We're caught in a trap
I can't walk out
Because I love you too much, baby
Why can't you see
What you're doing to me
When you don't believe a word I say? (Don't believe a word I say)
We can't go on together
With suspicious minds (with suspicious minds)
And we can't build our dreams
On suspicious minds
Should an old friend I know
Stop and say hello
Would I still see suspicion in your eye?
Here you go again
Asking where I've been
You can see the tears I cry (see the tears I cry)
We can't go on together
With suspicious minds (with suspicious minds)
And we can't build our dreams
On suspicious minds
Oh, let our love survive
I dry the tears you're cryin'
Don't let this good thing die
You know I've never lied to you
No, no, no (yeah)
We're caught in a trap
I can't walk out
Because I love you too much, baby
Why can't you see
What you're doing to me
When you don't believe a word I say? (Don't believe a word I say)
We can't go on together
With suspicious minds (with suspicious minds)
And we can't build our dreams
On suspicious minds
Caught in a trap
I can't walk out
Because I love you too much baby
Why can't you see
What you're doing to me
When you don't believe a word I say?
I'm caught in a trap
And I can't walk out
Because I love you too much, baby
Why can't you see
What you're doing to me
When you don't believe a word I say?
#FineYoungCannibals #SuspiciousMinds - Hudba
It's 2024 and the version of this fantastic song is still as good as ever.
Might be controversial but I actually think this is the best version (including the original...).
Anche io la adoro
Always loved this cover and yes it's timeless so I will still be singing along in many years to come 😊
true!!!
These gentlemen really made this song their own.
Damn. I miss the 80’s and the likes of the Fine Young Cannibals.
Don't leave out the 60's & 70's!!!
When the original came out!@@stuartsandler7755
me too
Eu tbm. E muito.
Jimmy Sommerville filling in the gaps with his falsetto. CLASSIC!!
Just heard it, its not like I have heard this song multiple times!
What, 40 years later it registered with me that it was him!? ;) Totally obvious now!
Always thought this was the only cover version worth listening to.
Never twigged it was Jimmy Somerville, in all the times I’ve listened to it.
What is wrong with me?
It’s May, 2024 now and I’ve heard this version as much as, maybe more than Elvis’ original, over the years.
6-13-24: RIP, Mark James, your songs enriched many lives, including shivers up the spine.
Brilliant and still love it in 2024!
When a song still makes you smile after all these years, you know it’s a classic forever.
It's Elvis' original, you mean. ;-)
It's not "Elvis original"
Ummm, Elvis wrote this and performed it a looong time ago. But this is one hell of a great cover version!
@@jonathansadkin1534 Elvis Presley did not write this song (or any other song). This song was written by Mark James, and released by himself in 1968. Elvis Presley released a cover of this song in 1969
This is definitely my favorite cover of this song. Amazingly good!
One of the best from the 80's. I think Elvis would be impressed!
Ah the 1980s, good times! Great decade to be a teenager: the great music and bands as above , the fashions, the shops, the movies and TV shows. Such fond memories 😊
Well, not the fashions or most of the music, but yes. I like this, but my taste in 80s music was more the Cure, Jesus and Mary Chain, Husker Du, Replacements, etc. So not the stuff you would hear ten years later at 80s retro shows, sadly. :(
I sure do agree 😊
I reminisce about it a lot!
Absolutely. I was mostly a metal head back then, but the place I worked played top 40 so I'd hear a lot of the more mainstream stuff. My mom was always playing Elvis when I was a kid and this was one of my favs this is a great version.
Fun times....no hate, no screeching and no division like we have today.
Olen täysin samaa mieltä kanssasi. Terveisiä Suomesta 🤗
Jimmy's backing vocals are brilliant.
What an amazingly unique voice. Love the song & Roland’s version.
Reckon it's better than the original too.
