- JuJu Smith-Schuster was not carted off the field after taking a huge hit and showing a fencing response. Why wasn't he carted off like when we last saw this with Tua Tagovailoa?

That really cleared that up for me because I thought they put Tua on the backboard just cause he was knocked out and wasn’t awake and JuJu was awake and aleta so he could walk off
thanks so much for explaining things so clearly and concisely-as always! i hope JuJu is able to make a full recovery
Love JuJu's game . Hope he recovers completely.
I have learned a lot about these injuries from you but even better what to watch for, thank you.
Thank you for sharing
✌️🙏🤗
Thanks for all you do!❤
Thank you very much. I never really thought about the different protocol. For a layman it just seemed like the decision of the medical staff but after watching the video it all makes perfect sense. Thanks Doc.
Thank you for the video !
Thanks, that was very helpful.
He describes things perfectly, makes you look at it diffrent from a Dr's perspective.
That was so hard to watch. When the fingers start "fencing" is so scary
Posturing not fencing
@@kcschroeder3196 what's fencing?
Id rather see that than see his legs get amputated
@@joelmora2826 fencing is a more extreme version of posturing where everything goes straight and ridged. Not bent and ridged like this
@@kcschroeder3196 Anyway, here’s a pubmed article with posturing and fencing being used pretty interchangeably and I’m pretty sure that’s because the severity of head trauma can’t be determined precisely from just looking at the initial response to the trauma
Prayers for Juju. These head injuries are so scary. I guess if you love football, which I do, you have to accept this is part of the game, which I find so difficult. Then no penalty for the hit on Juju. Thanks Doc Brian…
I love football too, but I want better helmets. I don't care how stupid they look, so long as they prevent concussions.
@@myblacklab7 It's impossible to prevent them. Two athletes running into each other at full speed (20 mph each) is equal to one of them going 40mph into a brick wall. When that happens, it's not the helmet not doing it's job. The helmet is protecting the skull. What causes the concussion, is the momentum of the brain inside the skull, keeps moving and the brain smushes and rattles around inside the players skull smashing into the skull coming to a instant stop. Think of it like a seat belt when you crash. The seat belt stops you from flying out the window. But doesn't and can't stop you from wanting to lurch forward from momentum and break your ribs/collarbone in the process.
The same way your body wants to lurch forward in a car accident when the car comes to an immediate stop. Your brain does the same thing inside your head. When a hit like this happens. The head stops but the brain keeps moving. A helmet isn't going to stop that from happening.
@@gregoryhicks7640 I used to play a lot of backyard football, and although we might not have reached 20 mph, we were close to that.
I loved hard hits and went full-out, yet never got a concussion playing football. In fact, I don't remember anyone getting a concussion, and we didn't even wear helmets.
There are plenty of full-on hits that don't result in concussions, and concussions always seem to happen when a player is hit in the head, and never when a player does not receive a blow to the head.
@@myblacklab7 well yea I played football for seven years and never got a concussion but that’s just luck of the draw. But it is impossible to make a Helmet to stop all of footballs hardest hits to fully protect from concussion because you can’t pad the inside of someone’s skull. But they have made great improvements you can only go so far though. The reason head hits are the concussion ones is because the helmets have been developed so good but getting hit in the helmet means the helmet can do it’s job as we because it’s the source of contact and acceleration on your body causing possible concussion or neck injury.
@@staypuft24 What about a helmet that can break apart like NASCAR cars? That'd look spectacular, and also maybe prevent injuries.
Hi Brian, just thought I'd pop by and mention that Amine Harit's injury looked gnarly, might be a good one for a video
Ahh. Thank you. That makes a lot of sense when someone takes them time to explain it.
You are on it! Recording videos on a dime!
Why wouldn't you just want to assume the worst in a head/neck injury anyways though? It's a very sensitive injury location. It doesn't hurt to take people off on a cart just in case.
Idk. Ask the med staff
Did you even watch the video… they assume the worst until they have no reason to
@@kristopherwilson506 I did. Did you read my question? Why not assume the worst regardless of circumstances? Medical professionals make mistakes all the time.
