After years of gawking over this revolver at gun shops, I FINALLY got one. Though I originally wanted one in .454 Casul im glad I got .44 mag. I had no idea at the time but .44 mag is pretty expensive ammo, no wonder everyone reloads it. I'm not a ruger fan really, but this wheel gun is just beautiful to me.
I carry mine all of the time both IWB and OWB. I also have a nice comfortable shoulder rig for it. My reason for carrying it is being certain of no return fire coming back at me. I shoot it very often and well. You learn to master this gun and it will be an awesome defense weapon. Next best thing to carrying a 12 gauge.
This and the S&W 686-6 357 Magnum are my favorites. I love the big “boom.”
Reasons to have the Ruger Super RedHawk Alaskan:
1- Camping
2- Hunting
3- Home Protection
3- Versatility (can shoot less power full/less expensive .44 special)
4- Accuracy (shoots 2" groups at 25 Yards). Reliability/Durability/Quality/Power etc...
precisionmarksman 5- it's a blast to shoot!
+precisionmarksman 44 specials are more expensive than magnums,,,,,......
Number 3 is bullshit.
I have this exact piece. It is the prize of my collection. It will never decrease in value. It feels great in the hand. It is very well made, solid, crisp trigger pull. The stock grips are excellent but there are aftermarket ones if you prefer wood. Fiber optic front sight might be the only reasonable modification. If you’re on the fence about a purchase...do it😏
I've carried it IWB all day and have often forgotten it was even with me. I've also carried it in my pocket. I just don't get how people trash this as impractical or just plain unwieldy. and the 44 is just a satisfying cartridge to shoot. I guess you're born for it or not.
Maybe it's maybelline
Carrying a gun like this makes my dick feel bigger 😁
Super redhawks are the most beautiful snub nose revolvers on the planet. JMO
No doubt. I want it.
@@alanspurlock just bought one, beautiful revolver
Agreed
I'm a bee keeper I have the .44 Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan for black bears raiding my bee yard, (16 hives) (bears find a bee yard they will keep coming back).
I put up an electric fence after bears destroyed 6 hives. But they keep coming back prowling for a way in. The fence has kept them out for now. Lots of trail camera pics of bear(s) prowling the property.
The bee yard is about 150 feet from my house, (thought I could protect the hives better having it close by) in the center of a circle driveway out in bear country.
The wife and I have both walked out of the house and been surprised by 250 lb - 300 lb black bears. To date they run off when encountered but you never know when one might decide to charge.
Think I might get the .454 for me and let the wife have the .44
What if them bears is wearing them body armor?
I have the Alaskan in .454 Casull, it also takes .45 Long Colt. Both are mighty impressive.
I love the perfect circle of fire when it shoots...beast
I like the looks of this over the model 29. I bought one, and like you I wanted one forever, like 10 years. I have large hands and this fits my my grip perfectly without modifications.
So beautiful, what a piece of jewelry that is. Be thankful you got one. Its on my wish list.
I have the same gun and love it. I don't care if its practical, when I squeeze off one at the range, everyone stops and stares. When my wife shoots it I use 44 specials but she has shot the magnums. My arm hurts after running a couple of cylinders but the grip really tames the recoil so my hand is fine. I've shot the S&W 29 and agree that the Smith is a better looking gun but I think the trigger and feel of the Super Redhawk Alaskan is better. Watch your rear sight, my adjustment has moved in the past. This is a gun you really should reload for. The factory ammo is very expensive.
Good review, i have the alaskan in .454, but i got it when i was stationed in Alaska. Its not a gun you just get, it does have a purpose. Now if u just want to collect it thats cool. And even though I'm not in Alaska anymore, i still go hiking and camping. I also have a glock 20 10mm. But be warned if u get one u must practice. But i would not get rid of it if i were u, dude go hiking and camping, put it to use, u never know when u may need it!
