    The things I notice most after quitting a year ago
    1. No more acid reflux
    2. No more waking up at night for the toilet
    I still love the taste, so will have an organic decaf now and again.
    There's a lot of false hype around caffeinated coffee ... either by those selling it or addicted to it.

    The thing about coffee is that it makes me more impulsive and frustrated throughout the day. I can feel my cortisol levels are higher. Also I only get 2-3 hours of productivity when drinking coffee VS 6-7 hrs of highly productive work when I quit. But the worst is the fact that it makes me more impulsive to carnal desires later on in the day like gluttony, lust, sloth etc...

    Excellent explanations on the subject of caffeine and poor sleep and I have watched many videos by Matthew Walker, but it always revolves around coffee consumption. I am going through withdrawal after many years of drinking black tea... up to 8 mugs a day! Some advice regarding caffeine in tea would be helpful as it seems that there is a difference between tea and coffee release into the system. I'm doing well after cold turkey and won't be returning once out the other side. Sleep still awful but the 'fight or flight' hyper thinking seems to be easing.

      If it has caffeine, yes. As a general rule of thumb, black tea has half of the caffeine per serving when compared to a typical cup of coffee; green tea has about a third; and white tea can range from having less than green tea to having the same, possibly more, than green tea. It depends on a lot of factors.

    If a quarter of the caffeine is still in the system 12 hours after having it , what point do we need to finish caffeine for enough to be out out of your system to not alter sleep quality ?
    Does the type of caffeine matter such as Green tea versus coffee ?

    • @robbatayaki5505
      @robbatayaki5505 Před 10 měsíci

      if half life is 5/6 hours, then if you take it 15 to 18 hours before sleep.... you will have only 1/8 of caffeine (12%) which means if you go to bed at 10pm, take your coffee at 7 am..... very impractical. And yes, green tea has only 30% of caffeine compared to same volume of coffee. My solution is to have coffee only every other day. And in between, tea, lemongrass ginger..... Other solution/variation is to take only 1 cup....

    • @andrewbatkin8211

      An eighth still in system seems like a very significant amount doesn’t it ? I want to know how long it takes until it is 100 percent out of the system . Also gyokuru green tea from Japan ,which tastes great , has more caffeine than most coffees and I am told so does matcha . I know coffee caffeine content varies quite a bit based on region and the roast . The tea has theanine in it which is calming so it may negate some of the stimulant effect so that’s why I am curious if it matters tea or coffee.

    • @elijah4973
      @elijah4973 Před 5 měsíci

      @@andrewbatkin8211 The half life/quarter life is misleading. It seems like there's an exponential decrease in the metabolization of caffeine, like the other guy replied, but there's not, your body will continue metabolizing it and no caffeine will be in your system before too long. It all depends on you tolerance, genes, etc., but if you don't drink that much caffeine none will be in your system beyond 12 hours.

      Have you ever tried making your own coffee from decaf beans? They've come a long way in recent years.. it tastes damn near identical to my taste buds. Also if you don't want to quit completely, you could always do half/half of regular beans and decaf beans to make 'half-caf' coffee. That helped me when I was cutting back on my caffeine intake.

  • @OsAbliNgin911
    @OsAbliNgin911 Před 10 měsíci +4

    I think the quality of coffee matters too. Average folks are drinking low quality coffee. Most Americans or folks around the world drink coffee brands like Maxwell House, Folgers, and Nescafe. Basically brands that use low quality coffee beans that are sprayed with pesticides that usually don't always taste good, and are cheap to buy at the grocery store. They are not drinking the best quality coffee for taste, antioxidants, and health benefits. Then people wonder why they feel crappy when drinking coffee. I think the Bulletproof coffee craze opened a lot of people's eyes about coffee, and that the quality of coffee actually matters to certain folks or makes a difference.

In this review, we describe the potential of ketogenic approaches to produce cognitive benefits in healthy individuals, as well as those with MCI and AD.