@@Azikkii I see where you are coming from for sure. However, as heartless as it sounds, assuming the worst for any injury in any situation is a huge waste of resources. In a perfect world that’s what we would do, and I wish we could but sadly we’re not yet.
Maybe it’s not covered by insurance, lol
thanks briam!
Could you make a video on why in combat sports, a fighter is able to get stunned or dazed and continue fighting? Whereas in the NFL if you’re stumbling after a hit you’re likely done for the day
Because their job is to continue fighting until the referee ends the fight.
They train so much it becomes muscle memory. Their body will continue fighting even if their brain doesn’t know where they are
Well I learn something new everyday nice vid
Doctor, thank you for your extremely helpful insights.
You catch it all man.
Bengals fan here.I miss how JuJu made the Steelers a rivalry. What a great personality he has.I hate seeing hits that hard. That was scary.Speedy recovery for you JuJu!!!
That’s how he burfict 😮😮
Smacked my boy burfict just like that, glad it came back around.
@@jeffriggins9106 stfu burfict deserved every bit of it that was not karma burfict is a shitty human
Have you or will you do a video on LAFCs goalie?
Possible video idea. They say turf causes more injuries then grass, is there anything medically that can be explained? Torque on the knees, impact? Load? Strain? Stress? Or am I asking the wrong profession?
Engineering!
Can you do a video on Leonard Fournette and his hip pointer injury??
they use to say in football practice i remember “ooooo he got stuck” this makes it seem literal
can you look in amine harit injury that occurred yesterday in the monaco and marseille match
Do a video on Zach Ertz next
Can you do an analysis on amine harit injury? He is a soccer player, the injury was gruesome
Steelers fan here. We miss JuJu and wish him the best.
😢🖤
Hey briand could you amine harits knee dislocation he is a soccer player in France he injured himself yesterday
Can u do Maxime Crépeau injury plz
Such a beautiful hit !!

Who is that
@@kingquay7061 MMA champion who passed away earlier today due to a very rare disease majority of people never heard of
Hate that I had to hear about this from your comment. He was one of the OG UFC fighters back when I use to watch religiously.
@@DrugsAreBadMmkay Never won Championship but he was one of the greats. Had he not been sick he may have gone on to win a bellator championship as he had to pull out of thay due to illness. He seemed like he was an all around good human being. He will be missed by many fans.
I'm confused. You say Tua was carted off because he likely didn't answer the questions. But you also said that players aren't carted off for brain injuries, they are carted off for spinal injuries. Wouldn't it be the case that they would test for the player to articulate their extremities (on their own) if it was a suspected back or spine injury?
when Tua was being questioned he wasn't alert enough to really engage with the questioning and testing, so the medical staff played it safe and assumed there was a potential neck/spine injury, in addition to the concussion, because they couldn't rule any out.
Yes, just like Spartan said if they aren't alert and can't rule out a neck or spine injury then they must assume there is potential damage to it. So carting them off is a safety precaution more than anything. It doesn't guarantee there is a spinal injury, but is used to prevent further damage. Since Juju was awake he was able to tell them he still had feeling and sensation in his body and could move without neck pain which is why they were able to have him walk off the field.
All makes sense
I remember when Snickers made a commercial making fun of this type of injury by the player saying "I'm Batman!" Anybody remember that? Sad it was made fun of and is so serious now.
So... there's really no way to tell if he's sustained a brain injury😕
A person can respond after a seizure, but that doesn't mean they know what's really going on. That's why the body shut down or in their case seize up - it's telling to brain to reset.
Can you do a video of a lacerated kidney ( eagles saftey)
Still seems a little problematic that you are relying on someone’s answers to questions who has a obvious brain injury. Athletes almost always want to say they are okay no matter what almost on reflex.
a lot of what medical staff are looking for isn't necessarily the answers to the questions but for how the patient responds to them.
@@utubchnnl it's better to leave policy making for the trained medical experts
Juja Smithson-Schumer is a legend
For the Algo!
One is a franchise QB that will lead his team to multiple Super Bowl's and the other is a WR, thats why.
