  • In this video Ben Eaves explains and demonstrates a hockey skills warm up series used in Finland from their U8 to professional levels. In this video Ben demonstrates 26 skill variations using the same setup. As you will see it is great for all levels because you can make it as simple or complex as you like.
    The main idea behind this is to get players working on basic fundamentals early on in practice. As you repeat these skills in your practices then you can increase the complexity or difficulty level as the players improve.
    Here is a list of the skills demonstrated in this video:
    -Inside edges with puck
    -Outside edges with puck
    -Tight control turns with puck protection
    -Pivoting facing one direction
    -Pivoting facing opposite direction
    -Inside out pivoting
    -Mohawk turns
    -Forehand only puck control
    -Expansion of reach (long reach)
    -Single shift - fake left pull right
    -Single shift - fake right pull left
    -Backhand to forehand puck flip
    -Forehand puck flip
    -Push and pull puck
    -Backward skating - forehand only
    -Backward skating - backhand only
    -Backward skating - cradling and underhandling puck
    -Between legs around tires
    -Scooting 360 degrees around tires
    -Tight turn Russian touch
    -Tight turn Russian touch one hand off stick
    -Backward to forward pivoting figure eights
    -Edgework stickhandle
    -Howie Hips (puck to opposite side of tire)
    -Fake shot - forehand
    -Lateral pull around
    -Mohawk skating and puck protection

    Great series of skills and progression with and without pucks. To minimize players waiting in line and keep them interested, after the last tire we have them skate the puck into the zone for a shot on net each turn.

    This is a top notch teaching tool for coaches to use with young players. My Squirts will be doing this EVERY practice. Thanks for filming this.

      Awsome! Thanks for the feedback. It is amazing how much better the fundamentals get and how much the players progress if you can implement these skills at least once per week throughout the season. I saw a ton of growth on our girls U12 team this year.

    A few of these drills, depending on your players' development level, should be the first 15 minutes of every practice!

    none of that is at game speed so in my opinion it's a waste of time. If you practice at half speed you are going to play at half speed

    • @fabianferrand2943
      @fabianferrand2943 Před 3 lety

      you don't do warm up at the same pace as the game speed. the purpose is to...well...Warm ankles, thighs, wrists and so on.

    • @henkkaaazzz
      @henkkaaazzz Před 3 lety +2

      You need to build musslememory, also this is tutorial for a warmup not a league team training video

    • @ap-dh8md
      @ap-dh8md Před 2 lety +2

      Better to do it slow then till you've got it, then speed it up.
