Adaminde Chayakkada, must visit destination for Malabari Food served with a twist, Kidilan Prawns Fry, Kozhi Porichathu, Kallumakaya Nirachathu, Kunzhi Kozhi Nirachathu, Elaneer Chicken, Mapranam Fish Curry, Chatti Choru, Parotta Kizhi, Avil Milk
A relatively new entrant to Kozhikode’s vibrant food scene, Adaminte Chayakkada or Adam’s tea shop is the brainchild of investment banker turned restaurateur, Aneez Adam. A self-confessed food lover, Aneez sought to showcase the culinary traditions of his Mappila community but in a format that seemed relevant to current times. And thus was born ACKD, as it is known in local parlance, a tea shop that celebrates quirk in its decor and innovation in some of the fare on the menu, a formula that seems to have helped position it firmly on Kozhikode’s dining map.
Food Lovers’ Editor, Kripal Amanna visits Adaminte Chayakkada to chat with Aneez Adam and also taste some signatures on the menu, both traditional and dishes served up with the ACKD spin.
KIDILAN CHEMEEN FRY
Served quirkily in an old-fashioned iron box, these tiger prawns cooked in the skin are juicy and moist despite being charred. The prawns certainly hold their own against spicy assault of the red chilli aided by the toasty notes of coconut oil.
rs. 300 (usd 4.2)
9/10
KITABILEY KOZHI PORICHATHU
A chicken dish that will certainly hold your attention with its hot and spicy kick, If you’re faint-hearted, you may want to tame the chilli in this satay with a squeeze of lime.
rs. 235 (usd 3.3)
8.5/10
KALLUMAKAYA NIRACHATHU
A popular Kozhikoden snack, this dish of mussels stuffed with rice flour and then deep-fried with spices is a fixture on almost every restaurant menu. rs. 25 (usd 0.4) per piece
7.5/1
KUNZHI KOZHI NIRACHATHU
This roasted spring chicken, stuffed with mutta (egg) and masala made of loads of onions, thick coconut milk and cashew paste, makes for a rich bite, one that’s worthy of being served as a traditional first breakfast to a groom after the wedding. rs. 235 (usd 3.3)
10/10
ELANEER CHICKEN
Thickened with tender coconut and garnished with slivers of fresh coconut, this chicken stew is an ode to the versatility of the fruit of the cocos nucifera. There’s a gentle sweetness to this velvety stew and the gentle warmth of ginger and green chilli.
rs. 294 (usd 4.1)
9/10
MAPRANAM FISH CURRY
A vivacious curry that reflects typical toddy shop fare. The sour notes of the kokum dominate this ayakora or kingfish curry, followed by the heat of red chillies and the pungency of garlic. Savour this with boiled rice.
rs. 500 (usd 6.9) price varies, depending on the size of fish.
9/10
CHATTI CHORU
Basically, the equivalent of a sadhya served in a claypot (chatti). Work the choru (rice) with the smorgasbord of dishes in the chatti, be it the dry shrimp chutney, the fried fish, aviyal or the fish thiyal, or coriander fish curry. rs. 80 (usd 1.1)
8/10
PAROTTA KIZHI
A weighty dish of three parottas drenched in coconut milk and wrapped around chicken masala and steamed in a banana leaf bundle. A sumptuous one-dish meal.
rs. 190 (usd 2.6)
8/10
AVIL MILK (CALICUT FALOODA)
AC’s spin on the Malabar staple, avil milk, is loaded with calories but sinfully delicious!
rs. 80 (usd 1.1)
9/10
CHILLI HORLICKS
Sweet Horlicks spiked with chilli flakes and pepper! Perfect for a cold night, if ever Kozhikode has one.
rs. 55 (usd 0.8)

