Mike- I suggest you charge your consultation (small fee $39 or 49) for 30 minutes to ensure you do not have too many people who just want to get free information and have no interest in signing up with you. Worked out great for me so far even though you do have to risk of lower # of consultations but way better candidates. Calendly links with the payment option as well for clients to pay beforehand.

Thanks for the tips! I don't think I realized that calendly did that.

Congrats Mike! You got it started. I love small business. I was employed at a small business for 34 years. I really felt appreciated. The owners were great.
Over the 34 years, we had only two accountants. The first one retired and that is when we changed. We were well taken care of.

Thanks Dave! That is awesome. I’m becoming a big fan of small businesses Myself not because I have one but because I find that many small businesses owners are nice down to earth people

Yup! those points are right on target. I went into private practice several years ago as a psychotherapist and went through the same exact process as you. Except then got too much work which demands setting boundaries, and was completely overwhelmed, which you may have already experienced that.... it is alot of wor to start a business. Just be sure to set limits to prevent total burnout. Great video.

Thank you Elsa, really appreciate your input. There have been several times where I have felt overwhelmed already. I needed to hear that.

Congratulations on a successful start to your business.
and here I was thinking I was the only working half days and 8 days a week. Talk about working A Hard Day’s Night.
It’s been a brutal tax season and now a bit of relief
still a lot of extensions. Half of me says it’s harder because I’m older, the other half of me says it’s the tremendous work load I have. And yet the half says Government isn’t making it any easier.
I don’t have to advertise. I have enough work. I’m always getting a call saying a client recommended me to you. Sometimes I almost cringe. I can be selective in taking on new clients. Probably a good problem to have.
After Hurricane Katrina, I had to do a lot of the billing and still today I do that. I bill business clients at the end of the month and tax return clients when I finish their return. I’ve even started to take Venmo as more and more people pay that way. Adapting to new ways. Oh did I mention cash still works. Haha.
My Grandfather had my dad and my dad had me
.Me, my kids chose the nursing field. đŸ˜„đŸ˜„đŸ˜„
I don’t have an exit strategy. One day someday.
In the meantime I enjoy meeting my clients, working with them. I also use my clients when I need them. New wooden floors. a newly paved driveway, plumbing, construction, etc. It’s nice to have clients.
I got a lot of old school in me, I can remember posting the ledger by hand, footing and balancing,oh and running an adding machine tape to make sure the ledger balanced
and doing a bank rec’s by adding machine tape. Of course doing tax returns by hand. I certainly wouldn’t try that today. Makes you appreciate what we have today.
I share this as an appreciation to your videos. I can so relate to them. Maybe you can take one thing I say here and develop into your business. You share your ideas and this is my way of sharing my experiences to you.
I do miss your investment videos. I know they will come again.
Thanks again Mike. You are doing great. Keep it up.

Dan, I cannot thank you enough for sharing your experiences. Regarding selling a practice I have started receiving listings of several small firms in the area where I live whom are selling off their practice, because they are wanting to retire. Have you spoke with any brokers?

    • @1DansBlues
      @1DansBlues Pƙed 2 lety

@@MoneyandLifeTV No I have not contacted anyone. Turning 60 later this year, I never thought about retirement before til Covid hit. Since then it seems everything his gotten harder to comply with. PPP Loans/Forgiveness, then payroll tax credits. Then the 1040 where is that post card tax return??? Instead we now have 3 schedules.
I’m not ready to retire and there is still a drive in me. Always looking at my Financials and wanting to compare to last year. I know it’s in our blood lines.
My GF and dad had a man that worked for them back in the 60’s and 70’s, he went out on his own. Well he died in ‘18 and I inherited a good bit of his clients. I say he left me in his will. He left me a wealth of work. Well 4+ years that has taken its toll.
Thanks again for your interest. You share yours through these videos and mine in the response. Glad I have came across your videos. It’s great to know you.
