  • If you're serious about processing your own meat, you're going to want a good meat grinder. We talk a bit about our experiences with cheap electric models, antique hand grinders, and even the LEM stainless steel manual grinder before we dig into our review of the Big Bite.

This is good to know! I helped a family member with grinding their goat meat, and it was a cheap grinder. It turned the meat into mush, got jammed up, and overheated constantly. I've added this to the wishlist for the items to keep in mind when we're ready for the investments.
Do you have any experience with the grinders attachment for a kitchen aid stand mixer? I'm contemplating getting one of those to start processing meat and see how we feel about it all in general.

I have used a kitchen aid grinder once, and it worked...fine. For small amounts of meat, trimmed well (no silver skin, etc) it will do just fine. But anything more gets difficult. I think if you can find one for cheap it would be worth it to get started with grinding your own meat (you won't want to go back, it's so much better and there's no mystery about what got mixed in...) before the big ticket purchase of a grinder.
