    Video Description - Credits - Series Description

    This is the first tape that mentions Arcade Acres. VHS cover said it was “Night of the Living Dead”, which would make it one of the few talkies in Meursault’s collection. The latter part of the second commercial seems corrupted- I think the owner tried to film over the original footage in a lot of these.
    After these first few minutes, "Night of the Living Dead” plays in its entirety, so I felt like there was no need to upload the full tape. If you really want to watch it, it is public domain, so you can find it almost anywhere.
    Check my blog for updates. PLEASE contact me if you have any information about this park. -Gregg.

    “Arcade Acres Amusement Park” is an analog horror series about Gregg K, a 29-year-old film blogger on the search for an amusement park he went to in the 90’s, but he doesn’t remember much about it.

      When I was a kid (no old jokes please! Lol) there was a show called Romper Room for little kids. The lady had a "magic mirror" you were supposed to stare into while she named every kid on the show. It was really freakin trippy so I wouldn't watch it. I think it was a government secret operation created specifically as a means to hypnotize all of us kids. That freakin mirror with it's swirly colors you're supposed to sit, gaze into the damn thing, and start drooling. LMAO!

    Having the commercial cut to the abandoned pool, coupled with the sound of the man entering the water, quickly followed by a lifeguard whistle, paints a grim picture in a creative way!

    I like how when stuff starts getting creepy the perfectly timed chills pool seems like it's in a dark abandoned room with IMAGES of the rest of the park plastered on the walls.
    Gives it a really liminal feel and also sets up the company for being scummy since if they lie about the pool being outside like normal pools then they are obviously lying about the cutting edge technology, and thus they are also lying about many other things

    Interesting, interesting! The only thing I'd like to critique is the use of creepily distorted versions of the mascots at the end - now, there's nothing inherently wrong with using a standard trope, but does this part actually enhance the horror? I don't think so. Still, this is very promising! Wondering where you'll take this one. By the way, how did you actually create this? I've wanted to create something like this for a while, but lacked the skill to pull it off.

    • @frankiecrowe
      @frankiecrowe  Před rokem +12

      Hey, thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate the constructive criticism; I feel like it's a fair critique.
      I know that most of the apps, software, etc. that I use are listed in the description, but I really want to highlight Blender and Autodesk Sketchbook.
      Blender, I feel, is incredibly underrated as a video editor. (It also allows you to create special effects and flourish such as film grain) Autodesk Sketchbook, I use to draw frames for the animations, and also to warp existing photographs. Both have been fantastic in this process, and I spend 99% of my time bouncing between them.
      Thank you so much again!

    I love the premise! It’s a great start and I really like it, however I do have some constructive criticism to offer, if you don’t mind.
    -The colors are way too vibrant. There’s not enough grain and fading and whatnot to obtain the VHS style you were going for in my opinion. I love the artstyle but with the clarity and whatnot it’s a bit immersion breaking.
    -The animation style, the tweening(? I’m not sure) where the animated parts simply glide across the screen is too high tech for something meant to give off an old timey vibe. I am no expert in older era animation, but back then a lot of animation was cel-animation with individual frames. I honestly don’t expect you to change this because individual frame work is a pain in the ass, but at the time computer animation software was just getting its start so seeing that clear, computer framed animation is jarring.
    -The transition from normal to “scary” is sudden, and not in a good way. It’s not subtle, it’s very out there, and it doesn’t sneak up on you. I would suggest a slower transition with a few hints of something being “wrong” before going into the deep end. Also, once everything is wrong it doesn’t return to much of a period of normalcy. Hence the next point.
    -With the last point in mind, the scares then don’t deliver that much of an impact. Glitched audio, weird faces, frames that stay on for just a LITTLE too long are classic analog horror keystones. You have to have that element of surprise for them to work, so I suggest those being the ones given in periods where you assume everything is back to normal now. They shouldn’t be subtly introduced in this case, they should come out of nowhere once your viewers feel that sense of safety with a hint of still being on edge.
    I’m not a total expert on animation and horror, so these are simply my opinions and ideas that I have derived in my own thought process. I love the concept a lot and it is very processing. Good job man, keep it up!

    • @rockii6177
      @rockii6177 Před rokem

      I can’t edit on mobile, so I’m just clarifying: I DON’T want you to transit to hand drawn traditional animation. It just needs to be less floaty if that makes sense. The characters gliding from one side of the screen to the other makes them look both stiff and obviously key-framed to move across the screen. I’m just advising that you do some actual frames so that the characters move.
