"this is great I don't have to catch anything" Best line ever.
I have to tell you, the switch from stern boat view to head cam with the fish on consistently, then resetting with stern cam really gives you a feel of being part of the trip.
Thanks for that. It was a total stroke of luck and I couldn't believe how good that angle looked when I first saw it.
love how the boat starts getting towed around when you guys hook up
Nothing beats a good day fishing with your bro! When I grow up, I want to be like you! Tight lines!
An epic day was had with your brother. It can't get better than that. -Tyler
I like that high up camera shot Mr Skinner. What a great day on the water! Thanks for sharing.
Great video. Love the new camera angle. So happy to see you finally use a hook out. Next, use it with your blackfish jigs. You don't have to handle the fish, which is better for them, and it's a quicker transition when the bite gets hot.
I like that you wear your lifevest when with your brother...only way a retired coastie would have it!
Fantail camera is the cats ass John. REALLY adds to the video experience. Night and day better than the footage from the "head cam". Completely different (and improved) perspective to include the sea scape.
Thanks for that. The outcome of a lucky experiment.
Looked like a heck of a trip out there with your bro! Nice fish caught, Skinner
We had an epic bass day north of you Sat. Incredible fishing should continue for a few more weeks.
Damn it Skinner! You’re ruining my European vacation catching all those stripers in my backyard. Doesn’t even look like you got up at sunrise to do it. I’ll get there next week and find only porgies and sea robins.
Get off my drift! I was here first. I thought he'd lost his mind.
Yea the stern view is pretty cool.
That was a nice trip John.
I wanna be Just Like John Skinner when I grow up💪🏼💪🏼🎣🐟🐟🐟
I really like the go pro-on-the-pole camera angle rather then the chest or the head rig. A lot less shaking and can see your techniques better
Cool John.
Congrats on your fluke tournament win! I’m going to go night fishing for the first time on the NJ surf this weekend. I’m hoping to catch striped bass. Any tips from any of y’all are appreciated.
The tips are in his books and videos.
@@j121212100 I just bought "Striper Pursuit" I hope it will help me out!
I ordered my signed book .thanks john
Thanks for your support!
Least we can do for the videos and info u share with us ..much appreciated
Are you at the RACE? Ii live in NC now but the race was great to fish with that wicked RIP at times!
The Gut.
Great video and some nice Striper action. Always fun fishing with family and spending some time together. What conventional reel is that John? The "Spoon" Reel LINK sends you to Bimini Bay.
I love it to fug around with the homies
I'm glad you got it. Some don't.
absolutely wonderful content
Another nice and interesting video, on the spoon do you tie direct, you dont hear much about 3 way rigs these days but in those conditions its what works.
Great bass fishing! Wish I could cross the Atlantic and go there :-)
Anglersolo is present to monitor the video.. Success always my friend😊👍👍
make that one more purchase!
The high camera angle is so much better, glad your wearing pfd’s out there, it would be real nice if would show the fish marks on the screen, I’m struggling with that, I must be doing something wrong, I never see any ? Thanks.
Could not miss the fish marks this trip. Lots of stuff in the lower part of the water column.
Hello John. Great content. Big fan. I have questions on fishing the race in terms of boat positioning and drifting. I’m unsure if I am supposed to be in the rip or just outside of the rip in slowe moving waters. Any help would be appreciated. Keep up the great content and stay safe.
I don't fish the race with my boat. When I fish the gut, I try to avoid the back rip, but I won't fish there if I don't think I can handle going through it. The issue is when you get a big fish on and you drift far back.
Good day, just hate to see you grabbing then near the gills
The book so good I ordered it twice! Lol. I accidentally ordered it when I tried to get "A Season on the Edge" so my buddy is getting it for his birthday. :) Those Skinner jigging rods look really interesting to me. On my cod jigging rod, the butt is too long for fishing on the kayak. How are those rods from the kayak? I am having a tough time getting a feel for how they would be sitting down.
I use the lighter version of this rod on my kayak when bay fishing. It's great.
John, love your videos. Any idea where to find that leaning post on your boat?
