The other thing you guys should be aware of is that Sly trapped in Egypt was more than just sequel baiting, it was also a means to fix Penelope as well.
They mentioned how limited Bentley’s options were when he stated that he couldn’t find him even after using “all his technology.” When you make a scene look desperate it’s mainly to justify a desperate measure, like recruiting a traitor, especially one that not only created the time machine that sent him there but also one that shared a romantic relationship with Bentley. Since Penelope was a love interest and playable character in the previous games, they needed to give Penelope a way to come back and getting Sly out of Egypt seems to be what sanzaru had in mind.
I do hope in the future there needs to be a sequel for the ending of this game.
It's been at least 10 long years, I thought Sony Playstation could have some love for one of their game mascots of the company.

sly was my 1st game ever i used to spend my summer holidays at my cousin's house playing it in the ps2, it hurts a lot seeing such a masterpiece and nostalgic title being abandoned like this

It would be cool if the reboot focused on the same story with Sly trying to reclaim his book from the Fiendish Five but with big open world areas, unique missions & of course - new graphics like how Sly 4’s is or even better.

To be honest, I don't see them resolving this cliffhanger. We've been stuck with this ending since 2013. Sony has refused to greenlight a Sly 5 during the 2010s. I'm assuming due to it not selling well. Despite fan demand, people badly wanting to continue the story of Sly escaping Egypt, Sony never announced a continuation and I've just given up on a fifth game ever happening. I feel the only way for Sly to come back, is to do what Crash did. Make a new fourth game in a new continuity. To revive interest in the series again.

I mean think about it folks both of them originally were going to have a continuation to their stories but both of them are cancelled and are doomed to be stuck where they are (Sly Cooper is stuck in ancient Egypt and Megaman Volnutt is stuck on the moon) for years and years

I'd probably see the franchise follow Crash Bandicoot's lead with the original trilogy getting remakes for the PS5 first, followed by a sequel that completely ignores Thieves in Time. Basically, a soft-reboot that retains Sucker Punch's trilogy as canon.
It might be possible for them to rewrite the cliff hanger but even if sly is in the future, there would be old damages to things like the anubis statue head. And as for Sly playing Solo without Bentley and Murray, it'll be like sly one except for the racing and shooting levels.

There was some design animations for a Sly Cooper fangame centering around Sly's son and his capers while being chased by his sister. I forgot the name of it but it was interesting.

I'm really surprised and amazed with this concept you came up with.
It has been 10 years so, at this point I can see fitting the ending to be rewritten to fit as a new episode or even sequel if we go further (or like we always were asking for).
Normally I would agree to not touch anything and just continue from what they left it to respect and take it from there, but I've learned that sometimes the story must change to make space for a better one (maybe even decanonize but here that's not the case).
Really like the idea of Bentley, Murray and Carmelita ending in the Ancient Egypt when Sly ended up in the Future Egypt, that would be a cool plottwist, and that Sly just see himself in that timeline forming a family with Carmelita, probably what he wishes the most.
Also, that Clockwerk's origin is simply shocking. Truly would be a great revelation for later in the game.
Overall, I agree with this scenario, rescue the Egypt ending and turn it into a full episode to continue with its own twists and turns for all the team.
I hope they bring Sly back, his story hasn't ended yet and he deserves a proper ending, or even a worthy continuation.

Here's an idea to add to the "Clockwerk from the future" idea. What if also the entire reason Clockwerk waited to end the Cooper line until Sly was born, was to get revenge on Sly for sending him to the past (or something like that).
Now for the idea to not play as Sly for an entire episode, I don't think this is a good idea. At least you should be able to switch between them somehow. Or maybe Sly is stuck in the future and needs help from future Bentley and Murray to get back to his time. Maybe the entire game could revolve around this.

