Kinnikuman is the legendary battle shonen about superhero wrestlers facing against villainous Devils. While originally debut in 1979 as a super hero parody, Kinnikuman manages to become a unique heroic series filled with humor, creativity and of course MANLY FRIENDSHIP!!
the one thing that amazes me is that Kinnikuman is what inspired Hiromu Arakawa creator of Full Metal Alchemist to be a mangaka.

It was big back in the days. The author didn't have to design most of the characters because fans would send him new designs. All he had to do is go through the numerous designs and chose the one he liked.

I'm tired to see people saying that Dragon Ball created the shonen tropes that other shows like kinniku,an did in the 70s, all the martial arts tournament was to get in the bandwagon of kinikuman that was a humongous success in Japan.
So here is my confession: I used to play the nes game, loved it as a kid. And just today I just found out there was an actual manga character about it.
I recently went into the Kinnikuman.I don't regret it one bit.The characters,the comedy,the battles and the high stakes all mixed together to create the modern Shonen genre.It is also one of the few series where you don't need to have a big power level to be strong.
brocken juniors not a nazi, he doesn't seem to hold their ideology , the admittedly headcannoned (not by me) but fairly widely accepted explanation is that he represents post-nazi germany. taking his father's image to honor lineage , but having none of the undesirable philosophy of actual nazis

No, he is a Nazarene one hundred percent. That fan who sent in his design was a legend, and so is the author for running with it. If you can't root for him then that's your problem.

I'm from Catalonia, Spain, and I remember watching this show in catalan dub when I was just a kid and absolutely loving it.
Thank the heavens for this review showing me I didn't have a bad taste. XD
P.S.: If you want to watch something funny, search the catalan intro of "Kinnikuman", or as we call him here, "Musculman" (which basically means "muscleman"). It's the most awesome thing you'll see all week.
I wish there was a way to watch this man
Kinnikuman is just an anhomally to me, i mean SUPPOSSEDLY it is really popular in Japan....yet Kinnikuman Nise (Ultimate Muscle) BOMBED and the anime/manga never came to the states and by default the rest of the world (altough We actually had the anime with little to no censorhip in Latin América, but only 52 episodes). Not to mention that there hasnt been ANY Kinnikuman related products or a REMAKE.
Its so UNDERRATED to the point that i WISH it wasnt one of my all time favourite anime of all time
It did come to the U.S. and it was actually the only reason it was ever finished. (by popular demand in the west North and Latin America) I attribute the anime failing because in Japan because the original audience from the 80s had all grown up and it had been far too long of a gap to continue the story (2 decades) I also always though Kid wasn't as appealing as his dad King Muscle and I think that also had something to do with it. But then again, competetion was FIERCE in the early 2000s for manga/anime: yugioh, bleach, fullmetal alchemist and the heavy Juggernauts like Naruto and Death Note arriving not long after that so it was a mix of things.

Without Kinikuman...there'd be NO POWER LEVELS!!! Hell, many of these characters would kill DBZ characters! Imagine "Frieza..u only have a powerlevel of only 1,500,5000? BAH ! I ROUGE SHOGAN will bench u into SUBMISSION FOR ALL THE GALAXY TO SEE!

I've been wanting a new Kinnikuman anime.
They also invented the muscle docking pro wrestling move. That was later used in an ending for king in one of the Tekken games with him and Craig Marduk doing the muscle docking move.

If Netflix will Reboot Kinnukuman, they wound need to turn it into an Rasslin'/MMA Hybrid.
They may need not to change anything. The new anime will likely be based on the 2011 Kinnikuman manga.
Kinnikuman is basically the prequel to My Little pony Friendship is Magic because of it's theme of friendship.

What I don’t understand is viz media is has localized ultimate muscle manga but has never put it on dvd or blu ray especially the original kinnikuman anime and manga it’s such a underrated battle shonen.

You're welcome. I had no idea that Hokuto No Gun stopped doing the series. I thought they were just focusing on other projects and Kinnikuman would be done slowly.
Just looked, We are slowly getting more subbed episodes, there is new sub of the original series, though it might take a while to get more.

That how it was for me, too. I saw some episodes of Ultimate Muscle on the Foxbox but it never really interested me. Fast forward 10 years later and I'm all into Kinnikuman.

I wouldn't get your hopes too high for further North American releases for this series. I read an interview with Yudetemago online where he stated there were no further plans. I think it was because of Japan's stock market crash.