Harlem139Convent1 my Alaskan 44 mag my home protection
It's the MOST beautiful revolver I've ever seen! My favorite gun. Note, it is SATIN stainless, NOT that ugly matte stainless Smith uses lately.
I agree.
.357 is great for the northeast hiking, but .44 magnum is definitely going to be my go-to West of the continental divide.
I really want this model badly, but for my purposes this be a novelty item!
My favorite of my collection!
Mine turned out to be a very solidly built revolver that's built like a tank. The lockup and timing is good. It's a very hefty wheel gun and pleasant to shoot when using 44 special ammo. The overall fit and finish is really good. I like the grip a lot just the way it comes from the factory. This is definitely one of those guns that can last a lifetime. A very sexy revolver
no talk of the double action trigger
Put some .44 Special +P rounds in it for the wife. and I carried a Ruger Super Redhawk .44 Mag 7.5" for years without any problem.
Lol! The hind site every gun owner feels at least once. "Why did I buy this?"
For home defense I would stick to the 44 specials. I have the S&W 629 and this beauty and I agree...I'll look at the Smith and shoot the Ruger. Thanks for a good honest review!
DrDante221 hey bud 44 mag in ruger Alaskan I shoot federal 44 mag 240 gr Jhp and only getting 1,052 FPS and 567 ftlbs energy from short barrel and 16 inch penetration in gel
It can be used as conceal carry, with the right holster and with today's highly designed technology the 44mg is an option, plus the super Ruger Redhawk can also fire the 44spl another good self defense cartridge, people before polimere steel conceal carry handguns was a norm you just get use to carrying with a good well made holster its just fine.
Huge fan of big bore rifles 45-70. Now buying Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan .44 Rem mag / Buffalo Bore 340grain +P+. The frame is insanely rugged.👍🤠🦖
Very nice pistol !
MyHollowpoint YESS SIR... I HAVE OWNED 2 OF THESE LITTLE PUMPKINS.... THERE A FINE PISTOL... IM 58 YEARS OLD NOW AND HAVE BEEN SHOOTING THEM FOR 10 yrs... RECOIL IS MODERATE... MY WIFE SHOOTS IT ALSO... SHE CAN SHOOT A 45 ACP WITH LESS EFFORT AND MORE COMFORT, BUT HEY ITS NOT BAD.... WITH AGE AND INJURY'S TO MY BODY I COULD BE DOWN SIZING TO THE 357 RUGER BUT HOPING TO GET A FEW MORE YEARS OF 44 ACTION IN... I HAVE OWNED TAURUS 44 - S&W 44 AND SEVERAL DIFFERENT RUGER 44 mags.... l really think Ruger 44 Mag is a high quality Revolver... lts built very Strong.... And is Recommended for +P Ammo.... OTHERS are NOT... GOOD CHOICE IN A 44 MAG.
I've seen it referred to as a "Hand Cannon"
Love mine in .44 Mag
I don't care if I never use it. I own one of the most beautifully made guns i've ever seen. And by the way, I carry it in a comfortable custom made leather shoulder rig. If you are going to carry an elite weapon like this, then spend the money on a high quality holster. Also, an "Uncle Mike's" IWB soft pocket holster is very comfortable and doesn't weight you down. I don't even feel like i'm carrying such a heavy gun with it. It is a great self defense revolver because you have the option of using 44 Specials. Learn to use it well like you're supposed to do and it won't be too over kill to carry. Practice Practice Practice!
You are correct. One case for all revolvers.
Galco may have a shoulder holster for it❓
i like your honesty...i want one too...but i know after i get one...i would regret buying it...plus 850 is alot of dough
I wish I carried that when I was a patrolman.
beauty! meant for Alaska though. for when you want to feel safe that one or two shots will do without carrying a literal cannon
Hmmmmm
If you still have it, and still like it
Consider the option of packing a simple round ball of bore size,,into the case mouth ,,crimp it, on top of some slow burn powder ,,,
No recoil, puts hole in targets,
If there is a lot of unburned powder residue, add less powder and more corn mea fillerl to take up any empty space,,,
Other wise trade up to a 454 casull, to fire 45 long colt, the same round ball idea, and 454 for any future bigger stuff.
