    Nice! I gotta try this. I have a Cygnus Wall shot with the 585. And i cant even get the gaia DB to solve it. This looks promising!

    After much frustration, Polygons worked for me. You are the only one that I have seen mention this, thank you😃😃

    Very useful tutorial
    I was having a lot of trouble solving one particular image.
    By adjusting some of the parameters you suggested it finally worked. And I was able to run SPCC successfully.
    Thank you 🙏🏻

    Super useful tutorial. I now use this plate solving technique (transferring the plate solve parameters from the original image) all the time. Particularly useful for Mosaics

    Another issue I found, and I saw it in your video as well, after you specify the object to solve it sometimes checks the 'S' option for the Southern hemisphere. That one had me chasing ghosts for awhile.

    Platesolving never works for me. I can solve individual mono subs, no problem, but once they are stacked, never. Cant solve the individual channels, can't solve the combined RGB). It's super frustrating. I use DSS for stacking, I can bring in a stacked image and one sub and they overlay perfectly. Copy the fits header from the sub that will solve to the stacked frame, solving fails. Always. I have spent so much time trying to figure this out. I tried doing ABE & BN first, no difference. Rotating the image, no difference. Other software platesolves it fine. Pixinsight, as the "premier" package should just work.
    And yeah, whoever is in charge of their UX should just be fired, it has always been terrible, but it's getting worse. I find this is often the case when there is no competition.

    • @viewintospace
      @viewintospace  Před rokem +1

      First, nobody can be fired at PI, because I would bet nobody is in charge of UX. In fact I think they do not even know that UX is a thing......
      Second, send me a download link of a pic you can't platesolve together with the relevant data (Object name, date/time of recording, focal length of your scope, pixel size of your cam and I will have a look - sascha.wyss(a)me.com

    • @captainwasabi
      @captainwasabi Před rokem

      @@viewintospace ahha, I expect you are right on the money for UX.
      As I was preparing the download I was looking at the file sizes and wondering why the stacked image was so much larger than the sub. Then I realized I 2x drizzled which I always do (and platesolving never works, hmm) so, thinking about it, I halved my pixel size and viola' platesolved. Can't believe this didn't occur to me earlier.
      Anyway, thank you for the offer, it IS what solved the problem if only indirectly. Now I have a dozen or so images I need to go reprocess :) I think I'm going to pick up blur extractor and noise extractor too.
      I look forward to your content in 2023!

    • @captainwasabi
      @captainwasabi Před rokem

      @@viewintospace since i found the problem was drizzling I have a question. What is your opinion of drizzling (I use DSS for stacking)? I'm really just using it to bring the image up to print rez before working on it, but maybe that is bass-ackwards?

    • @viewintospace
      @viewintospace  Před rokem +1

      @@captainwasabi As SPCC actually recommends to drizzle, I do it but only on scale 1

    How would the fits header work for a monochrome file, say OIII, if the others properly plate solved?

    • @viewintospace
      @viewintospace  Před rokem

      Well, you only need to add it to the color combined pic as only then you do SPCC. So after color combination just throw the FITS data of any file which has proper data into the color combined one, and then you can plate solve it.

    The SPCC tool it’s ridiculously complicated to get setup, I’ve spent hours on it and and getting a number of different problems… not sure it’s even worth bothering with, after updating PI the plate solve script is now missing so I gave up at that point… Hard to believe PI isn’t freeware as poorly written as the software is…

    • @viewintospace
      @viewintospace  Před rokem +1

      I feel your pain, but it is not all bad with PI. The two huge issues PI has is that UX/UI design is just a disaster and that it seems rather unstable in managing scrips and processes - like you now losing the the Image solver script. For the later usually a reinstallation of the software solves the issue. But beside that PI is still by far the most powerful processing software, and from my point if view it is still worth it going through all the pain to harvest the capabilities the software has.....

      @robertw1871 Před rokem +1

      @@viewintospace Yeah it’s hard to stop using it, as difficult as it is it’s still the best tool we have… Ended up having to delete it and fresh install to get everything working again…

    it broke my plate solving now it doesnt work for me this was a bad move by the developers

    • @viewintospace
      @viewintospace  Před rokem

      I think I made it very clear the the removal of plate solving out of (S)PCC was a suboptimal move from my perspective and that their statement about "bad design" is nonsensical, as they left other processes combined and PIs whole script capability bases on combining processes.
      That said, the Image Solver script offers the same (and some more) plate solving capabilities as the ones which were included in. the PCC process. So could you give more details in which way you can not plate solve anymore (e.g error messages...) and I might be able to help.....

  • @baz_astra
    @baz_astra Před 6 měsíci +3

    So the Image Solver is basically a plate solver that can't plate solve unless you tell it what the plate solution is beforehand? My god! One does wonder sometimes if Pixinsight, despite its power, is in some way DELIBERATELY obfuscated in its UX by the developers as some kind of gatekeeping procedure. They are many, many, MANY opportunities for unbelievably easy improvements to almost every aspect of its user interface and experience, but the team singularly and vehemently ignores decades of best-practice while simultaneously deriding any member of the community who brings up its shortcomings. You have to wonder why?

    what if i stacked using deepskystacker which saves as a TIF

    • @viewintospace
      @viewintospace  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Well, if you mean regarding my FitsHeader advice, it is not about the stacked image, but about the individual subs which should be in .fits. Alternatively just either search in Image Solver according to object or star that is closest to the center of your pic.
