The Evolution of the Big Baler

  • An interesting comparison between a baler that is over 20 years old and a current generation baler, it is quite interesting how each baler effects the tractor differently, both tractors are around 300hp but the massive flywheel in the Krone smooths out the ram strokes so that the tractor can run smoothly, in contrast the tiny flywheel on the Hesston puts the ram stroke directly pack to the engine on the 7270 resulting in a big grunt and puff of smoke as the engine deals with the sudden extra load.

    That old Hesston is making that JBC bark! But that engine grunt and turbo sounds real mean. That Krone can really eat too. It's amazing how far they have come.

    i will say this is a promo video for krone.. i love my krone i have never had such an easy summer of baling.. you can see the Heston is dribbling straw out the side of the pickup losing valuable product.dont get me wrong heston makes good balers but the Krone is a class all its own. i am still coming over to see you George just need to finish up over here before i go there..

      onelonelyfarmer, could you please keep your viewers under control? Starting to think the only reason you contacted George was to try and poach some of his viewers. I use to follow you, then you went spewing some hate speech about the government and I unfollowed due to it. I followed you again after you contacted George thinking that you may have gotten your channel and mouth under control... apparently not. I'm unfollowing you again. I follow George due to the fact that his channel lacks the toxicity I found in your's, but you brought it here. Serously, people follow George for his videos on farming and not to be bombarded by the BS found in the thread following this post you made.

    Looks like the pickup on the Hesston is missing a fair amount of material. The Krone pickup is massive, doesn't miss anything. If anything, the Hesston may be running too fast on that size windrow, it looks like the material is piling up on the outside.

    When you think about it George in that 20 years its not just the machinery technology thats changed but in a way how the farmer acts/thinks.
    for example today its contractors every were running the biggest machinery they can time is money and all that, back in the days of the Heeston 20+ years ago things were a little more layed back with the farmer normaly doing his own work in the fields.
    and also combine headers were not as large as today so the swaths were a lot less dense as your working with today.
    happy days i wish i could go back to the 80-90's they were golden times for machinery for me.
    top video pal.

Krone made the first Big baler in 1993.... so for 13years Hesston was the King, and still is in my World , because i was a little kid AS i for the frist time Saw the Hesston. And in 2011 Krone came with the higspeed bigbaler and here we Can se the differens in speed. Butt let us see the test,Krone and the New Fendt 1290UD or the New Massey Ferguson2370-that the New generation from Hesston in Kansas.

      the flywheel it's smaller then the krone baler (and all new balers) so every stroke the requirement of torque go up and the engine increase the torque at the pto by increasing the rpm

    • @wantu2much
      @wantu2much Před 7 lety +8

      the Heston baler has a smaller flywheel, so it pushes the engine harder when it stuffs. Compared to the Krone that has a much larger flywheel, that keeps it running at the same rpm easier, but harder to start. You can also go faster with the krone because it is running smoother. It just goes to show how things have changed since they first came out, to now.

    Aye it's DAFT, innit? - driving OVER the large swath. Could never figure out why we, Europeans ( still ;-) ) don't use the Continental High wagon Hitch ABOVE the Pto shaft, for coupling up , or even want to drive OVER the swath - why the Manuf'rs don't make a folding side delivery pickup.
    Could comment upon cutting across the Sowing - across tramlines = not very healthy either; and maybe the Hesston Driveline needs more than just a service: Have seen large Deere Balers running with broken Shearbolt so that the flywheel freewheels on the bearing drag - not so obvious to the unexperienced onlooker.
