Dog is FOCUSED 😂
Beautiful dog
I just bought the LEM #12 today and ground up some raw dog food. The grinder went through chicken drumsticks without any problems what so ever. Use the disc with the larger of the holes first (which this video was doing) and then if you feel it’s necessary (we did, small 10# dog) do a second grinding with the small hole disk. The finished consistency was like a very fine hamburger, no danger from the bones at all even to a small dog.
P.S. There is a disc with three very large slots, that’s for packing sausage in tubes I believe. So do your first meat grind with the disc that has the 10mm holes.
I'm hoping to make my own powered grinder for mostly chicken. Just need to find a really heavy weight grinder.
That sausage attachment is actually a cool thing for making portion control and freezing. You either have to have small containers to freeze in, as one large one will need to 'chip' it out/off. Just get natural casings and either make franks or cut links to size before freezing.
Nice!
Can you share what brand of clever you have and where you purchased it? Ty😁
My mom worked for a vet and the reason chicken bones cannot be fed after cooking is they splinter and thus are pointy and sharp and can get stuck in the digestive tract. I can't tell if, after grinding these bones in the grinder, that they would be able to splinter. But I do wonder how ground up they are , it's hard to tell by watching the video.
My Alaskan Malamute eats whole raw chickens unground, and on a bad day sometimes will catch a live chicken to try to eat. No intestinal issues ever
As long as you don't go cooking this, the bones are easily disolved/absorbed in the intestines. Pretty easily verified with a simple google search.
As a puppy this would work great but for an adults teeth, you should REALLY let them break up the bone by themselves. It will keep the bone in their jaws strong from the pressure (think of an MMA fighter kicking things a lot to strengthen their tibia from microcracks healing.... Similar process) and keep their teeth clean and white which keeps plaque away which will avoid organ damage from that.
And while most dogs will be fine with chicken/fowl, there will still be some who will chip and break teeth. And for those of us with older dogs, even more chance of that happening.
Modern dogs have no need for super-human biting pressure as their needs are met by their humans. Having 600 ft/lbs vs 800 ft/lbs biting pressure for out pampered pets is not going to affect them in the least. Not loosing teeth prematurely is a big positive.
@tankforwin : Can we use it to grind chicken feet ?
@ All: Is freezing required?
Pls share your comments on this!
If you wanted a fine grind, would you just put on a smaller plate and run it through again? And do you add water?
Can I do the naturemade fish oil instead of the dog branded fish oils?
We’re going to buy this grinder so we can start making raw food for our dogs so thank you very much for this video, it helps a lot but I need to also buy a meat cleaver. What brand and model meat cleaver are you using?
LEM Products 17801 Big Bite #12 .75HP Stainless Steel Electric Meat Grinder
@@tankforwin , I just ordered the LEM #12 Big Bite but I also need a good meat cleaver to cut chicken bones. Which meat cleaver are you using in the video? Thanks!
@@Eastwoodgal I am using a generic one from an Asian store. Most Chinese stores have them Ranch 99 or similar on Amazon. Buy a heavy one and sharpen with whetstone.
@@tankforwin , thank you!
I ahve the Lem #12. I have 40 lbs chicken wings to grind. Did you use #10 grind plate for your video?
I would like to know the same thing, When i Called LEM they said use #10 Plate, but i would like to know real world.
Hi does it have to be raw feed ? Or once it chicken bone grind can i cook homemade dog food?
don't cook it with chicken bone, can hurt your dog, make sure poultry bones remain uncooked if feeding your pets this way.
What brand and model is that grinder?
Brand: LEM #12 Big Bite Meat Grinder 0.75 HP
where do you buy the chicken? also I asume you freeze it in portions?
I do gordon food service 40lbs chicken quarters for 25.99. Currently may 2024
What brand and model of grinder?
I use to feed my dog chicken but I would remove the skin, fat and bones
Do you grind any vegetables with the meat? My dog hates ground meat with vegetables, but I want it to eat vegetables too. How do you give veggies to your dog?
They don't need vegetables. Dogs are carnivores.
Just like the other reply said. Plus so are humans all those "fruits" and "vegetables" found in the supermarket or grown never existed in nature. They are man made cultivars at best. The food pyramid is a total lie and most "nutritionist" just repeat the garbage they read somewhere in a book.
If you want to incorporate veggies, try some spinach and sweet potatoes. Our puppies go after goose poop and cow patties like they are a delicacy! BLAH!! However, that tells me there is something the dog instinctively knows it needs and it will seek that out to eat. That being said, I think dogs do need some green matter even if the are designed to eat meat. We mix some roasted sweet potatoes in with the ground raw chicken and beef liver along with some wilted spinach. Blueberries and raw eggs are great too.
@@lynneanne73 Spinach contains some of the most high concentrations of oxalates which not only bind to minerals and prevent their absorption but due to their crystalline structure are similar to microscopic needles. If fed regularly they accumulate in the body especially in the urinary tract system and joints causing kidney stones and gout. If you dogs seek the cow patties its because the alfalfa/hay they eat is essentially a form of sugar. Put a small cow patty slice next to a sugar cookie and see which they prefer.
Please look into RMF for feeding. Game changer.
What else do you feed with the raw diet?
My mix is chicken quarters, liver (beef or chicken), chicken gizzards/hearts, broccoli, and chickpea as filler. Liver and the organs you can usually get from and supermarket very cheap.
You can add a little bit of turmeric too. the liver and organs you only need about 5% of the mix, so not alot.
Don't add any sort of peas. Look up FDA/Golden Retriever data of peas potatoes legumes causing enlarged heart/early death. IIRC, most recent data seems to suggest the grain-free dog foods which added pea protein as the primary culprit.
My Sheltie loves his 1/2 cup of shredded BJ's "Normandy' mixed broccoli, carrot, etc with each meal.
Its a great 'fullness' bulk extender, he loves the taste, and even with a short GI tract canines can get a decent amount of vitamins/phyto-nutrients if you grind it fine in a food processor.
He's 12 1/2 and no graying muzzle and vet says great shape for age.
i just trow like that FROZEN let them work on their food Move their jaws.. Specially your dog he has bigger grinder machine on his mouth 😀
Agreed. I just leave it as is.
How many chicken quarters do you give them a day? For a 80 pound dog
Hopefully you're supplementing that because just the raw meat itself, although great, isn't enough. Dr Karen Becker has supplements along with raw food recipes on her website.
yeah young doggies can eat that shit frozen, but when they get to 8y+ their teeth are more likely to break
I have a gulper and can't feed whole bones
No no no dude
?