What an underrated band...Wonderful vocals from Roland...dare I day it better than Elvis's version..in my book definitely
Definitely better. Elvis version is too slow IMO
Nah. Elvis is better. This sounds like a goddam ripoff. Sounds shit too.
Fyc are one of my favourites. Very good song by Elvis with brillian, the best version with fyc..
This cover is different, but nothing beats the original.
Not even close dude😂
How I love Roland’s voice....
This band was a true gem. It’s just a fact. They’re that fucking good.
That voice is whats making me hate their music with a passion
O yes..so true..😍
@@drstihl2007 There is nothing wrong with his voice.
Roland Gift is a truly gifted singer!
The backup voice of Jimmy Sommerville was the icing on the cake
my wife and i met and spent time with roland and his then girlfriend on the isle of symi way back in 1988.what a great guy and such talent! dave and di.
This classic song defo deserves more views.
Elvis is honoured - RIP
fantasic version the king would be happy
This is a really good song. Still listening in 2023. Anyone else?
Yes
Yes, totally.
Yep. And Jimmy Somerville on backing vocals really adds to the song.
In 1986, the band Fine Young Cannibals' cover version, which features backing vocals by Jimmy Somerville, reached No. 8 on the UK Singles Chart. Singer Roland Gift said that Elvis had come to him in a dream and told him he would record the greatest version of "Suspicious Minds" ever.
Matthew Vaughn uses this song in his new movie, doesn't he ?
Love Jimmy’s backing vocals and the distinct crescendo at the end of this classic Elvis cover. Bravo!!!
Jimmy who ?
@@wowcher7996 jimmy sommerville
@@mooseylad I was thinking Jimmy Page.
Can't miss that voice, go Jimmy
Elvis' version is also a cover, though.
A light passes through the diamond, from one face to another and gives Life to a new beautiful changin' color. From ELVIS to FYC, another different kind of magic.
It’s 2023, and still gives me a goosebump
I got the goosebumps right now!
❤
They never flaunted their cash. Roland lives in a regular home and is a family man. And yes can we go back to the 80s please when great bands like this were in the charts 😢
that's exactly what this video does
what a charismatic dude he is, remember thinking that way way back then. And I wasn't wrong!
Bellissima canzone
Well, the internet reports Roland has a net worth of $2M. So there's not a lot to flaunt and he would want to live in a regular house.
Played the 12 inch version till it was the original 7 inch . How bloody good is this , never knew it was that Fine Young Scotsman, Jimmy Somerville adding his vocal talents to this masterpiece at the time .What a great recording.
After all these years.... Perfect
Ab fab!!
It's beautiful!
Agree and the bass is amazing
Brilliant 🤩
Johnny come home was ace xx
Formidable groupe. Une superbe interprétation d'une très belle chanson ❤
Roland Gift was one of the coolest frontmen of his time.
You really have to tip your hat to the producer of this record! This is a very hard guitar part to play, even for a professional, and then to layer the horns on top of Roland's amazing vocals at just the right moment is really par excellence!
As non-guitar player, why is it a hard part to play. Thanks.
@@amarais389 it falls inbetween picking and strumming
2023 and I’m 25 years old, and wasn’t even thought about by my parents never mind growing up amongst it all, what a time the 80s must have been!
The 1980s definitely were a time of joy in musical experimentation and overall optimism... which shows itself in the music, styles, and dancing of the era. There was a feeling that humanity could actually change things for the better if we made things happen.
Am thinking about you lol.xxx😊
My sis interjected FYC to me
The very late 70’s until the late 80’s was a blast. I made two Western Pacific/Indian Ocean deployments on a U.S. Navy ship during that time. Was the best time of my life!! Great music, great friends, great travels!
Lots of coke.
Quite by far, one of the finest cover versions of all time.
Roland Gift was one of many who auditioned before his fellow FYC band members, who understood their sound and wishes for the right vocals before listening to him. They heard the magic formula. How brilliant that must have been.
I’m still listening in 2020 and encourage you to share with others...
