Thank you for the great real world perspective on this repair. There's nothing more frustrating to see somebody do a job "in 10 minutes" and your still out dinking with it 2 hours later. Going to jump on this tonight so I can get my heater up and running again. I had to bypass it this summer when one of the fitting snapped off and left me stranded in the middle of Texas. Now I need some heat. Thanks again.

Thanks for the Video and spot on repair Joe. Ex Masshole here, move to Montana 22 years ago. I just bought an 05 Tahoe and this fitting was leaking when I bought it. At first I just thought a couple hose clamps may fix it, now I know what I'm REALLY dealing with. Very informative, will get parts and give it a go. I found it's easy to disconnect by hand but first take off front hose then bottom line and then use left hand to push top tab and right hand to push bottom tab. Also I noticed the tabs dont need a lot of pressure on them, just slightly press on them and then wiggle and pull and they'll pop right off

I'm going to try adjusting clamps, on my ford there is enough room to slide the hose over the pipe. I have enough room to rachet the adjust screw carefully because it is aluminum. Ever since invented those clamps proved to be reliable. I'm not a fan of push connect plastic fittings for 180 degree hot water. I do trust shark bites for home plumbing.
