I have only 6 months of experience as Security Engineer. Should I pursue a career in project management or get more experience?

What he is saying exposes something very important. He had these expectations before becoming a PM. As does EVERYONE else. While these are not your expectations in reality. Those around you believe they are and will absolutely hold you to them. It’s a constant battle trying to align your stakeholders to appropriate expectations. They will absolutely expect you to know everything about the project, they will expect you to be a SME in their work-stream and others from another work-stream will expect the same. I work with marketing, finance, sales, business intelligence, etc on one project and they ALL expect me to know and understand everything about their side of the business. They expect you to be able to make decisions on their behalf, schedule meetings for them, set dates for them, establish all important tasks for them, answer for them, and on and on. The amount of ownership you have without any authority is extremely difficult. Easily the hardest job I have ever had and I have done everything from a manager of sales, operations manager, director, business controls manager, supervisor, just to name a few.

Hi Alvin, love your work for the project management community! Can I please request a video on Google Project Mangement certificate vs. IBM IT Project Management certificate, both on Coursera. Google PM vs. CAPM vs. PMP has been done a lot now. It would be nice to bring more certificates into comparison. For me CAPM and PMP are basically Entry vs. Advanced certificates, both offered by PMI. One should match their skill and experience and go for the certification accordingly. There is not much more to it. I have CSM (Scrum), CAPM and IBM IT Project Management (Coursera) under my belt and looking for other certifications to upskill myself to get my foot into the door of project management world. I am in a career transition from accounting. Also a suggestion for what other specialisations/professional certificates on Coursera should one consider in order to become a well rounded (Assistant) Project Manager. For example: # Business English Communication from Uni of ABC... # Leading People and Teams from Uni of XYZ... # Conflict Management from Uni of PQR... # Solving Complex Problems from ..... # Strategising, Influencing, Negotiating, etc..... Not all but may be which one or two would be essential/great to have. I know it depends on one's personal assessment as to which skill one lacks but generally which one will be most useful in the PM role....? PM certifications are essential at the core of the PM work, but one needs to have more than just the core PM certifications to really be a successful PM.

I managed small projects for 3 years as a Reliability Project Engineer and for last 8 months I am working as Operational Readiness Reliability Engineer under Major Project devision of BHP, one of the world's biggest mining companies. I have a 4 year engineering bachelor degree and 2 years Masters degree. I also finished my Google Project Management course recently from Coursera. My question is can I directly sit for PMP exam without sitting for CAPM ? If so for my project management experience what I need to submit to PMI? Thanks in advance.

I have a suggestion: could you consider adding in to your product backlog a course on Jira that covers more of its features? how to create reports, monitor project progress in Jira (burn down/burn up charts etc in depth? The current course touches on just a fraction of what Jira offers, but it is a great course. This will allow us to prevent it from happening again. As the question indicates, there appears to be a disconnect between the customer's wishes and what the team understands. I believe that it is critical to maintain close communication with the customer and discuss DOD with the product owner.

I rather take the ACP exams as the world is going agile and i find IT projects more interesting. Can you make more content on ACP exams?