2022 now bro. ;D
Baby please don't go ... acdc ... thank me later 😀
My sister went to school with him, he was that talented even at Senior school
Still lovin it in 2023!
Love love love their cover of this epic Elvis hit even after so many years. The understated smooth dance moves, their outfits, the black and white to colour, the tempo building up, his fine vocals.
Hell yes!
Actually Elvis' version was a cover as well. Originally recorded by the songwriter, Mark James.
@@pwatts8846 As always though whatever elvis covered it was impossible for the original artist to make that song sound as good 😂
@@stuartsimister5042 Quite true in this case. The Mark James original is on You Tube, interesting to hear it. It has a little of the song's magic.
All ready a cool band,,then to do a Elvis hit,,,,WOW !!! Did it wth grace and respect,,no BS backup,,100 dancers,, crappy techno remix,,thank u Lads !!!
The Fine Young Cannibals just nailed this tune harder than Elvis ever could. Me and my mom both love this song and whenever we are hanging out together one of us will start playing this tune and it just makes me smile.
One of the most underrated British bands with just the best cover EVER!!!!!
Too bad they broke up so soon.
i don,t know what drugs your on but this cover is fucking terrible.
@@danstar455 look up Roland Gifts interviews he's interesting. He tells why they ended so soon.
This is probably the best cover version of an Elvis song. I'm very critical bc I'm a huge Elvis Fan, but the FYC did a great job💗
I also love UB40 I can’t help falling in love with you and Cheap Trick Don’t be cruel. Elvis would be proud 🥹
Elvis covers this song he didn’t write it.
@@GrizzlyMerrick1912 Pretty much every Elvis song is a cover.
I do like the Dwight Yoakum version more.
100% 👍👍👍
That bass line is quite something.
The horn player deserves more credit.
Even in 2022 this song ROCKS! WHAT A VERSION!
The best version by far what a voice
Who's listening and watching this in 2024?
me
Me too.

Moi
Me
Almost 2023, and this version still slaps
Yep 👍
Slaps of awfulness?
Yep
14 de septiembre 2023 escuchando buena música 🎵🎵😊😊
Meh - Blake Shelton much better version
Jimmy Somerville on backing vocals just makes it better.
Such a distinctive voice.
That's for sure, instantly recognisable. This was a cover version I didn't see coming at the time.
Simply an exquisite remake of classic Elvis. Love Jimmys back vocals !!!!!!!
Joe is the one that can sing other artists music and make it his own and sounds far better. He’s the best ever .
In my opinion this one of the best covers of all time, it surpasses the original
no chance
L take. Its good but the original was sung was The Elvis Presley
It's an amazing cover, an excellent rendition. I really love this version. But it's not even close to Elvis.
Its a great version, and I've been a fan of fine young cannibals since they broke through in 1985. But crikey, "surpasses the original", Elvis, stop being silly.
I agree, I prefer this version over the original. I think it was because I was a teenager when it it was released and it takes me back then...
9 pm, summer evening, watching the sun go down across the fields from a wooden balcony, large glass of ice cold vodka, this song playing loud, life don't come much better than this.
I was right there when I read this
One of the greatest cover versions of all time
I have to agree.
I totally agree.
I really don't care about the original .. this version is simply perfect
Listen again, carefully. Jimmy Somerville's backing vocals is what takes it to next level.
AND best guitarist dancer of all times 😁
Roland's voice is just WOWMazing
this song brings back the memories, i can relate to this song, found out 21yrs later i had a beauitful daughter Emma, passed away 2013, aged 28yrs xxxx
I'm so glad I grew up in the 80's!!
I am too, It is hard to believe nearly 40 years have gone by.
Me too, yeah
Me2
Same!
I'm with you...the 80's were the best!!
Roland certainly had a gift!!!😅😂
Nobody Could of pulled this Tune off better,Than the fine young Cannibals 😮
Best version of the song by a mile.
