless the people who were there at the time can be interviewed and investigated Operation Grange will go on for ever.

Because of this case (I was 24 at the time) now at 35 with little kids I never let my child get even ten feet away from me. It's actually terrible to live with this much anxiety, but better safe than sorry.
Their problem was they left the children alone to sleep. They made the most ridiculous choice. I don't know of any parents who do this. I always take my kids with the stroller to the restaurant. They can sleep in the stroller. The fact several couples, all educated individuals, thought "this is safe for the kids" blows my mind.
Yes the police were sloppy, they didn't react quickly. But trafficking in the Mediterranean is very serious. It should be punished with the death penalty.

The last thing your thinking of is someone is going to abduct your child. You would be shocked at how many children go missing abroad one of the worst for children going missing is Disney land in America so I’m told. We don’t hear of these cases Madeleine’s case got media attention because her aunt contacted British media because they didn’t think the Portuguese police were taking it serious and they knew time was of the essence if they were to find her. @@ellenlyons4090 That is absolutely what he said, and at the same time he absolved the parents of any wrong-doing. Yet again the parents are getting away with blatant negligence. Maddie did not go missing as a result of "taking the eye off the ball", she went missing as a result of serious neglect. The Portuguese police took this very seriously, they just didn't believe the narrative that the parents were innocent and they believe the parents are guilty in some way. They contacted the British media for damage control because they know that they're the ones in the wrong. Also, she went missing *16* years ago, not 15, and she would be 20 today, not 18. Literally your entire comment is 100% incorrect.

Why do you feel the need to speak down to people and take it personal that Martin Brunt wax suggesting British holiday makers neglect their children whilst abroad. The initial PJ investigation revealed two things 1. There was no evidence of an abduction 2. The available evidence indicated that the child had died in the flat. At that point, the UK government intervened to change the course of the investigation to an abduction. The key question is why ? The obvious answer would be that the government acted to prevent any investigation of the parents. So what is the UK government attempting to conceal here ? The key to solving this case would be to complete the initial PJ investigation by thoroughly investigating the parents, the tapas 7 and their high level connections in the UK. However, that will never happen because they have been declared off limits to the UK police. This has all the elements of another UK Establishment coverup that may even span borders and perhaps even continents.
