    It’s not that the tractor is underpowered. It’s the plunger stroke and it’s an older tractor that has no exhaust after treatment. This is how they should sound. Even with a bigger motor with more power it will still surge with every plunger stroke. She’s working hard but very capable.

      4955 is old. Its all mechanical. Aka slow to react to changing loads. New tractors dont have nearly the amount of surge on every stroke of the plunger. Omg that would drive me nuts listening to that all day.

    • @petarmiletic997
      @petarmiletic997 Před 3 lety

      @@crazyhass84 No, mechanical fuel injection on these older machines is just as fast to react to changing loads as electronics. Modern tractors react the same. But you can't hear it because they have exhaust mufflers. If this one had mufflers and the fuel screw wasn't turned in this much causing smoke... You wouldn't notice it either

      @@petarmiletic997 lmao. Complete bs. I have been engineering diesel engines for 20yrs. My dads 1980s 200hp tractor doesnt react to loads anything like my 2010 200hp tractor. U can tell by how much the rpm drops...
      I can tell by 1000s of hrs of testing.

      Its not nearly enough tractor to run that baler. My Powerstar 117 can keep up with a bigbaler, but I wouldn't go smaller. I'd certainly never put it on my 80hp McCormick, and I trust that far more than this old dying beast. THat thing is killing itself, and that's why it sounds like that.
      Its doing the job, but it ain't gonna do it forever. My dad uses an old 5055 80hp to blow snow, and honestly, it doesn't work as well as my Branson 58hp with my AgriMetal Yukon blower.

      Don´t worry. The engine will last, and then some. The tractor is -almost- local to me. I was told that it is turned up to around 500 hp. That baler is a "high speed" baler. It requires A LOT of power to bale at that speed. Those old 8 liter Deere engine will handle a lot of power if done right.