The food here is not good
Sir you have made the food reviewing work a serious business many people don't understand that food reflect one's culture and one can experience culture via food. Especially when one is travelling . This brings a whole new dimension to exploration. I can experience the finer nuances of a particular culture via the food.
Oh My God!!! What a place it is... First time watching owner having this much passion towards Food Establishment. Surely Taste also will be mind blown
Kapil, as usual the Gourmet On The Road is taking us to new experiences on food and dining!. Being a Keralite i loved last few episodes from Kozhikode. Every state in India will have variety of tastes and traditions, have seen the past episodes of Food Lovers TV on food traditions in Karnataka, Goa and Andhra. Love to watch similar videos within Kerala. Also we expect Food Lovers TV to cover more dining experiences across regions from eastern and north India !. Good videos , Keep this up!.
Thank you, Joseph.
Retro style !!!!! Looking at all the old radios and lanterns I imagined myself in a flashback and loved the experience. Thanks to the entrepreneur for taking us back in time !
I have that same radio at my house🤩
Great ! Does it work !?
@@dwarkanatha5281 No😕😪😌

EVERYTHING AT ADAMINTE CHAYAKKADA LOOKS HANDSOME. EVEN THE OWNER AND WAITER ALONG WITH THE HOST OF THIS CHANNEL. TEN OUT OF TEN.

THANKS JAY FOR TAKING TIME OUT TO REPLY TO ME. Awesome restaurant very creative and food presentation so commendable
I loved each bite of this episode.
Mr.Kripal its really amazing that u pronounce malayalam words very well👌great work Sir👍
The boards are a nice way to keep the tradition and culture alive. I don't understand why people flip out if the same is done regionally; Bangalore especially.
unlike kozhikode bengaluru is like pan india.. people are from different places coming there only thier job or bussiness not interested or having time to indulge with the local culture.. but in kozhikode we can see less number of people s only from different places are living there but not rushy like bengaluru so they got time to experience the kozhikode delicacy..
@@makenomistake33 Bangalore shouldn't be sacrificing it's local culture due to influx of other state people.
@@satanshameer690 Bangalore is Bangalore is because of the so called multicultural influx. That's y it is one of the most beloved places no matter which state one is from. Coz it makes everyone feel at home.
We have become your ardent fans after seeing your beautiful videos during the lockdown.
Your diction and way of presentation is class, awaiting more videos from you
I can bet ...This is the best place you've visited and enjoyed best among all your videos kripal ji..
Thank you very much . . You're actually very truthful in your videos. 💝🙏🙏
I also bet you never actually liked the hyderabadi biryani at all..😲🤣🤣🤣