Until a few weeks ago, I had absolutely no idea that it was Jimmy Somerville doing the backing vocals for this song. What a pleasant surprise and just makes the song even better!
Really? Jimmy Somervilles voice is one of the most unmistakable of the 80s... 🤔
I wasn't awre of that either.
I know who the hell "Jimmy Somerville" is, now. because you Typed his Name and Capitalized it. Thanks
December 2021 and this tune is still so dangerously brilliant, a true masterpiece
Fave song by the Fine Young Cannibals: “Johnny Come Home”! xoxo The Clarences
They did it their own way and it ROCKS..Great band!!!!!
They even got Jimmy Somerville to do back-up vocals.
Sir Jimmy makes this song so so so amazing
Love hearing Jimmy Somerville in the back ground
if only I could wangle my legs around like the two heros behind Roland.
😂😂😂😂😂 much as love roland and Jimmy, it's the dudes in the background nearly falling over that makes this very special. What a classic .
What a great rendition! FYC, we miss you!❤
My childhood in a nutshell , my Dad got his first brand new car in 1987 , was a Ford Sierra and it had a cassette player , The Fine Young Cannibals was the first tape he played in it , special memories
Jimmy Sommerville in the background with the FYC...
Nothing else for me...thank you the King ...
Oh yes, yes yes. Fine young cannibals. I loved them and "him" so much! They seem to be kind of ignored in music history. Not ignored but not remembered enough. They were fantastic.
The best by the Fibe Young Cannibles,, even Elvis would lobe this version.
An excellent cover. Brilliant
Elvis will be proud he really was a king.
Fk Elvis. Pedophiles 🩸
Still to this day I cannot understand how come FYC has stayed so underrated, really..
Only 2 albums and over-saturated with She Drives Me Crazy
One of the best remakes💰🏆👍🏾
What a nice group of fine young cannibals.
One of the finest voices ever that will never be forgotten!
Him and Axel Rose

Roland gut unic and rare voice. He also sings in different& beautiful way.
26 Dec 2019. I re-discovered FYC. What a band, what a vocalist! And Jimmy S. on the backing vocals. A Christmas gift.

Elvis 😢 this song is one of the best, and look at the guitar player 💪🏻
One of the greatest cover songs of all time.
Yes.👍
Incredible voice its an amazing Tribute to Elvis Presley.
Thank you so much Mr. Roland for your great Song.
What a stunning rendition.Hits the spot.
We love Elvis . U know King of Rock n Roll .
I haven't thought about this song in ages. This is by far the best cover of a Elvis song ever
Keith B have you heard the pet shop boys covering Elvis? That’s fairly good too
@@TheMagickdavid elvis version was a cover
Great song, great band, I really miss them.
Just watched the Elvis music and I enjoy his version, but this version is so much better!
One of the few versions of a classic that is as good, or even better, than its original source.
Haven’t heard this since I was a kid and just stumbled upon it. FYC were an incredible talent!
Fyc so so so underrated. A truly unique and talented group.
This is really very good, isn’t it?
Still listening in 2023.I love Elvis, but this cover is still cooler! 💖
Excellent - especially Jimmy Somerville backing vocals
Great version, great voice. Brilliant band .
80s , Elvis and FYC.
Haven’t heard this since 88. Makes me want to
Listen to Elvis
Roland Gifts gift to the world with the
Fine Young Cannibals...smooth af
My wife heard this on the radio this morning, and couldn't work out whose cover it was, recorded a snippet.. played it back to me and I'm like: FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS. Damn I'm good. 😅 (Unmistakeable vocals helped! I had forgotten about this cover, happy to rediscover it!)
Best ever Elvis cover! Imho
The best of fine young cannibles
I didn't know this was a thing until may 2023. I love it yall omg his voice is so unique
It is definitely unique
listen to Johnny come home, she drives me crazy and have you ever fallen in love
Jimmy Somerville back ground vocals hitting those high notes! Great remake Elvis would be proud!