Excellent Choice my friend
I baught the kodiak backpacker but i still want an alaskan 😍 maybe ill just get the alaskan in 454 casull
it'll make a fine range pistol if you re-load it. i have a 7 1/2" super redhawk and i load light. recoil like a 38. my 'boxes' of 50 only cost me about $8-10 vs what 40 something off the shelf. 44 is fantastic for the range, as long as you can afford the ammo, reloading is the way to go.
This gun and the S&W 686-6 357 Magnum are my favorites. I love the big “boom.” It’s great for bear, moose, and two legged predators alike. It’s one of those guns you get just to celebrate The Second Amendment. “Why did you get it? Because I can.”
I bought a 7.5 inch in 454 had it cut down by Magnaport and carry it when I hike in NW Montana
That would be the first thing I would do is get rid of those grips you can get the Ruger GP 100 grips with the wood inserts. They look a lot better.
Fantastic video ! I have the same model , i can buy ammo for it at any gun store thats what sold me
One of the best hunting sidearm made today.
My main complaint..the use of a adjustable rear sight. Not needed for 5 seconds of drawing down on a pissed off animal or home evader.
As for construction..strap on top of cylinder is the strongest yet.
Imo I don’t understand why people complain about the box a gun comes in. You’re not using the box to shoot somebody and most people keep there pistol in the safe or bedside table
Yes, this is definitely a super THICK revolver... And it weighs as much as my 6" barrel S&W 686! But it's very strong - you can fire +P+ loads through it.
Man after my own heart, I too love revolvers. And depending on the revolver, you do not necessarily take a performance hit. Grab yourself a Smith & Wesson .357, and see if you can't shoot it as well as a Glock 9. Getting off rounds just as fast, and with just as much accuracy, no problem, I guarantee it. But yes, of all the revolvers, in my mind this is the most beautiful. Other than this, in my mind, the only thing that even comes close is a Mateba Unica. Personally I like the Matebas with four or six inch barrels, black bluing, and a 4000 grit, sanded wood handle. You have excellent taste brother!
LMFAO you love guns and have a picture of Sleeper Joe
Did you keep it? Still a must have for me. But I feel the same
let me know when you try that "tossing out the whindow" bit. I want to be ready with a catcher's mit(and a face mask in case I miss the catch)
Nice man, congrats
The 1911 is a big pistol and heavy but no one ever complain about it being to heavy or bulky.no because Americans love it and be free to carry the firearm of your choice.i myself is not a fan of fire arms but I do like the gun videos.
I have one. Like all of the Ruger revolvers they are built like tanks. This gun is no fun to shoot. It hurts. But, it will do the job, so if you get one, get used to the recoil and then feel comfort that you can stop a bear or a V8
Stop whining about recoil !
Geese !
Those damn geese are always whining aren't they
im looking for a good carry consiel weapon...leaning towards this
Try shooting 44 spl in it the recoil is a lot less
I have a female coworker that uses 44 Special 125 Grain Xtreme Defenders in this same gun. She said she feels safe with this gun under her pillow.
Haven’t heard from PersonalDfense channel in a few years. Is he OK?
ya the 454 casul is expensive
Nice rings of frie
Do you know if you get Barrel extensions for that 2 inch barrel
Shoulder rig, bud.
I want one in 480 ruger, but that's very far down on my list. we will c if I ever get it.
redneckmini14 I keep struggling with whether I should go 454 or 480.
454 pros: biggest fireballs in its weight class, can be cut for 45 acp moon clips.