The real taste of food being elaborate when it properly defined. That what this restaurant provides.
Great presentation.. 👍👍
Being Kerala vegetarian u tempted me with choru
Hi Sir, Thanks for showing these Innovative Restaurants which is taking Hotel Business to another level. Antique Cutlery's impressed 🤗🤗🤗
Lovely presentation.....
from Kozhikode💐💐💐💐ishtam🍬🍬🍬
Kripal,
You seem to be having a field day devouring all Mapla cuisine.
A suggestion,..…Carry your own huge round dining table 🤣🤣
We are not able to see all that is on the table.
Kerala dishes do not use un necessay chilli powder and I am happy to see natural coloured dishes.
This is in sharp contrast to Punjabi dishes where only dark red colour rules.
Enjoying your videos.
😊🙏
Best of Kerala series in my understanding!!! I guess Kerala tourism department should add adaminte chayakada to the must visit places 😂
BTW do they have anything for vegetarians ??
Thank you, JH, happy you liked the episode. With respect to your query, I found that Malabar cuisine is more pre-disposed towards non vegetarian dishes.
Food Lovers TV yeah sir I have noticed it in limited areas I have travelled .. always ended up with Saadya.. 😁
Thanks for replying 🙏
They have some in Adaminte Chayakada, but not much and not that interesting. Malabar Cusinie is heavily Non-Veg oriented and the place is filled with heavy aroma of Chicken, Fish and Beef which may not be suitable for hardcore veggies. There are very few veg items... But the fact is, if you look their menu (even the English Printed one) hardly you can make anything out of it, as its full of unique Malayalam Lingo and puzzling words to name each dish. So you need to ask them. Some like Biriyani, they can make it veg...And some veg snacks too. Not much of main course. But its an experience NOT TO BE MISSED while in Kozhikode for Non veggies, particular Chicken lovers...
Just on the side of Adaminte Chayakada, there is a classic Brahmins Veg hotel where you get regular veg meals, dosa, idili etc. Very popular for its veg meals...
Arun Mohan well it’s after seeing all the ambiance and the presentation of the dishes I felt the urge visit n check this place .. was thinking if nothing else , at least I should visit for some chai 😁 but thanks for mentioning I would try some veg biriyani .. just to experience this incredible place
Definitely, the ambience was unique at adaminte chayakkad. Presentation was cool.
After watching this video, I happily ate my plain rice and dal and kissed my wife for her wonderful preparation.
welcome to Kerala Kripal ikka
Should try local economy hotels. I always love to taste in small hotels where the price will also be less and tastes unique too.
Anupama Surendran exactly what I’ve been telling him! It’s the small quaint outlets run for generations is where the food tastes the best! Even when we stay in resorts, we get out, explore the place & have food from small local hotels that serves authentic local food!
These new outlets are just glamourised versions of local food, that lack consistency, nor do they give importance to customer service!
I’ll give you an example..
We eat at this small hotel often in thuravoor, cherthala which serves authentic naadan oonu.. it’s hot in there, with no a/c with just fans.. but extremely crowded & it’s run by a family.. it starts filling up, before they start serving food, but as soon as people start seating, you can see the servers moving extra fast in the kitchen prepping the food, and letting the customers know, they’ll start serving shortly.. they understand that you don’t make a guest wait to be served food! It’s endearing to see their dedication towards their customers or food lovers who go there! New restaurants lack personal touch, it’s only business!
You need to visit kannur, kochi, Alappuzha (alappey) Kottayam
Traditional red Kerala fish curry with pulli 😋
Yummy foods
You should try naypathiri and chicken curry
I have that same radio 😍🤩
Kozhikkodan & Malabar
Special Avilmilk 😎❤️
I love your videos sir 😘
I suggest u should too open a restaurant now
I'd like to see him travelling and tasting rather than be in just 1 place.
What to do say?
Its my conviction no one elaborates the food as kripal Sir does hat's off to you sir.

Hi sir
What is the name of the Rice they serve in Kerala?
It’s either the Palakkadan Matta or Kuruva rice that I tasted in Kozhikode. And for biryani, it’s usually the aromatic Jeerakasala or Kaima rice.
Thank you. Kuruwa is a white rice variety?
@@harshtripathi3554 it's a red rice variety.
What was the name of the white rice you ate at Amma Hotel, Kozhikode with fish.

food wise, a very dismally performing restaurant. basically surviving on its gimmicky show and acts. would rather say its a confusion than a fusion. I visited the place multiple times to be disappointed constantly. Just saying.

Have to say the name of these dishes are so funny and weird at the the same time..
Mr GOTR, ur showcasing food which is not affordable to a normal person and ur videos will not reach to more people coz of ur selective foods which is more costly, however the same kind of are available in normal hotel which is more tastier than ur food, so please look into it ,try to showcase more local food in normal hotels ☺️👍

Hi Shankar, appreciate your perspective. Most of the dining experiences that we show are very accessible to most people in terms of price points. I am extremely conscious about this aspect. However as a food explorer, we need to showcase food across all segments. Cheers!

I have been watching your videos since the beginning..n have enjoyed most of the them. However I failed to understand why do you need to repeatedly mention the restaurant name. Especially in this video..it got to a point where it began to get irritating. Also I have noticed that you make extra effort to get the local names correct ( which is good) when you are covering areas outside Karnataka but Don't do the same with the state..for instance calling thindi beedi instead of beedhi or calling dose as dosa. Hope to see the changes in your next video. Till then cheers from Ireland
Hi Arundhathi, guess we get carried away at times. And we do try to get the pronunciation right. Appreciate your comment. Glad you enjoy our work.