I’d also be interested in seeing how the gameplay fairs as well. One feature that I’d appreciate is the ability to play as the villains in each episode. That would be pretty cool but of course, there’s so much more…

Honestly I would love both keep the Sly 4 plot aka time traveling ancestors and getting Sly back while also give your suggestions some thought that way we also could get 1 of the big questions answered how ecxacly Clockwerk turn into robotick bird how he was able to stay alive literally forever and what made him hate Cooper clan in the first place while also we could see what Sly's family linea future looks like

The cliffhanger ending always had me guessing that Sly is indeed the original Slytunkhamen that started it all. It can't be a coincidence that he's the only ancestor with "Sly" in the name. As for Clockwerk, I wondered after Thieves in Time if Penelope had anything to do with it. She's the only other character who knows how to build a time machine, she specialises in robotics and she (sadly) has it in for Sly big time. Maybe she tracks him down first? But I just want a follow up to put me out of my misery. Confirm my suspisions, dash my hope and dreams, do SOMETHING.
I can give you one. No she wasn’t involved in making clockwerk. Clockwerk was already in the thieveus raccoonus before it was starting to lose its pages due to time traveling. If she did go back to make clockwerk the book would have been altered to include it and alert Bentley and if it was one of those meant to be because of time traveling the book wouldn’t have starting missing pages to begin with. People wanted to give Penelope and clockwerk a connection because it sounds interesting but there are too many plot holes to fill.

@@TotallyToonsTV plus just because Penelope created a time machine doesn’t actually mean she’s connected to Clockwerk. Clockwerk could easily be just another rival thief that stole a time machine just like how toothpick stole the cooper gangs time van.
It is a good alternate idea, but I still prefer the "Sly in Ancient Egypt" idea. I feel like it would be more fun seeing Sly interacting with Slytunkhamen while Bentley and the others work on bringing Sly back to the present while dealing with Penelope along the way.
Maybe there could be a level where after reuniting with Sly and heading back to the present, an accident sends Sly and the others to a possible future where things are bad because they never returned to the present and they fight a Clockwerk replica made by someone who hates the Cooper clan because of course there would be. The gang defeats it while traveling back to the present and cause the Clockwerk replica to go back to the prehistoric level from Sly 4 where we learn it would be destroyed by natural means. That last part leaves an opening for my own idea about Clockwerk's origins while also adding a bit more to it now.
Sly interacting with Slytunkhamen is always interesting to keep in mind!
@@VtnVivi Yeah imagine Sly helping Slytunkhamen and his ancestor's gang (one of which would be revealed near the end of the game to be the man that would eventually become Clockwerk) on some heist where he gives his ancestor some tips on being a master thief, not much that makes Sly the one who started the Cooper clan's legacy but in a career counselors kind of way as he pointed Slytunkhamen in the right direction of his family's destiny.
This is a total reenvisioning I have never thought of before. I've always been stuck on believing that a hypothetical fifth game would see Sly in ancient Egypt because that's a time when his ancestor, Slytunkhamen (and also one of Le Paradox's ancestors) was around. Since Le Paradox was the one who tried to send Sly and Carmelita through the time loop, I assumed it had something to do with his own lineage, which seems to reflect Sly's lineage because like Sly, Le Paradox is known to have had ancestors from Egypt and Japan. He also appears to have an ancestor from Rome, likely a gladiator, which seems to contrast a bit with Sly having a knight ancestor from England. I don't know much about Le Paradox's intentions regarding sending them through the time loop, though, so that's totally open to speculation.
When you bring up the future concept, it changes something. And involving Clockwerk really makes me rethink everything. That actually makes a lot more sense than my old theory about how he was metal in caveman times. You may remember that I theorized he got himself struck by lightning, then landed in a pool or geyser filled with hot, liquid metal, fully mechanizing him. That theory was definitely full of holes and could have easily spelled his death. If Clockwerk originated from the future, though, then it would make way more sense how he replaced his organic body parts with robotic ones, and time traveling makes it hold together much better. Clockwerk aside, the modern or future Egypt part is something I never could have considered, and you're right; we can only imagine how Bentley, Murray, and Carmelita's side of the story would go.
this could happen and sly might try to stop clockwerk and if he did try to stop him that mean this would all not happen able he might be able to see his dad aging
Sly really needs to come back as he's the most unique stylized character around.
Everybody is either a teenager or a young kid. But Sly isn't just a young adult but an active young adult who pursues Carmelita not as just some girlfriend but an actual partner and wife.
He's the only one who goes through these things. The closest I can think of is Jack from Jack & Daxter and he's still more of a late teen.
They could have it so Clockwork came from the past and somehow got to the time machine of either Sly by the backseat or in Le Paradox's since it's so big and traveled to the present, developing those owls to prowl the past with his own copy of the machine. Then eliminating them each as time passed.
It would've been interesting if he hitched on Le Paradox, used it to get to the future or modify himself in the present. Then hunting the Coopers from past and up, while having those smaller owls to prowl and watch to see Le Paradox's own travel through time.
Cause he's seeing all of this happening to the Coopers and everyone else being conquered suddenly by time travelers along with Sly Cooper meddling from the future.
And it would be easy to predict Clockwork's hatred of Cooper would go to Paradox with him doing similar things and also the classic: If anyone's gonna kill him it's gonna be me.
Cause it's pretty hard to swallow a pre historic owl somehow surviving long enough by hatred to build himself robot parts. He built them gradually so where did he get the metal in the stone age? Did he invent that?
You're right that him coming from the future is the best theory or a present time.
Of course it is most likely that the Clockwerk we saw in the Stone Age was mainly an Easter egg for us the players to enjoy finding, as well as an oversight by sanzaru. For instance in the contessas wolf crypt in sly 2, when you use the binocucom in a certain spot in the crypt you will see Suckerpunches previous game character Rocket from Rocket the robot on wheels.
Great video Vivi!! I enjoyed listening to your take on a possible storyline for a future Sly Cooper game. Just like you, I am also hopeful for Sly’s return. It would be cool to see him be in future Egypt and see how the plot unfolds with a Clockwork tied in. It would be interesting to gain more insight on his origin and motives. Hope this would be explored in a future title 🤞🏼
Although, it’s been already 10 years since Thieves in Time, Sly deserves to have at least one more game. It saddens me to see the series end on a harsh cliff hanger. I wish Sly wasn’t stranded in Egypt and it’s sucks to see that this episode was scripted, but not green lit by Sony. As a huge fan, Sly deserves to have a happy ending. I hope we get to see Sly reunite with the gang and find closure. The community and fan base will always root for our beloved Master Thief Raccoon 🦝
There’s so much nostalgia playing the games and I think back to the amazing experiences I had with Sly and the gang. I will always remember the fond memories of playing the games with a smile. Looking forward to more discussions on the Sly Cooper! Keep up the great work Vivi 👏🏼

