    In 2017 I bought a brand new right hand drive ranger XLT 2.2L turbo diesel 6spd. 4x2 and it was an incredible vehicle. We put it through its paces for 6 years and found it had more than adequate power, drove like a car and got incredible mileage. My only regrets are not ordering it with navigation screen or 4x4. It did have a real good limited slip rear end and got us up mountains and through sand without issues but a couple instances 4 wheel drive would have gotten us further. Moved back to Canada otherwise would have kept it.

    • @TFLoffroad
      @TFLoffroad  Před 5 lety +15

      Trust me, I agree! But it's not always so simple.
      The issue at this point in the winter is that there's 5-6 feet of snow and the ice is thick enough to support any pickup truck. So it wouldn't be the great mix of ice/mud that the 4Runner got. It would just be straight up deep snow.
      Plus, the Hydro Line trail is not close to where I live, so it's only when I'm up north that I use it.
      The trail you see in this video isn't a challenge, but it's close to my house! Sometimes proximity is most important.
      Thanks for watching and stay tuned for the spring when the Hydro Line trail will be at its deepest and muddiest!

    Anyone else alittle confused by the turn around after failing to climb the hill part? So you turned around somewhere way out of shot, then backed back to the hill to show the ranger facing the opposite direction? Seeing as how the tire tracks go over the hill, it looks more like you made it up the hill and turned around up there and drove back to the bottom of the hill, where you stopped to take your shot.

I think a truck that assists by smoothly turning the steering wheel into turns for you is a very nice feature for long drives.

    I can't be the only one annoyed by these snowy/off road driving reviews. The road u were on is like any road here in Maine, USA a few days after a good snow storm. I really think u guys should do some actual real world reviews but that's just my opinion. I've hauled ass at 45mph down an unplowed Rd with 2 feet of snow on it for fun and most of the guys doing these reviews get all nervous over nothing. There's a lot more like me out there that could make these reviews much more entertaining 👍👍👍

    • @RedWingsninetyone
      @RedWingsninetyone Před 5 lety +11

      @@davidseinen3483 4x4 is 4 wheel drive and 4x2 is 2 wheel drive (4 wheels and 2 with power). Basically like a standard car. 4x4 is usually a part time setting. However without 4x4, you don't have the option to go into 4 wheel drive at all. Try driving an empty pickup in the winter without 4 wheel drive. Pretty much anything is better (sorry, I'm ranting)

      @@davidseinen3483 no, it's industry wide, but you just never hear/see anyone use 4x2. That's usually only referred to as that when you are also referring to 4x4 at the same time. But I would think I might have enjoyed this XLT on a different level. The hill that thwarted you, it was merely because you did not have the momentum. You have to turn all that gadgetry off, put it in 4WD High (with the skid control off) and just get a proper run at it and keep going. I had the same issue on about the same grade. :)

    The headlights reminds me of the 2014+ Dodge Durango, and the side view looks like a smaller 2018 Dodge Ram 1500.. Ford ventured away from their current designs, and ended with cloning design from Dodge. Ford was very strategic trying to gain some of Dodge's sales; I just thought Kia and Hyundai were the main companies that copied many of General Motors design language. The Ranger doesn't look special like a true Ford, is not very appealing in such a competitive industry. They should have aimed for the Raptor version with Ford signature lights and design ques with maintain some originality. It was a lot of Hype for such a basic small truck/SUV comeback, with impractical rear seating use. Ford Could have done better, I'm hoping the upcoming Bronco design and power train won't be a disappointment, and that it will truly promote the future of Ford's to come! Tommy Wong this truck was designed in Australia in 2011, the design you are looking at came out in 2014. Australia doesn’t give a crap about the ram, considering it’s only a commercial vehicle there, very little personal users. UTES are the big thing there, it looks nothing like any of the other utes. People here can’t seem to understand this isn’t a new model, it isn’t a us design. It’s a truck brought over added a different bumper and beefed up the frame. It’s a entry vehicle for ford to decide if it’s worth investing more to have this truck here. The t6 platform has been proven for a while, but the engine is new for the states so that’s got to get some reviews.

    Well, the Ranger is and will get good sales in the USA based on the brand loyalty the fans and the Hype. Actual Rangers are not the same the previous generations and in a few years you will see I’m right. Most of USA buyers don’t like to recognize the amount of Mazda on those trucks (personally I think the Mazda touch is the reason they are better built and more reliable than the other Ford products) and very soon you will have a new generation of the ranger and in this case will be based (or evolved) on the Volkswagen Amarok so I’m very curious of the market reactions. You don’t know the Amarok yet but overseas we know it. It is fast, it is twin turbo, have nice numbers of torque and power, nice look and size but... in reality is fast but not strong, the engine is full of plastic parts and it is not reliable at all. Blowing heads, flying plastic pulleys, no transfer case, weak gears, crazy electronics....(I had the opportunity to use for a mid term a 2.0 twin turbo and a new 3,2 TDV6) If Ford and VW creates a really good competition it will be remarkable. The good thing is the growing sales of the Ranger will push the new generation of the Tacoma and Isuzu/Chevy/GMC triplets so for me and for the market it is a win win!