Awesome vid as always! Very informative, thank you
Jigging is probably my favorite style to fish in this area. I have yet to catch on a spoon - curious, what were they feeding on? Did not see any forms of baiting get regurgitated
We saw some butterfish and adult bunker.
great video as always. When you're fishing that spoon im noticing something...you are leaving a lot of slack in your line when you rip it up and let it fall. I noticed i will miss fish when doing it this way. The goal here is to rip the spoon up and then "catch" the slack on a semi-tight line and feel the flutter back down. You will feel more strikes this way. Goodluck and thanks for the content. Tight lines.
Great comment. Thanks.
So these flutter spoons are the new diamond jigs of 50 years ago
What body of water are you fishing. You only specify eastern LI?
When fishing the gut is it better to drift north to south during the outgoing? Or are you drifting into the rip during incoming?
I was fishing incoming. Both tides produce.
How about using spoons and bucktails drifting under a bridge in a back bay? Would both day and night be a good time?
Or is that more open water?
Bucktails everywhere. Not so sure on the spoon in that environment.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing ok thank you! That was a sweet video!
Awesome video, thanks John! Are you using a mono or fluorocarbon leader? How long and if fluorocarbon what knot, I have trouble with a clinch because the line is so stiff, won’t the blues chew right through it? Would think a short wire leader but the bass might pass on that?
I don't want to use wire. I'm using 80-pound fluoro, but mono would probably be fine too. Leader length is close to 4 feet. Clinch knot in the leader.
Thanks so much, if you see a light blue Sea Hunt 235, that’s me, keeping it in the SH annex dock in Greenport, tight lines!
Lmao big ass bass
Hi John, I noticed you keep your gulp in that playmate cooler, do you put an ice pack in there, or is it just so you dont have gulp juice all over the place?
Spillage control. Good question.
Great video sir!!! The camera on the back, how is that mounted? Homemade camera pole in the rod holder? Tight lines!!
Yes. Homemade with angled rodholder.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing its a great perspective, I'll have to ry to make one myself. the yolotech poles are pricy
Great stuff as usual John. Question....how do you determine the speed of the drift?
GPS tells me.
Hi from mersin Türkiye
What are the cons if you were to spot lock when you were marking fish?
You would be in big trouble with the other boats. Everyone here is drifting. Peak currents are > 4mph. But let's pretend you were the only one there and you were able to do it. Your line would scope out way behind the boat because the current would be running so fast underneath.
When was the video recorded
Hi John, do you use the link feature on you ipilot? Thanks
When fluke fishing it's great to set up a drift.
Hi John .. how long does it take you to get to the rip from your home port ? I have an older 17’ skiff with a 40hp ,what conditions would be acceptable to make that run ?
It's about 20 minutes, but other than the Seadoo FishPro that fishes there, I've been the smallest and least powered boat out there every trip this year. I'd be hesitant to use your rig there because the 40 might not have enough power to get out of the slop cleanly.
Thanks … I appreciate your opinion. I will have keep her closer to home I guess.
Any areas around there that would be more suitable to target stripers ?
Not at this point in the season that I'm aware of.
Do you ever keep any bass for dinner?
No. I prefer other fish.
What was the size limit this year for NY? Mass had a slot of 28-31, hard fish to find
It was 28-35, but may have changed. I don't keep any, so I don't pay too much attention.
Yeah it also change to 28-31” here in New York too, I’m catch and release only guy but there’s been a ton of slot sized fish from shore this year at least down this way
This spoon is very intriguing? We’re these fish on pogies?
Yes, and butterfish.
North shore or south shore?
North
What reel is that ?
Maxel Hybrid 25. There's a link in the video description.
The said part many of them die catching Release check check this statistic
Rastgelsin
John...Evinrude finally give up?
Underpowered for this boat (40hp) so sold it.
Your drift? You own the water? I saw you buzz way to close to couple of boats drifting. I like your videos, but thank God you did not stop and yell at me!
That was my friend! We were kidding!
@@JohnSkinnerFishing my bad!
No problem. I don't think you were the only one.
Did you not watch the video before commenting. Smh
@@bobthompson9890 Bob, I did watch the video! I did see him buzz too close to other guys drifting, but I did not realize that was his friend!
