- "Lies", by American rock band The Knickerbockers from Bergenfield, New Jersey in 1965, reached the #20 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It is their best remembered Beatles sound-alike hit single. It not only fooled fans, but it earned The Knickerbockers placement in the Beatles Hall of Fake. The band, which took its colonial-evoking name from Knickerbocker Avenue, Bergenfield's main drag, initially based its sound on an R&B/dance formula. However, It was their brand of Beatles style that earned them top-20 hits in early 1964, and 1965. When writing the song, they took the first two chords of the Beatles "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and added the word "Lies". The Knickerbockers competed with another Beatles-sounding group called the Redcoats that patrolled the southern tip of the Garden State.

Very cool tune. One of the most Beatles sound-a-like songs ever recorded.
They really did sound like the early Beatles to me.🙂

The best! I'm so glad I was born in 1954 and grew up on the best music in the world.
Im 73 yrs old and i play all my 60s 70s in my car and its high and everyone looks at me while im signing along whith the song at least i can not like today's music if you call it that 🎶
Released in Oct of 65, everyone thought it was the Beatles I remember driving back to school after Thanksgiving and it was played over and over and over. Got stuck in a blizzard outside of Erie Penn, they kept on playing this, DJ thought it was the Fab Four Trump was in Erie a few days ago, this could have been his theme song!!!
Yeah, they fooled everybody for a long while. I'm on the downhill side of 71 and sometimes I still forget they are not the Fab Four.
Thanks.
Proof that the Beatles sound can be imitated.

They took the first two chords from I Want To Hold Your Hand and added Lies and they were off and running

Beatles junior
I lip-synced this song in a lip-sync contest in High School in 2006 and the host said "Jessy is gonna lip-sync Lies by The Knickerbockers." And when the song came on, the audience went "Oh!" And crossed their arms because they thought it was The Beatles.
Great story! Yeah, The Knickerbockers were a Beatles sound-a-like.