Sly (and the player) would have to make a choice:
1.) Save his parents from being killed by the Fiendish Five (thus saying goodbye to Bentley and Murray... forever).
2.) Watch Sly's canon event fold out in front of him.

If we rework Clockwork being from the future, likely a Scientist who was meddling in cybernetics, which then finds out Sly, either himself or his descendent has been stealing his work, possibly frame said cybernetic scientist of crimes, or stopping him from his life's work, a "power chip" that can provide unlimited power to any machine, which then becomes the Hate Chip, and this scientist's origins.
At the climax, having Future Cooper gang attempting yo return Sly back in time, Clockwork strikes, and thus a SECOND time mishaps happen, one where the results are, Sly is back in his right time and Clockwork being send way back in time.
A possibility, of course.
If it were the gang who went back in time accompanying the Sly went to the future story beat, they would likely first see to Slytenkhamen, a hit or miss, since thievery was punished just as severely, and thus the Cooper who starts the Thevious Racoonus will be less likely to share or reveal himself.
But ultimately, the gang dpes gat back in time, as the Future Time Machine mishap from Sly's side, causes a ripple throughout time, which Bently 'could' theoretically scan and send then back home.
And either that would be the 'end' of the series, or... just a new heist, one where Sly, the Gamg and possibly a lot of Ancestors and Descendants soon meet to try and fix the now broken time flux. Ah, but that will be a lot of work.
We'll see with and when the series does get back into the game.
They could end the series with an open ending. Would give the choice to either continue or let it go for future developer.
I really hope that IF we get the end of Sly's story, they don't make it sad. Like for example the plot about Sly trying to leave tracks for his friends to protect the past or can't do anything or it would change Sly ever meeting Bentley and Murray. (if he were in the future egypt)
The ending should be something good, not tragic.