roughly what % of Ultimate Muscle: The Kinnikuman Legacy & Ultimate Muscle are fighting?
I'm not really sure what you're trying to ask. In Kinnikuman the beginning is comedy then turns into fighting for the rest of the series with multiple characters. So about 95%? In Ultimate Muscle it's about the same so 100%?
Scramble for The Throne wasn't really that bad.It had a great concept but during the middle of Act 2 they screwed it up by introducing The Muscle Prophecy which wasn't needed at all and no one asked for it.Phoenix and his team besides Satan Cross don't embody their theme which is intelligence and they only relied on their abilities and brute force most of the times instead of using their abilities in creative ways.I'm happy in The Ultimate Choujin Tag Arc Phoenix was handled better there as well as In Omega Centauri 6 Spears and in The Choushins Arc along with his teammates.Personally,in this arc instead of making The Princes fight each other I would make Kinnikuman fight all 5 teams in this row:
1)Kinnikuman Vs Mariposa
2)Kinnikuman Vs Big Body
3)Kinnikuman Vs Zebra
4)Kinnikuman Vs Super Phoenix
5)Kinnikuman Vs Soldier
The 5 Evil Gods once they find out Soldier isn't the real Soldierman they plan on making both him and Suguru fight to death by threatening to take Planet Kinniku under their control unless they obey them which forces both teams to follow their orders.This could make huge emotional impact in the story by having Suguru and Ataru fight in the final battle with Ataru being some sort of mentor in their battle to his brother.When Kinnikuman executes the Muscle Spark and has the chance to kill Soldier he refuses which infuriates The 5 Evil Gods and attempt to kill him like Satan tried to do with Aristera only for Ataru to take the blow for Suguru.When they try to make a 2nd attempt the other 100 Gods will step in and stop their assassination attempt and make them acknowledge Suguru as the rightful heir of the throne which they do.Suguru then uses his Face Flash to revive everyone who dies during this arc and I would end it with Suguru being declared as a king.That's how I would write Scramble for The Throne to make it better.I would keep Phoenix's reason for hating Kinnikuman because it would be a crucial key to understand his character.

I was staggered when I found out Ultimate Muscle was a sequel and a story that had already begun decades ago, I first found out about the prequel (this and the manga) when I saw a picture of Metallica in the 80s in Japan on facebook sitting in front of a poster with King Muscle and I was like W T Fucking FUCK

That's from Toriko. I can't recall what chapter it is from memory but it's definitely beyond 100 or 200 chapters given the character Brunch is on that page.

I keep hoping for Discotek Media to release Ultimate Muscle in some format. I definitely want the Japanese version but if I have to, I'll also support the Eng dub release.

Kinnikuman is in my top 5 mangas in general, and I can't get why it didn't get as popular as Dragon Ball. While the writing gets questionable in the last arc, and the beginning was slow, so was Dragon Ball's. Kinnikuman always finds a way to be ridiculous, while also having just the right amount of drama and touching moments to keep you hooked.
TheFloridianGentleman That is a good question. I believe that it's because Kinnikuman makes too many culture references that some west audience wouldn't understand.

+TheFloridianGentleman I think it could mainly be due to Brocken Jr's Nazi aesthetics stopping any potential marketing it had in countries wherein Nazis are entirely taboo in pop culture, such as France and Germany. On top of that, there's the plethora of stereotypes in characters that probably wouldn't go down well when the entire world seems to be getting more and more pc. Finally, there's also Nisei being dubbed by 4Kids, which has also halted OP's popularity in the west compared to other popular Shonen. At least it still remains a big hit in Japan and many Latin countries, with the manga's total sales worldwide being at least equal to those of Rurouni Kenshin.
+Otaku Jidai You are actually right about that. Most of what Kinnikuman is known outside Japan was the M.U.S.C.L.E. figures that sold pretty well. But out of all of these, Brocken's figures were never released, because of the reasons you mentioned. And at the time the anime was released, Nazi Germany was still a sore subject to many people. Also because in the anime he was doing the salute.

Which is your favorite Arc?
Possibly The Dream Tag arc. I really appreciate how the characters have to restore their friendship by the influence of Ashuraman. Plus, the sudden intrusion of the new villains, The Perfect Choujin, really shook these up as the Justice Choujin kept losing to Neptuneman. The stakes were high, almost as much as when the 7 Devil Choujin first appeared. There's also additions like Kamehame & Dr. Bombei which helped both Kinnikuman & Terryman.

You weren't allowed to watch eps if you had any sort of ad block but the site did get carried away with ads. When I first encountered it there wasn't any ads but that soon changed. There should be another site that has Kinnikuman or listed as Muscleman somewhere. Maybe 9 anime?

I only knew about kinnikuman from ultimate muscle on Fox when I was little but I still liked it in its butchered state I wish I actually knew japanese so I didn't have to worry about finding dubs or subs

+Seiya's Bizarre Adventure of the North Star Hokuto no Gun is currently subbing the anime and have done up to around episodes 75-80 iirc. However, they're only available via downloads. As far as watching it online, episode 65 is still the furthest we've got subbed.

Delmance Francis Kissanime streams Kinnikuman but only the first 50 something is subtitled.
Albert Diaz The anime does have differences from the manga but I think manga may be the recommended way especially when the anime hasn't been completely subtitled.

The only official material has been the Ultimate Muscle vols by Viz Media but they're out of print. Unfortunately, the anime hasn't been licensed either so only a few fan subbed episodes exist. I'm hoping Discotek to license the series.

Oda & Shimabukuro did some Kinnikuman sketches in the manga "Memories with Oda San". I really like Oda's designs for his characters & I feel One Piece & Toriko are an extension of Kinnikuman's character molds.
