Just having an open mind makes a big difference. So many Americans try to fit every song into their categories and go "this is x so I don't like it" or "I don't know what this is so I don't like it". Eurovision is all about hearing something new and just going with it. You don't have to like everything, but you give everything a chance.
It's also 26 new songs in mixed genres in one go (if you only watch finals, usually ~20 if semis). I don't think US has anything comparative to that. All the competitions Americans compare it to are perfoming covers, not originals.

If your VPN lets you choose your country, I would definitely choose the UK and watch it on BBC iPlayer - the BBC always has a very funny comedian doing the commentary: you're still mostly watching the contest, but every few minutes he'll interject with interesting facts and funny comments. The BBC iPlayer website might ask you if you have a "TV Licence", just click yes and it'll let you through.

*Im gonna explain Eurovision for the ones who don’t know much about it* :
The main reason Eurovision is such a big deal is that its performances are incredible. The productions are astonishing, full of over-the-top special effects and the biggest, most expansive stages you have ever seen. Performances can be touching, powerful, feel good, explosive and sometimes laughable (which is also great). It's just really, really fun to watch - and when you combine that with the kind of nationalistic passion usually reserved for example the Olympics, it's pretty easy to get into it. Everyone roots for their favorite win. It really is the Olympics for music. Abba got famous because of winning Eurovision in 1974 representing Sweden. Celine Dion also won Eurovision in 1988 representing Switzerland and found her fame there aswel. Its gotten so big that in 2016 Justin Timberlake performed in the final as an interval act and Madonna performed in the final in 2019.
Eurovision is the biggest live broadcasted television show EVER with over 200 million live viewers every year. It was created in 1956, as an attempt by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to bring Europeans together after the trauma of World War II. During Eurovision, representatives from different countries (in Europe) perform one original song. Some countries have their own competition to choose their entry, some countries have a committee that choses the entry. Some countries send singers/groups that are famous in their country. For example the UK have send boyband Blue in 2011. Because Australia was the non-European country that brought the most viewers to the show. They’ve got a special invitation to the contest in 2015 because that year was the 60th anniversary of the show. Australia still competes, and is the only non-European country that participates together with Israel. The years with the most participating countries were 2008, 2011 and 2017 with 43 countries participating. The contest got so big even betting odds have stocks on who’s gonna win / who is going to end up in the top 10 / who is going to make it trough the final. Fans and press always look at those odds, so some countries are favorites to win and got momentum surrounding them going into the contest. When a country wins, the contest will be held in that country the following year. For example the Netherlands won last Eurovision, so this year the contest is in Rotterdam. The winning country is also automatically qualified for the final the next year. Italy, Spain, France, Germany and the UK are always qualified for the final and don’t have to participate in the semi finals. They are called the Big 5. This is because they are the countries giving the most money for participation to the EBU. When Eurovision first started it really was about just the song. In the modern years the winner also gets decides because of the entire performance. The lights, staging, backdrop, live vocals, story can all bring in to why an entry should win yes or no. That doesn’t mean quality doesn’t win anymore. When a quality entry gets send in, it will be noticed!
The contest is held in may of each year. With Semi-Final 1 on Tuesday, Semi-Final 2 on Thursday and The Grand Final on Saturday. This year those dates are the 18th, 20th and 22nd of May. Two weeks leading up to the live shows, the rehearsals start. Eurovision posts little snippets of those rehearsals exclusively on their youtube channel to build hype and anticipation. Because staging got so important over the years, all eyes are on the rehearsals to see how the songs are staged. Odds always change a little after the first rehearsals because a live performance can change the feeling of a song. On the evenings on the day before the live shows; Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the same exact shows are performed with an audience, and the international juries (from all the participating countries) give points. The televoting takes place during the live shows. In the semi final, only juries from the countries participating in that semi final can give points. And in the grand final all the juries from all the countries participating that year give points. The same goes for the televoting for both the semi finals and the grand final. Only 10 countries from the semi finals can be qualified for the grand final. The Grand Final always consists of 26 countries. 10 from semi final 1, 10 from semi final 2, The Big 5, and the winner (host country) of the previous year thats automatically qualified.
Quality entries you should REALLY check out if you wanna find great songs and performances to get into Eurovision!!! :
    - Sweden 2012 (winner of that year)
    - Bulgaria 2017
    - Denmark 2013 (winner of that year)
    - The Netherlands 2014
    - Cyprus 2018
    - The Netherlands 2019 (winner of that year)