Wow what a great concept! That explains a whole great deal of alot, like content they could explore IF the series were ever picked up. I like that you mentioned Clockwork cause it would be like the boss of all bosses to fight OG clockwork, and maybe he gets damaged and has to mend with robot parts and is sent back in time by Sly or the gang trying to get him out of whenever he is in. Also, never seen footage of clockwork in the 10,000 BC episode, I think you really stumbled apon something. If you get the money to buy our the rights/IP to Sly and continue production, I highly suggest exploring this concept, I like the idea of the game set in the future and Clockwork's origins being more completely explored.
Remember when Bentley noticed something wrong with the thievius racoonus in the beginning of sly 4. That happened because of the Le paradox was messing up the time line. What if sly messes with the time line and Bentley notices slytunkhamens page is a little off. Sly probably puts a message in that says Bentley help.

I’d much rather stick with the original Sanzaru plot warts and all. It will give players another game to interact with the rest of Sly’s ancestors starting with Slytankhamun.

clockwork as a Egyptian villain [you know, bird of Ra... the sun, a way to tell time? and the fact that clockwork is a bird{I know, an owl, but seriously.. is it too far to think he could do that, or that he might be more akin to Thoth from Egyptian myth}] and the reason for revenge is that he sees that there are two coopers, one spills the details or he finds out who sly is... and when... might be interesting.

I do believe clockwerk might not turn like steel on the beggining but with wood mechanics from his time and everytime tecnology made a jump, he would upgrade himself

I’m gonna be completely honest, I don’t see any possible sly cooper game being a sequel to this one, I say this solely because of the writing specifically being such a drastic decline in quality it actually gets worst the more I look back on it. I think the best possible outcome for a sequel is a complete redo ala Toys for bob sequel akin to crash 4. Look call me pessimistic or cynical but while thieves in time offered ideas that I do think could work the execution was either not interesting bad or just insulting to say the least
Also cuz I forgot to bring it up, but with it being a time travel story it’s shocking that almost nothing happens to Sly in the game, he just wants to commit a heist and then Bentley shows up and is the one who lets him know something’s wrong with his bloodline.
Like a standalone Sly 5? Something like Rift Apart? Re-write the cliffhanger at least and take it into a new direction going forward.
@@VtnVivi I don’t remember much of rift apart since I only watched a game movie of it since I bought an Xbox but yeah I think you’ve got the idea of what I mean. Just replaying the og trilogy then just glancing at 4 just irritates me beyond reason with its writing the most.
Could even have the game start off with a mystery like Sly 2 where we’re in the middle of something and we have to play through a prologue to figure things out

I've been curious to see how a new team of developers would take a crack at the continuation of Sly being stuck in Egypt. With what you spoken VTNVIVI a new team can definitely take in any approach they would want to with what the secret ending to Thieves in Time left off with. As I feel like a fifth Sly game that has you swapping back to an era with just Sly in it and then swapping to an era with Carmelita, Bentley, and Murray would make for interesting game play especially with how the story would progress with Sly not being with his gang.

Regardless what path is taken the hole main cast had such good cemetery and cohesiveness it would be difficult to not have them in a new game… especially Carmelita fox💕 as her byplay and relationship with sly really cemented the games for me. as their relationship for me, added much more depth and charisma to the games. If their is a new game 🤔 i look forward to it so long as the relationship between Sly and Carmelita is still their.

