NEW Willbender DUAL PISTOL Open World Build

- Now that we have had the 2nd major update of the current Secrets of the Obscure expansion, we get to play with new weapons on all 9 professions. Guardians received dual pistols, which mainly function as hard and fast hitting weapons, allowing them to stack a massive amount of burning in short amounts of time.
Combining pistols with the Willbender's ability to nearly permanently have every single boon active, without having to use Jade Protocols, makes for an excellent open world speed farming build!
You'll be able to zip from enemy to enemy, while making short work of them. Even veterans and above won't last long, as after the initial burst, the stacks of burning will decimate whatever HP they have left.
This is probably one of the fastest, most survivable, and all round builds for the open world. All you need is a Willbender and 2 Pistols, and you'll be ready to take care of whatever the game throws at you!

Utter insanity, definitely going to give this build a try. Been playing a lot of Willbender lately and really enjoying how it feels, so definitely going to get these weapons unlocked and give it a try!
Awesome! Dual Pistols is a real boon for them in the open world, and with the virtue 1 refreshing every time an enemy dies, you basically have broken amounts of movement.
my guardian main mate should thank you for finally getting me to try willy b! super interesting using a major and superior sigil together this is the kinda creative buildcrafting shit I love. gotta give this a try
It's a slippery slope, before you know it, you'll be spending hours on willbender :)

One superior, one major. Gw2skills doesn't allow me to pick major sigils, so I settled for the next best thing 😅

Dual Pistol is the best main condi weapon for guard.

You can literally use this and just switch off pistol out for torch for a shit ton of dps... its so strong
True! I figured I might as well enjoy dual pistols for a bit, especially since it's the open world.
But Torch will remain "the" off hand weapon of choice.

The good news is that this build tears through Hero Points as well, so you should have both relatively soon :)
just saying. you can equip the jade bot salvage mod afterwards and it salvages the whole stack. eg you get a stack of junk you swap jade bot mods in guild hall jade bot bench go kill 1 thing and you get all that type of junk salvaged. this lets you keep might trophies on while farming for more gold
Oh? Thank you so much! I for one use jade slivers recently bcus I need extra season 4 gains as I'm working towards Vision but I felt bad missing out on extra magic/might trophies so.. thanks so much for this info! I wonder if it's an intended mechanic.. I hope it is.

Would you recommend Cele stats for solo play even for SW/SW or SW+Focus or would go Dragon stats instead ?
You could very well stick with celestial if that's your preferred setup. Rushing Justice has the ability to turn any guardian weapon into a condi weapon due to the fact that it inflicts burning for every 5 hits that you land.
That said, there's some really fun power builds out there for willbender, too. I do think focus will be more suited towards power builds, though.

Rune of the Traveler is nice too, 25% movement speed is nice.
Normally, I would agree. But the 25% movement speed is lost due to the willbender passive trait of also providing either that or swiftness, which sadly doesn't stack with the rune :(
The other stats are still a very good addition to the build, though.
Looks cool. I don`t have celestial but i have a set vipers. This gona work as a pure condi build?
Pure viper's is more than fine - with aegis, protection, regen, and resolution you'll have more than enough defense. Literally all 4 of Viper's stats are beneficial to the build :)
Why do you have two celerity sigils equipped on the same set? Even if they are different tiers, it specifically states on the sigil that they do not stack, so does the other one trigger if the first one is on cooldown, but they do not technically "stack" as in triggering back to back?
In this case, they actually do stack as long as you equip a superior and a major one (can't select major in the build link, though). Whenever I disable an enemy, I'm getting 14 seconds of quickness, which is 9 seconds base and the rest coming from gear, traits, etc.
I'm not sure if it'll ever get fixed, but this "anomaly" has existed for quite some time now. If it ever does, we'll just swap the major sigil with a sigil of rage :)

How do you get P5 to work properly? You need to let it charge? It doesn't seem to do as much damage as listed and doesn't do cc either 😢
You gotta use it twice, basically. You can do so in quick succession though.
Generally, you'll see me mash p5 until both the original and flip over have been used.
If you are at max range the max charge time will hit.
what would you do with the warrior staff ? i wanted to use spellbreaker with it but its bugged right now xd
I am still experimenting with both Spellbreaker and Berserker. The berserker heal makes the staff play smoother, due to it being able to reset the burst skill. But I'm trying to see if I can squeeze out something similar for Spellbreaker.