    - Sweden 2018

They also post great updates and news about the contest every year. And finally they got a great overview of the betting odds.
I hope this helped! You really should get into Eurovision so next year so y’all can hop on the hype train when it all starts again. Love your vids ❤️

So Eurovision is a song contest that started all the way back in 1956 and became the longest annual non sports event in the world (excluding 2020 when the contest got cancelled due COVID) and every around 190.200 million viewers tune in to watch the show.. It was created to bring Europe back together after world war 2.
So every country sends in a original song and the winning entry earns the right to host the following contest which in this case is my country the Netherlands. the set up changed since only 8 countries competed in the first edition ans nowadays 39-42 countries compete. The contest is divided in 3 shows. 2 semi finals and a grand final. 10 countries from each semi final will qualify for the final and join the Big 5 (Spain, Germany, France, Italy and the UK) and the host country. without the Big 5 the contest is basically almost impossible to host since they are the biggest financial support and therefor don't compete in the semi finals. The final is usually 26 countries.
The voting of the recent years goes as follow. Each country has a national jury and a televoting. each group has 12, 10, 8-1 points to give to their top 10. after every country has voted the country with th emost points wins.
The 2021 contest will take place on the 18th, 20th and 22nd of May and rehearsals actually started today.
I would love to see you react to more Eurovision videos so I have listed a couple with the links to them!

I feel for the lad and hope he will be able to perform ok. He lost his voice after the Swedish competition and had to do surgery on his vocal chords. I feel there haven’t been enough time for it to heal properly. I’m actually getting nervous for him. This is such a huge thing and to go out on that stage to perform when you’re not 100%? The pressure! I don’t care what place we get. I do hope we get to the final and he’ll be able to perform ok. That is all.

Really happy you like our song from Czechia (a small country in Central Europe).... we decided to take a part in this contest quite late in 2007 but totally failed and it was deserved.... really not good songs at all... and then we left but thankfully our broadcaster decided to come back in 2015 and since then we've been returning with some really good songs - especially in 2018 and to my taste in 2019.... btw. Benny is quite a big star here.... unfortunately most people of Czechia stopped caring about the contest but one day I hope it will get better. I'm literally obsessed with this contest every single year.... like all hardcore fans lol....
Ps: Tix from Norway is my own 2021 year's obsession soo thankful to Norway I've got to know him.... that's exactly what Eurovision should be about.... btw. he wears fur-coat, headband and sunglasses everywhere cause he has a Tourette syndrom that's exactly why his stage name is Tix cause his bullies called him like that. He doesn't care about contest that much (yeah haters of Tix even without final we will support him anyway, got it finally) but about supporting a message that everyone is imperfect and that's totally fine to be different. His song is such a great pleasure.... I have loved it since the first seconds.

You will recognize some of the same artists from this one, some countries gave the same artists another chance this year, since the contest was cancelled in 2020.).
And if you find some you enjoy, take notes and watch the whole performance, these few seconds just show a little.

Roughly, it's a contest that started in 1956 to re-unify Europe after wartimes. Each country sends an original song, every year Spain, France, Italy, Germany and the UK (known as The Big 5) plus the winner of the previous year are automatically in the grand final. The remaining participants of the year then go to the Semi-Finals where 10 from each of the two semifinals go the final. The winner of the contest holds the right to host the contest the following year. It's not only just Europe, Eurasian countries take part such as Israel and Azerbaijan this year, plus Australia also takes part. To take part, countries only need to have an EBU (European Broadcasting Union) license. 50% of the international juries plus 50% of the public voting combined makes the scores for the songs.
Alongside the main contest, each year there's a Junior Eurovision which usually has lesser participating countries but songs in the junior edition must be sang in the native language of the country they represent.