The biggest mistake Suckerpunch was to do was to give the franchise to a company who'll put a cliffhanger in their first entry game and leave it in the dust

I think that would be a really interesting take on things with a Future Egypt twist, however another issue the gang might have to solve is how they’d actually go into the future, their time machine has only been able to travel to the past using an artefact from that respective time period, how would they travel to the future if the artefact they need doesn’t exist yet? Unless of course they have to find a way to modify the time machine to remove this restriction? 🤔
Good point for sure! Bentley would have to figure how to update his time machine! Let's not forget Le Paradox's blimp didn't require an object :)
That’s true the gang’s time machine essentially served as a prototype for the 2.0 version on the blimp, perhaps it would be an interesting plot line for the gang to track down Penelope to retrieve the 2.0 blueprints and the writers could kill two birds with one stone by giving Penelope more fleshed out character development and bring some closure on the Penelope villain arc 🤔

I can say how would sly be in the future. We have Penelope made the cooper time machine maybe that is a prototype but paradox had state of art new model. It doesn't need anything from an era just punch coordinates and there but what about clockwerk he had to have a time machine unless he is the time machine he made himself a timeless bird he could've seen his defeats and end up winning but then he'll ruin his timeline altering his time but sly would still defeat him it's like back to the future 2 all real to clockwerk but same to sly
I play tested thieves in time twice, first when only the japanese time period was done and the play test ended with el jefe and later in the summer of 2012 when the game was about 95% finished and i got to play through the whole game. I was one of about 10 kids who play tested so im not sure if anyone else has talked about the play test. The ending of theives in time was changed completely, i bought the game at target once it finally released because i enjoyed my play test so much. The original ending was a bigger cliff hanger that heavily implied there was more to come, i thought a sequel but dlc could also be the case. I'm not sure where exactlty would be best to share this info and my experience with play testing thieves in time but i would definitely would love to share all that i know about the cut pre-release content!
It's been a while since I've fully played Thieves in Time, but was how the time machine work was that it needed a something like an object/artifact in order to travel in time for example the Japanese sword/knife that was from ancient Japan (around the time of his ancestor from that era) So if he was transported into the future, who was able to get an object/artifact from the future? In the game, it makes it looks like that the time machine can only travel to the past. I think an interesting idea would've been Sly leaves a message in his family book show where he is (if it was indeed ancient Egypt). Wasn't it his ancestor in ancient Egypt who first wrote the book? Just brainstorming.

I've actually been thinking about the "Sly winds up in present day Egypt" scenario for a little bit now. But if I remember correctly, I think Sly 4's ending mentioned that it's been months since Sly's disappearance (could be getting mixed up with Sly 3's ending, not sure). So if that was the case...I'd think he would've found his way back soon enough.
Then again, the Ancient or Future possibilities I personally find to be more likely. And given whatever hijinks come into play, I think it could go pretty well. Especially if we get an explanation about the mystery surrounding Clockwerk. Like, if he was organic & then turned robotic in teh future, before going to the past. Then how or who managed to know how Clockwerk made the transition?
Every possibility leads to more questions, and I'm SO looking forward to getting some answers...eventually.
The ''months'' thing is from Sly 3 I believe. Sly 4 had the gang mention ''days turning into weeks''. Then again, you make a great point. If say Sly was in present day Egypt for 2 weeks, why didn't he contact the gang? Is he being held? Does he not want to be found? What would justify his absence?

Okay, I’ll say a few things, but I’m going to be referencing a Fanfic first, then my own ideas.
Fanfic: Sly alone wasn’t sent back in time, but was sent with the gang and Le Paradox as well as an ally of Le Paradox. They also fixed the Penelope issue by having the ally hold Bently hostage and put him in a Box situation. The one with the Cat box situation. And ends up rejoining the group during after the Medieval era, and Sly and Carmalita are on better terms to the point of being engaged. Changes out of the way, the group ends up in Ancient Egypt, where the enemy ally killed the ancestor of Slytankahman I, so a Time God has kept them in history to deal with Le Paradox’s ally who got an accidental power up…God Class type, and now they NEED to kill the enemy after stealing a few metals to make the weapons. Obviously they kill them but the issue of needing a key member of history is fixed by Sly and Carmalita giving up their first child to fix history. And that’s it for the Fanfic…
My Own Thoughts: I think a good idea would be to keep Sly in the past but like Crack in Time, Split the group up as the gang and Carmalita try and both fix the Time Machine, and find an item that’ll send them to the right time, while Sly becomes Slytankahman I but gets picked up after having an heir. Sly becomes his own beginning? Obviously it could be hinted by cutscenes and off screen stuff, but I do think that would be kinda interesting.

