    Personally, I took the Google PM cert and both enjoyed it and learned a lot since I do not have experience in PM. Plus, the hands on assignments are helpful and the templates you get are great tools for later. But I am using that as my required hours and I’m currently studying for the CAPM. In my own searches PMI certainly seem to be the most desirable. So, I agree do both.

    I’m a Business Analyst and I’m taking the Google PM certificate to add PM in my skills and help me to be more organized , not really to work as a PM. I really like how google created this course I’m learning a lot and is helping me as a BA and also to manage small-medium projects in the future because there are Hybrid BA roles to work as a BA/PM.

      @alvinthepmofficial  Před 2 měsíci +1

      That's awesome, glad to hear you're progressing fast through the program! If you already meet the minimum 3 years of work experience managing projects professionally, then I'd recommend going straight for the PMP Exam. If you do not meet this experience, then go for the CAPM Exam. I have actually worked with other Project Managers, who do NOT have a degree in Engineering, but have risen the ranks to be a Project Manager and even higher (Manager to even Director levels). I encourage you to start applying to entry-level roles in Project Management to get your foot in the door, and to take advantage of any opportunities that come your way

    Where did you guys get your 23hours of education ?

  • @MatthewEaton
    @MatthewEaton Před 6 měsíci +16

    I have to admit that while the Google course was decent (finished it in a week to get it "for free"), it didn't have the same weight as the PMI material. Half of the Google course was more about Google's policies than it was about actual project management. This is fine because the course was created to train people in the Google way. However, not every company is Google.
    To be honest, I have been told by my employer that they will never seek a project manager and that I "wasted my time," but that's okay. I'll just find another company that will appreciate what I can do and I will keep learning, see if I can get that Agile cert or get the SCRUM master setup.

    • @alvinthepmofficial
      @alvinthepmofficial  Před 6 měsíci +3

      @MatthewEaton, thanks for sharing your own experiences taking the Google Course. And, you're right, not every company is Google. It's unfortunate that your employer isn't looking for a Project Manager at this time. If that's the case, I encourage you to look at other companies in your area for Project Manager roles, because there are definitely companies out there needing PMs (from entry level to mid and senior). Keep going, and don't get discouraged by what your employer said. If I had stayed at my first company, I wouldn't be where I am today, and I wouldn't have been able to pivot into Project Management. You got this!

      For the 23 hours requirement, you can use any educational course taught at a university, in-person course, or online platform (such as Coursera or Udemy). I'd encourage you to choose the ones that give a certificate at the end of it (such as Udemy or Coursera), so you can leverage it, in case your application gets audited (not likely, but just to err on the safe side).

      Bradley, the Google Course will give you a very strong foundation in project management, and would recommend taking it. Just keep in mind that the CAPM Certification will test your knowledge in ways that the Google Course will not test you on. I like to think of the Google Program as something that will help start or build your knowledge, if you're just getting started in Project Management, so you can be well versed when you start applying to jobs. Depending on your experience and the roles & industry you're interested in, I'd encourage you to go for the CAPM Certification and/or Agile or Scrum Certifications, to help you stand out on your resume with the jobs you're applying to.