480 pros: heaviest bullets in its weight class, heavy bullets tend to get more out of short barrels, widest bullet in its weight class... but no plinking option, no light carry option.
any thoughts?
i dont know enough about the subject to give u an answer. i just like the big heavy bullet of the 480 ruger. good bear gun.
454 is actually more powerful and you can use different shells. 480 is a one trick pony compared to the 454. I own one in a 44 magnum.
Actually, I don't believe a longer barrel "builds" pressure, it actually looses pressure because as the bullet travels down the barrel the gas expands which "drops" the pressue, thus a longer barrel has less recoil for that reason with and also the addition weight helps as well.
when a gun fires the powder doesn't explode it burns. longer barrel gives the powder longer to burn and build pressure. there is a point of diminishing returns though and it completely depends on the type of powder used.
Use it as a boat anchor 😂
21magnum bicep curls with this bad boy! 💪😂
Fire Double Action
nice gun
Dump it. You dont really need it. I want(ed) one too, but after watching your vid i realized - o yeah, don't need it..So, like you I would have added to my collection, but it would just sit in the safe forever. Thanks for the great vid. :)
Bear Defense!
I love mine. My only revolvers I own now are this and a Colt King Cobra.
As far as practicality,... I can understand your opinion. This is definitely not the best edc gun for me because as they say,.." a small caliber on you is better than the .44 you left home"(or something along those lines).
I love that I have this amount of power that I can conceal carry or OWB under a jacket to hide it. This gun makes my penis seem a little bigger to me.
How do you like your King Cobra? I'm looking at one of the newer models but I see all sorts of negative reviews about customer service and whatnot.
@@wingnutmcspazatron3957 mine is the newer version. I love it.
Pause at 1:37 for "Lord of the Rings"
Not all Alaskans have the 2" barrel. There's the Alaskan Toklat.
Yep, it has the 5 inch, i like the feel of the alaskan. With 2.5 inch better though.
"You can also use it as a boat anchor" 😂😂😂
I own one as well. It's good for it's intended purpose of predator defense and.....okay not much else. But it is fun to shoot. I still have the Ruger but moved to a Glock 29 for a pack gun. A hot 10mm round will drop about any mammal in North America, and I find the Glock much easier to manage while being much lighter and compact. But the Ruger wins for looks.
Perfect for bears, and werewolves.
Sell it to me!
What's "practical"? Any gun made by a competent gunsmith that I want, can afford, can shoot, and handle with confidence. Another person's opinion of practicality really doesn't mean a lot to me, my wants or needs, as far as I'm concerned.
I'd get rid of it if I were you (if you haven't already) and buy a conventional "boat anchor". You don't seem to appreciate it for what it is. And, quite frankly, your tone of uncertainty on virtually every point you discuss, makes it sound like it's too much gun for you anyway.
I have it in .480 Ruger. To my way of thinking, that's even more practically "practicaller".
Don't forget, it's a 6-shooter. Just in case.
44 mag sure fire man killer, not a sure fire BEAR KILLER. Be careful !!!!
With proper shot placement it will do just fine.
Work for home defense,I can speak first hand on this
ok.......left thumb over right and use weak hand thumb to cock hammer.......however , at that distance you should be using double action anyway........
Want to sell it to me?
You're mic doesn't soften the sound of the shooting. You flipping back and forth between talking and shooting is annoying as hell. Talk then shoot.
Ofcourse, it is a novelty gun. But it rules! Carry it here and there, enjoy it. Please remove those disgusting Hogue grips, get wood. Keep it forever or i'll take it.
Idk what the fuck you're talking about, those grips fit my hand flawlessly.
You sound wishy-washy. You don't deserve that revolver.
Funny 😁
Id buy it off you if you dont want if 😉
If u are not a big game hunter, or Hike in the North West, then this is a useless weapon that will sit in the safe. Then It will be sold for a lot less.
bronxboy2141 maybe a property owner would find this useful. I would feel safer if i had this running into trespassers doing God knows what on my property.
What's with the socialist band music intro?
