- The Mount Washington Valley sounds a little different these days, as Conway Scenic Railroad's Gp7 is now sporting a melodious M5 horn. This is the type of horn that 573 had during its days pulling the Maine Central Office Car Special.
If there’s any locomotive the M5 suits, it’s the GP7s and GP9s. Love this horn.
Brief history on 573’s Horns: It started out with an M5 (It actually may have had an M3 when it was first built). Following it’s 1981 accident, the M5 was replaced with a newer M3 as the M5 was likely damaged. The M3 stayed on it through It’s ST/D&H time and it came to the Conway Scenic (still numbered 27) In The mid 1990s. Sometime between then and 2003, the M3 was Replaced With a Nathan P5. It has had a couple other horn changes at the CS, including a K3L. A few years ago they even put its old M3 back on when the P5 got fixed up.
AllertorSiren05 what was the accident???
I believe it rolled off the tracks or something
I’m glad they put the P5 on 216 and put the M5 on this engine, it’s a much better fit!
I feel like the S5T should have stayed on 216
@@TrainfanProductionyea it sounded better on 216 than 255
@@coasternamegenerator5611True but what horn should be on 255?
@@TrainfanProduction they have a Leslie rs3l from 1751 as far as I know.
@@coasternamegenerator5611 Maybe, But I’m not sure if that would fit 255 Heres how I believe the horns show be at Conway Scenic
4266: Keep as is
4268: Keep as is
216: Bring back Leslie S5T the one that on 255 rn
252: Bring back the Original K5 it had
573: Keep M5 as is
1751: Bring back the K5 thats on 252 or its original RS3L how ever I do like the M3RT1 it has now
255: Unsure possibly another K5
1749: unsure of what that will have
7470: Original CN 6 Chime
501: Maine Central 3 Chime
This is the one from the NHN's GP18.
And before that, NEGS 566 and Winnipesaukee Railroad #2
I just found out that this M5 came of of NHN GP18 503
Great work! Although I’m going to miss that P5 that I grew up hearing, the M5 sounds terrific when its valve is opened up all the way!
Thanks! I agree I liked the P5 but this M5 sounds great!
Where did they get this M5 from? Also is it to replace the P5 as a permanent horn? This horn pits 573 so much better
AllertorSiren05 Im not sure where it came from. I believe it is a permanent(ish) change but im not positive. I agree though, its a great horn for 573
On loan from NHN railroad in ossipee. More than likely a permanent fixture .
Well the P5 is currently on 216 now so I’m gonna say that the M5 is now a new permanent change to 573
This m5 is not a bad horn, but I be think it is one of the worst m5's to date. That being that this is decent and most m5's are phenomenal.
Big Boy Pasta I do agree on that but I believe the M5 sounds much better than the P5
To be honest, this actually might be the best M5 and not the worst. I like deep and loud horns so.
@@Mass_Central_Railfanner fair. My opinion has changed a lot since then.
@@Mass_Central_Railfanneralso I think it’s fair to note the engineers weren’t giving her full air. M horns are air gobblers so they need a fuck ton to really get going.
