  • A quick tour of my solar shed in my garden. I can power a 75w freezer 24hrs a day, boil full 2 kettles and charge or use various other equipment.
Here is my solar shed setup:
    Renogy 30a mppt charge controller
    1500w pure sine inverter 9
360w solar panels (120w each) which are also made by renogy
    eco-worthy 100ah 12.8v lithium battery (which give around 1200wh)
My second system is a 100w solar panel
    eco worthy inverter/charge controller (pwm)
50ah eco worthy 12.8v lithium battery
This system is primarily used for charging laptops, phones and my apple watch.
I tried using a lead leisure battery but it took around 4 times longer to charge and also discharged much quicker. The lithium batteries are really worth it as you get almost the whole capacity. I would say that my inverter cuts off at around 10 percent of the battery.
It was very easy for me to set up the solar shed and all of the equipment, took around 2 hours for the big one and maybe an hour for the smaller one with 100w panel.
going for monocrystaline will yield better power absortion than polycrystaline.
Any questions I will try to answer in another video, ask away!

I have finally got the time to catch up on your videos as ive taken some time off from work to have a surgery ive been putting off for a while and the wife & I are thoroughly enjoying all the new videos you've uploaded. That's a nice set up you have in your shed Christian, you really know your stuff when it comes to electronics. Thank you for sharing 😊

It takes a little bit of learning and sone common sense but I got there in the end with it all. I do want to expand it a Brit more though! Probably 4 more solar panels as winter has been a sharp learning curve and possibly something bigger to put them on like a small cabin instead of a shed.
I reckon by doing that it would save a bunch more money

@Christian Thomas More panels will definitely help your situation and we are so sorry to hear what your country has had to endure with the power and heating situation it's just not fair 😔 Wishing you and your family nothing but the best during the holidays and new year to come.

Oh crap! That looks so complicated. Seems very confusing. You are very talented!

It’s pretty easy and for the most part safe. These batteries have safety measures in place. It took 2hrs to put it all together from start to finish. The hardest part was finding the parts lol
I’ve added another panel this week too to get even more energy. I would say that if I got another battery I could live in the shed.

@@vacaydiaries 😂plan on getting the boot?!
Very cool. Now buy a shade for the window, some drywall and a carpet w some floor pillows and you’re all set. 😄

I’m going to insulate it to keep things dry and maybe put some wood panels over the insulation. That’ll be about it. I do at some point want to get a cabin to go in the garden and put a lot more panels up on the roof. If I got that I would definitely do it up properly.

That's a neat setup. Is that a Bluetooth Battery monitor I can see? I use one in the car but thinking about fitting one to my shed solar setup too, so I can keep an eye on voltages. Do you track volts/current etc?

That's an excellent idea 👍 Christian!! Especially with the current situation and future. I watch a lot of off grid channels so I have an idea.
Have you thought about insulation for the shed?? Maybe some tyvek??
Have you thought about using it for your house?? Might I suggest an EMP shield for your solar... It will protect against any EMP ( electro magnetic pulses). Some you already have solar panels have you thought about a portable power battery?? Oh yeah, and another battery is another good idea. A spare.. Lithium batteries are the best...
Have you thought about prepping for food and water yet?? It's always good to be prepared for any emergencies!!
    Great job 👍 Christian!!

I’ve got a power station and want to get another. I’m also insulating the shed too to keep out any damp. The shed acts as as a small larder too.

Might need a vent of some kind as to circulate the air.. remember that the batteries have to remain at a certain temperature 🌡️... Otherwise they will die.. insulation is key...

Not much room in there to spruce it up but I’m going as far as insulation and that’s about it.

Why have fuses from your PV to the charge controller?

Ok soooo the most important question is How much did a small setup like that cost you?
My dad has a cabin by his lake that he hooked solar and wind to before they were "cool" but that also equated to it being a bit costly for a small cabin.

    • @vacaydiaries
      @vacaydiaries  Před rokem +1

I think the whole setup cost just under £1000. I did it but by bit, starting off with a normal leisure battery. Half the cost was the lithium battery.
