- According to my screen time app, I'm on my phone for two and a half hours per day. That equals 38 whole days per year. Disgusting. Time is all we have in life, so to claim my life back from my phone, I, a cyclist, replaced my phone with an Apple Watch Ultra for 30 days to see if it encourages me to use my phone less and use my precious time more wisely. Can the Apple Watch Ultra be a suitable phone replacement for cyclists?

I have been thinking about going watch only to reduce screen time but it feels silly to buy more tech so I can escape tech. Instead I have deleted every app that I would normally use if I take out my phone without thinking :) that worked really well actually.

I use a computer for work, and a Tablet for my music production so I use a Feature Phone - Hammer 5 smart (with minimal internet access, whatsapp etc) it's been so nice not constantly staring at a phone.
Thoroughly enjoy your videos. Of all my bikes I enjoy riding my surly fixed wheel the most. 47 x 17 . Anyway now I see a bass guitar ! Cool. I have a rickenbacker and a Marcus miller .

I've done something similar with just using a Fitbit. It doesn't have cell service, but I've found that using it to swipe away my notifications prevents me from pulling out my phone, swiping the notification, then oh, while I have it out, I'll just check a few things.......20 minutes later..... yeah, what a waste of time.
Also, I can relate to the drugs thing. Never got started, never wanted to get started, but I sometimes feel like I'm the only person on planet earth that ISN'T doing some recreational drug right now. It's offered out quite a bit on my weekly group ride. Some people look at me weird when I turn it down.

I like this idea but my laptop is currently funky so I kind of have to currently rely on my phone more than I would like to do.
But also I’ve been doing Uber eats by bike since like October or something so I have to use it for that haha. If my laptop wasn’t messed up or I could upgrade it that would help me use it less but since it’s kind of unpredictable I bought another iPhone a couple months ago
That has more memory so I can edit my CZcams videos I do them on that phone instead.
Which has been due since it has had the upside of quicker video editing and uploading so that’s nice. But I have gotten into the habit the last year or so of being better about not using my phone if I don’t actually need to use it. So I’m okay with that. I can keep myself busy without either of my phones and laptop. Since I like to be productive and such. So not hard to do whatever that is off screen.

Last year when I got into an accident I was thankful I have a phone,
I left my bike to my friend near the crash area,
and I called myself a Grab Taxi and bring myself, to get hospital then contact my family to bring me my medical card. XD

You don't need a smartphone or mobile data for that, though. But I agree, carrying a mobile phone can be a life saver in emergency situations. Especially as a cyclist.

@cony You only call ambulance if you can't move, if it's really emergency.
I'm still on a condition to move on foot but not in condition to ride, left arm doesn't have any strength, but considering I wasn't on the ground in paid safe to assume I wasn't badly hurt.
XD besides, if I wait for an ambulance it'll take me longer to get the help I need anyway.
And specially in america I don't think people would call ambulance even when they need one because it would cost a lot.

bought a samsung smartwatch so i could use maps, see the time, quick message, change my music. so that i could leave my stupid phone in my bike bag and like you said feel lighter and it works great

Another option is just buy a dumb phone . It will have all the features of a iwatch minus the fit stuff and cheaper while allowing you to talk instead of text .

I've been in way too many traffic accidents that left me hospitalized and my phone was there for me to call relatives, let them know which hospital I was being taken to and so on. I'm terrified of leaving the house on a bike without my phone, getting into another accident and not having a way to call for help.

Zach this was cool but for a little push back, we are in a day and age where not having your phone can be considered irresponsible. Imagine going on a hike, you slip and break your leg. You’re stranded with no phone.
Or what if you’re in a car wreck? Are you calling your insurance company, family, and police all from watch? At a certain point it would be ridiculous and more of an inconvenience.
