    Great video. Very straight forward and to the point. I do like the fact that your more recent videos are made at your home with little to no background noise. It helps a lot! Thank you for sharing.

    I have a 2011 ram 3500, the trailer has electric over hydraulic brakes. The trailer brakes have always had a little bit of a delay when brakes are applied. But now when I apply the foot brake, I don't think they're working at all. When I engage the brake controller, they will work to the point of sliding the tires., but they have approximately a 3 second delay before they start to hold! Can you give any advice to whether the problem is the the brake controller, or could it possibly be the actuator? Don't want to just throw money at the problem. I would greatly appreciate your Expert Advice!

    My brake gain is set at 10, but I put a tester on my 7-way pin hop in my truck and apply the brakes... on the tester it reaches 6 for my braking power, but won't go up to 10. Is that a sign that the ITBM is bad?

    Hi, I have a 2012 3500 with a G56. I can't change from "light trailer" to "heavy trailer" in the EVIC. I can select it but it won't change no matter what button combination i hit. I can't get much out of the manual. Does this indicate a problem with the controller or am i just doing something wrong. I set parking brake and everything i can think of but nothing seems to work. I tow many different trailers so i need to resolve it. Cheers,
    Lyle

    Do you have to have it programmed at dealer

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  Před 2 lety

      The feature has to be “enabled” by the dealer. They have to add the sales code on the Chrysler website and then download the new build configuration back to the vehicle

    I have a 2012 RAM 2500 diesel and it came with no brake controller. I am getting ready to purchase a new OEM controller from eBay. I have already checked and the two connectors are there, taped up next to the OBDII connector. Is it just a matter of plugging the brake module in and calling it a day or do I need to go to the dealer and have them perform some magic on the truck's computer? Thanks for all your videos, they are a great help!

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  Před 7 lety +1

      Paul T. Garrett The install is simple enough except for one of the 3 bracket screws. One trick....install the screws first so that the threads get started and then remove them before install. I can say that one screw gets left out because it's almost impossible to install. You will understand what I am saying when you do the install. The dealer will need to change the sales codes and then download it back to the vehicle I order for it to work correctly. Thanks for the question and make sure to subscribe!

    Thank you so much!! I have a 2012 diesel. I keep hearing my controller do intermediate periods of constant clicking. A short time after that my left (drivers side low beam) will quit working. I have replaced the head light switch a couple of times and then it will work for a while and then the same thing will happen again. Does the IBTC brake controller effect the headlights?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  Před 5 lety

      I dont see how it would affect the headlights. I recommend having all the modules scanned for codes to see if any are present. I have only had issues with one brake controller so nothing common on these.

    I installed one of these into my 2010 1500. Previous owner had an aftermarket brake controller at some point as I have screw holes on the knee boaster and the second plug is wired in. I get the ITBC to light up and all that but nothing to the rear plugs. Some say it’s plug n play and others say I need a flash. Dealer even says they’ll have to flash it. Can you confirm if it needs a flash?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  Před 5 lety

      The vehicle needs to be flashed. Flashed is not really the term but close. What needs to happen is the tech at the dealerships needs to go online and add the new sales codes (vehicle DNA) to the VIN on file with Chrysler and then download the new updated build info to the vehicle so that the vehicle now knows what it has and that way everything starts to play well together. Most dealers will charge 0.5hrs to do that which is in the $50.00 price range depending on their hourly shop rate

    Got a 2011 Ram 2500 and the trailer brake switch is not working with error code on the dash after the dash was pulled for evaporator core replacement. The controller is plugged in and fuses are good. I read something about getting it flashed. Any thoughts?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  Před 5 lety +1

      Flashing wont make any difference in my opinion. First thing I would do is hook up a scanner that can access all the modules and see if there is a code present. Simple code readers wont do this. The next think is being that it didnt happen until the dash was pulled.....double check all connections everywhere related to what was disconnected for the evap replacement.

      @@jrf1950 my problem ended up being with the trailer brake wiring and not my controller. A couple of the wires had come loose on the electric brakes and it was effecting my controller.

    Are those connections already there from the factory? Or is there others procedure in order to install for the first time?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  Před 4 lety +1

      The connectors will be there from the factory if you wanting to add the controller. It will require installing a bracket and having the dealer change the sales codes and down load it to the truck in order for it to start working properly. The dealer sells a kit that includes everything. Thanks for asking and for watching.

    I've got an '11 2500 SLT with this same controller. It works but the gain is at 10 and if you manually apply the brake on the controller it locks up the trailer. (5th wheel) . But, by just stepping on the brake pedal with the gain on 10 it will only go up to 3 or so. Truck and trailer brakes are ok. does this indicate an issue with the controller other than it being crap like some people claim? Thanks

    • @tuneman59
      @tuneman59 Před rokem

      Hi, initially I hooked up my Tekonsha Prodigy which worked great but kept coming up on the dash that there was an issue with the oem controller because of being unplugged. I read the many reviews from people with the same problem but I eventually got rid of the truck because of the front end issues. I now have a 2019 Ram and it is way better however, It developed a similar issue. I found that the pin in the 7-pin plug on the truck that controls the brakes was tarnished a bit. I cleaned it off and the situation improved a lot. I would look into that first.

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  Před 4 lety

      I am not fully sure. I would recommend contacting your local dealer and have them check to see if Mopar offers a kit for that year. I may have gotten my years wrong on the one in the video and it might just apply to yours. Personally I like the OEM look and function. Otherwise there nothing wrong with going with an aftermarket version either. It all depends on if your truck has the connectors already present for the module. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe.

    My 2012 dodge Cummins brake controller is not locking my trailer brakes or applying brakes to them . Could it be the controller or a fuse

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  Před 7 lety

      Its hard to say. It requires a special tester to check the output of the module and then also scanning the module to see if any obvious issues. Its not the easiest thing to check and most places/dealers dont have anything to really test it with.

    I have a 2012 ram 2500 and my controller says CF with no trailer hooked up. All wiring is ok. The message comes and goes. If I replace the controller does it need to be programmed by a Dodge dealer?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  Před 7 lety +2

      There is a chance that the controller could be bad. To be certain I would recommend having the modules scanned for codes first to make sure its not something simple. It requires a special scanner that can access all the modules. If you end up replacing it then the new one will not need to be programmed. Just plug and play. Corbin Mcpherson I had the same problem with my 2012 Ram 2500 coming up with “CF” and telling me to service my trailer breaks on my evics messages. All that I had to do is swap out the broken trailer break controller with a working one. No need to go to the dealership.