Fun fact, in the fanfic: Le Paradox’s plan only changes a bit because of Penelope and his ally that kills him…the change, Le Paradox now targets the Cooper line, as the ancestors found love. For example it’s said in the fix that there’s actually 41 thieves, the 41st being the wife of Sly’s ancestor.

Imagine Sly defeats a thief that is an owl in the present. Who uses Penelope's knowledge of cyborgs and time machines to first transform him into a metal owl then travel to the past to kill Sly relatives before he is even born.
Or the mini Clockwerks could be each carrying a hate chip containing a portion of Clockwerk's soul as an insurance policy incase the main body was destroyed.
Something surely would justify the lengths Clockwerk has gone through! Just what was it really? Simple jealousy? Writers can dive deeper.
A better idea would be that Sly wasn't sent to the Past, the Future, or even the Modern-Day Egypt, but rather, an alternate timeline of Egypt.
They go to the past, where Sly is supposed to be, but he isn't there. He writes that he can see him or something, but they don't meet. And eventually, they have to find out what timeline Sly is actually in so they can save him
It would make for an interesting storyline, seeing as how a Time Machine would have to be reconfigured to traverse Alternate timelines as well as it's own, original timeline.
Traumatize Sly with a bunch of possible ways he could've died, give us a Raccoon Clockwerk, all sorts of stuff. We could call it an alternate dimension (or reality, for those who like the technical terms better,) Have the gang meet alternate versions of themselves, with and without Sly, even see some conceptual versions of themselves as an easter egg that could technically be canon.
Hey, maybe with the right connections, we could even get a Playstation exclusive Spyro, Ratchet and Clank, or Jak and Daxter reference, or even one of their old levels as a playable location... with some mild alterations done to it, of course.
Realistically, it could be any of their franchises, but this is the best option they have to start building an interconnected multiverse without making another Playstation All Star Heroes

Well in "Thieves in Time" the Gang has to find objects from the Time Period to travel to said period so going forwards in time makes little to no sense. Unless they just hand-wave that aspect entirely.
Good observation! This could be an interesting way to spice things up and let's not forget how Le Paradox's time machine worked, it didn't require an object.
@@VtnVivi I totally forgot about Le Paradox's time machine not following the same rules, I'm actually replaying the series right now, I just reached Jean Bison in Sly 2.
@@VtnVivi but given how LeParadox was an art dealer and that art was used as a means to describe the style and taste of that particular time period, it could be a simple matter of already acquiring all the data his time machine needs in order to go back with just a push of a button.
What do we as a community actually have to do to get something going or in the works for a new sly story? I need answers man, at this point im willing to email, call and do whatever it takes. I'm nor entirely sure about the size of the sly community and how big its following still is. But I believe is deserves a fair chance and atleast a way to meisure possible sales if a new game were to release.

Even though I was the biggest fan of Sly. I will admit one thing got me curious about Sly 4 scrapped ideas and concepts mostly. Was it a scrapped idea at point to take on La Paradox's ancestors as well? That would've been kind of cool imo.

Frankly I feel the same way about the "A Hat In Time" series. Due to several problems not being solved. Especially in Subcon Forest and Subcon Kingdom. If you know what I mean?

I hope if they do announce a new Sly Cooper game that it continues from Thieves in Time but I can see them rewriting the Sly Cooper storyline from the first game. One thing I do want to see from PlayStation I a remake of the Sly Cooper games with better graphics and animation like they did with the Crash series.
Sly 1 reboot would be cool! Rebuild the game from ground-up while also applying the formula of later entries! They could keep the story premise the same as to make it fit.

If I were to be the CEO of PlayStation, I would bring back old IPs including Sly Cooper. If I were to handle the Sly Cooper Movie and TV Show as a director and visual art director, I would use the Sonic Movies as Inspiration for the character design and add all my ideas for making those Sly Cooper Projects and also use the Spider-Verse Animation Style. If I were to make a Future Sly Cooper Game, I would use the Sonic Frontiers and Spider-Man Open World Formula.