Would this work in fractals (up to 100) or are there potential issues?
There would be some optimisations for fractals:
- Replace sigils with Geomancy and Bursting, as someone else will be taking care of Quickness
- Pick Right-Hand Strength in Radiance, as Fury should be taken care of as well in a group
- Replace Bane Signet with Whirling Light so that you can stack burning much faster
If you're not an alacrity provider, you can also swap your grandmaster willbender trait to Tyrant's Momentum for another solid damage boost, and the middle trait to restorative virtues for more spamming.
Without any of the changes, you should still be able to hit OK DPS, but I would recommend the above in group content.
I use condi quick firebrand with ritualist gears, its my main and i do everything with it
without changing the whole gears, can i also do that with only swapping to wb and pistols?

Yep, that will work just fine! With ritualist gear you'll have enough concentration to have a nice buffer of quickness. The one thing you'll be giving up is some of the initial burst, but if you make sure to cast pistol 2/4 in pistol 3/purging flames, you'll stack enough burning for it not to matter at all.

my situation is, im guardian main and i play all content with it. i have full ascended gear as ritualist and berserker heavy. i cant put those out for warrior or revenant since i dont like them much.
thats why i want to play my alts and convert my guardian to open world build.
full ritualist or some changes with my legendary pieces and this build fits well i assume

@@yunusdts yep! Nothing really changed, and if the March 19 update goes through as planned, you even get some superspeed on your elite!
Ritualist will probably work better with the burning stacks, I might try and see how much of a difference it makes on berserker, though.
Hmm ... I have a Vipers dual pistol Willbender ... and I clearly play it wrong! Pistol 5 especially I find very tricky to use as the tier 3 release mostly seems to miss :(
That one is definitely rather clunky, took me some time of gameplay before getting it to land consistently. Still one of the most common things people mention in their feedback for the build, so you're definitely not alone :)

Did not believe the superior and major rune of Celerity stacked.... how is it with legendary rune, dose it count as the superior in that interaction? And this came in such a good time GS/SS willbender was starting to get boring, now time to HIGH NOON Tyria :D
Yep, the legendary one counts as a superior rune. So you'll have to purchase a major rune (which is very cheap, luckily) separately.
Any recommendation for a spot to get the 1000 kills done quickly?
Frostgorge Sound, near where the Claw of Jormag meta happens is a great spot. There's a high amount of very low hp enemies in that zone.

Are you sure those sigils stack? The gw2 wiki seems to indicate they should not...in the examples of sigil interactions it gives the example:
"A thief is wielding a main-hand dagger with a Minor Sigil of Agony (+10% Bleeding duration) and an off-hand pistol with a Major Sigil of Agony (+15% Bleeding duration). Only the major sigil's effect will apply, giving the thief +15% bleeding duration."
Is it maybe because it's a Superior and a Major or do you think its a bug?
The superior and major sigils do indeed stack for Celerity, I can imagine it isn't the case for certain % based sigils, though. Just double checked to make sure on the training golem, with all of the extra boon duration on the proposed setup you gain around 14 seconds total (9 base + concentration from celestial, leadership runes, relic of the herald).

@@phandrel hey man just reporting back here....this build is LIT...I checked it out last night, and even though I don't have access to Leadership rune, Rune of the Firebrand works just fine with it...the self boon generation is craaazy....I had 8-10 boons at all times, nearly permanent 25 stacks of might, quickness, swiftness, prot, Regen, and resilience....when we did the meta boss in the new zone I was getting 16-20k burn ticks in Celestial gear! And this all with me suspecting that pistol 5 is bugged....that cc doesn't seem to be working right but your backup plan of the Bane signet works just fine. Only tweak I made was taking the zealots flame trait and then I slotted in torch on the alternate set so I could toggle between p/p and p/t and it just melts everything to the ground. Hella good job on this one. Especially if you top it all off with some concentration or condi food! Kudos sir.

what is this like compared to Deadeye dual pistol?
Way more potent and in more situations. But you have to put in way more work as well, so that's the tradeoff.

I think for Open world pve celistil ist the best choice for Guardian
Yeah, they make great use of about every stat on that set.
Its a Alac/Quick build?
It provides both :) Alac through Willbender trait, and Quickness through the sigils and your elite skill.

Willbender would've worked so well as a thief spec as well, funnily enough.
Thief tried to steal necro's elite on the other hand.

You'll need the Secrets of the Obscure expansion to equip the new weapons, and either progress past a certain story point or unlock their usage through wvw/pvp. If you want to play the build in the meantime, scepter/torch should work as well, though.
