Absolutely brilliant!!
That was great! I loved your insights on composition and I can feel that translated into the tone of the film!
Thank you for the helpful content that you put out! This video helped me overthink the process less.
Thank you so much! Filmmaking is hard but it doesn’t have to be over complicated. Simple steps like LOCC help out a ton.
Really great, useful ideas. Trying to get my little videos to look more cinematic so definitely feel inspired to learn from your style. Thanks for taking the time to go through this
Thanks man! You can check out our course where we dive into lighting, scripting, and distribution
Good stuff and thank you for all of the great content you publish.
Minor Criticism:
Not the biggest deal in the world, but the terms “wide” or “medium” or “close-up” aren’t “focal lengths.”
One could shoot a “close-up” using a lens with a FOCAL LENGTH of 24mm… And then step back a couple of feet for a “medium” shot using the same exact lens (same focal length)... And then climb to the top of a hill, spin around and grab a “wide” shot using the same exact lens (same focal length). Although the field of view changes in each of the three camera positions, the focal length remains the same.
Again, not a huge deal, but I do think some folks new to filmmaking may get confused by what’s been communicated here.
A very good director once said to me, “know your vocabulary.” She at least said it with a smile.
Keep doing what you’re doing. It’s really fantastic.
Not only are you an AMAZING director but you are also really good at editing
you really inspire me and i feel need and want to make something known
Nicely done!
Bro I really love your work 😁😁😁
Very Nice! Congratulations! And thanks for the tips!
No problem 👍
Love your informative videos.
Glad you like them!
That was fricking great dude, well done.
Thanks man
I thought it was great. It immediately captured my attention and I could see and feel the excitement and urgency of the girl snapping the photos. 4.5 sounds like a lot of money, but in movie making world, you know it's nothing. The movie "Get Out" had a budget of 4.5 million but went on to rake in 255 million dollars worldwide.
Btw u really inspire me 😁😁😁
What the what! You just blew my mind with your combo of AI tools. I just started writing my next short film which is a monster movie. I'll probably still require vfx artists to bring it to life but this is such a cool way of animating concept art to give a better feel for what it might be like in motion!
Ah man, I’m so pumped to see your film dude! Monster films are the best, I wanna do a feature flick so bad. I think with some more time and assets the AI stuff can go miles. Share your film when you’re done.
its great that you used the sandbanks. Such a awesome location
It's the bestest! WE love it!
@@ZachRamelan are you close to the area?
Good job. My question for you is what works best in terms of length (duration) of short film you submit in festivals?
Good question. Usually, shorts are around 10 minutes or under, and features are around 80 - 100 minutes. Anything that goes to 30-45 minutes is really hard for festival coordinators to program. I'm not too sure what the sweet spot is for time, but I've learned that genre matters the most.
Learning a lot from this guy👌👌
learning lots from you!
Awesome video man
Thank you so much!
Well done
Zach, that was 🔥🔥🔥!
Thanks David! 🔥🔥🔥
This was cool. And helps as a possible cure to overthinking and too much perfectionism. The only thing i would comment about the final film is, I agree that the overhead snap shot seems jarring, but IMO you couldve done without the monster shot. If u see a headline on the computer and u cut back and forth as you get closer to the headline to read it with staying on her reaction to seeing something really really big and horrible in front of her and cutting to black just as she starts to scream...
Great movie.
Zach this is great! What is that attachment to your gimbal thar your monitor is on?
That’s the arm the crane 4 comes with
@ZachRamelan Ah ok thanks. I thought it was the Crane 3 which I own and I don't have that.
Well done.
Thanks man
What gimbal did you use during this
The Crane 4!
Bro. You’re the GOAT. And you’re making me feel lazy. Slow down please 😂😂😂
I’m just trying to catch up to you 😘
Really appreciate the efforts you put into the craft and teaching. I really think what you do is invaluable for those of us trying to get really into the deeper parts of the filming community. That being said, I think its not right to use AI in such an integral part of your creative application especially for that which is being presented to film competitions.
Thanks for sharing. I didn’t even think about that in this process. I’ll keep AI in mind for future projects.
@ZachRamelan I really hope my comment doesn't seem dismissive of all your work. I really respect all enormous amount of work that goes into making any project and I still see it here. I'm just a bit iffy about AI and art and I hope my comment didn't come of as rude in any way. Again, thank you for all the high quality lessons you provide for free!
I liked the idea. Only things I'd say that took me out, were the random overhead tree shot during her burst shooting and then the VFX masking at the end (trees are always a pain in the butt lol).
Agreed. I thought the same thing. Cutting from a photographer in the ground to aerial shots of the trees didn't make sense.
maddddddd
"neverous..."
Looks excellent - except why the drone shot?
Good call, now you’ve got me re-thinking it. I threw it in for the film the breath, but now I don’t like it haha
eh, the bar to get selected for screening in film festivals and even win awards is very low since there are hundreds of them. the vast majority of submissions are student films or look like one.
This is a great video! Def have a new sub out of me. I'm looking into your course.
Yeah!!!!! Would love to have you join the launch. 🚀 are you making a movie now??
@@ZachRamelan Currently in the process of writing a short with the target of filming in July.
This wasn’t shot with the A7iii surely not?
Sony FX3 🙌
@@ZachRamelan beautiful image - great work 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Unbeliveable, as a cinematograhper I know the time difficulty
AKA how to shit something uninteresting out fast. You've really mastered the art of creating soulless shorts. Just slap some sound design and some blurry ass AI generated imagery on it and call it a day! This might help someone who is just starting out to get their feet wet, but beyond that, it's a complete waste of time. My guess is this only gets into those small or scam like "film festivals" that plague filmfreeway, and those laurels mean nothing these days.
Hey Julian, thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings.
Just a reminder, behind this channel (and all channels) is a real person, with real feelings trying to educate and inspire others. Everything we make has soul in it. Everything I make has my soul in it, and comments like these hit a personal spot.
Sorry to waste your time. Wish you could have gained value from those.
Don't let these kinds of comments get to you man, this was really inspiring for a lot of people, including myself, keep doing what you do! ❤
Kudos to you for offering a response that was both thoughtful and quite dignified. It need not have been either given its prompting, but it is surely to your credit that you are able to convey such maturity in light of such overwhelming hate.
Why are you trying to make a formula for film making
Filmmaking feels very complicated for many creatives trying to enter the industry. Because I want to see more great films from filmmakers who find it hard to share their voice, I made formulas to simplify the A to Z process.
@@ZachRamelanright forget what they’re talking about. I appreciate all your content ❤️💯
You lost me at A.I.
Oh no!!!
@@ZachRamelan Lol. Great job otherwise!
