- Someone asked me for some advice on how to hold traditional grip and I recorded this video and sent it to them. This was a few months ago and wasn’t ever intended for CZcams or a broader audience but after rewatching it, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to share it. Sorry if the pacing feels weird, and if I can clear anything up, please let me know!

Ok cool, I got it! Now, let's all play some rolls and paradiddles together!
My percussion instructor describes it as if you are picking up a cup of tea and just putting the stick in place while holding that form. As for the motion, it's the same as turning a door knob.
What sticks does LSU’s snare line use? Great video, was really helpful for me because I’m trying to improve my trad grip
Jackson Rigney it’s changed every year, we’ve used Ralph Hardimans and we’ve used Mike Jackson’s since I’ve been here
Nice my school uses Roger Carter’s and M- Dawgs for tenors. We have used hardimons and jackson’s in the past I believe.
Jackson Rigney I think we’ve also used both roger carters and M dawgs too, lol
Are you on the LSU Drumline?
Mark Porter just a fan
Do you know jack steele on the lsu cymbal line
Milo Johnson Yeah, he’s awesome!
Hey am I supposed to take my middle and index off when going for a full stroke or any kind of stroke??
No, try to keep contact with the stick at all times. Be careful not to squeeze the stick to try and keep your fingers on. Make sure you can feel the stick vibrate
Cameron Robillard so I keep them on but just relaxed?
Isaac H yes! I try to imagine holding a raw egg in my hand, and the goal is to not crack it while playing. That imagery usually helps me stay relaxed
Cameron Robillard ok thank you. Do you have an email that I could email you for questions? My drum teacher doesn’t know how to do it.
Is this the technique for stars?
Athan Troquille It’s kind of a mix of Stars technique and things I’ve developed on my own. If you follow this, you’ll probably do well at stars. Obviously it isn’t exact, but it’s a good starting place