So how long he out for?
probably just next week
Why are you not hired by the NFL
That was a clean hit, whereas the one on Chris Olave was a textbook example of targeting.
No reason not to backboard.
Having two players carted off of the field after very scary injuries where “fencing” motions were displayed would likely be a bad look for the NFL
eh it's just that kind of sport, the bad look would be if those players get inadequate care and are reinjured immediately, aka what happened to Tua. injuries, including brain injuries, are sadly just a part of the game and always will be. best we can do is keep investing in better care for the athletes as well as better gear and better technique to reduce injury risk.
I saw this play and screamed…. The Refs threw a flag and took it back saying No Flag For Unnecessary Roughness… WTF….
yeah the lack of penalty on that play was WILDLY INACCURATE. like, damn
It wouldn’t be UR. It would be defenseless receiver or helmet to helmet
JJS will be fast-tracked through the protocol, practice on Wednesday, and be declared perfectly fine to play the next game, I'm calling it now.
Nope. Out for the game. Im calling it now.
Bengals: we made tua throw up gang signs bozo
When I saw that hit, I immediately thought Tua. How could that have NOT been helmet to helmet?
Cuz it wasn't. There's other things a helmet can bounce off of other than a helmet. Every head injury isn't automatically helmet to helmet Moron.
I was at the game. The refs were garbage all day.
Do Anthony rumble johnson death explain
Is he gonna talk about that herp on his lip?
how many times has he woken up and got scared by just a random skeleton standing there when he sleeps on the sofa behind him
lol I don’t sleep on the sofa in my office
bro throwing some gang signs right there
Burfect would be proud lmao
Where does this response come from? The brains way of telling the body we are in danger? And need to be in this position?
That's the sign of "He got knocked the fuck out".
Andre Cisco was putting everyone in the hospital that day. 🤣🤣
Cisco needs to be suspended for that hit. Or someone in his next game takes out his knee. No place for that dirty hit
why do certain athletes seem to be cursed with injuries? like AB was
Wow they ask for orientation 😆 imagine being knocked out and answering dat wrong 😅
The fact the refs didn't call this targeting is infuriating, and then the same player made a similar hit a couple plays later on another reciever.
the sad truth is this man will probably never have a shortage of content to make :/
Ok ok so that”fencing response” is a FORM of “posturing”. Correct?
So Juju was coherent enuff not to add a board.
Extremely dirty hit.
I hate they didn't call the penalty, especially as a Chiefs fan, blatant helmet-to-helmet contact.
Yup 100% and look at Herbert getting hit about an hour ago and not only was there a penalty but they ejected the player. IMO that hit didn’t even deserve a penalty
Not a chief fan!! Definitely should had been penalized
@@johnsangines9470 If you rewatch the clip from other angles, Juju actually leads his helmet into the side of Cisco's head, who's lowering his shoulder. Juju knocks himself out more than anything.
@@WhiskyChordata and Juju did not see him.
Sorry but JJ lead with his head and Cisco lead with his shoulder.
NFL should be sued
Should’ve been a flag
Ju Ju Simp-Schuster
Do you agree that the NFL and its PA made a good decision to add ataxia to its no-go section of its concussion protocol?
What's your orientation?: "I'm gay. I mean I'm straight! Shit!"
"What's your orientation?"? What does sexuality have to do with this injury?
🤣😜 Thank you, thank you! I'll be here all week, folks! Try the veal. Don't forget to tip your server!😜🤣
I see so many players not wearing their mouth guard. It just dangles off their helmet and I have the same reaction when I see people without a seatbelt. Dummy. Shouldn't the NFL address this as a major safety violation or are they really not as important as we were led to believe?
I wear safety glasses in my everyday life. I work in a shop so I’m always taking them on and off and then when they are off Is when some random little things happens that goes right in my eye! So now I wear them all the time. If I was football player I’d 💯 wear that safety equipment! Side note: there is no reason to wear a Covid mask while in a car by yourself. It’s November 2022 people…#freethemask!
We have the opportunity to stop watching NFL games all together and simply not give them our money. Stop buying tickets, jerseys, hats.
Vote with your money!
I thought this was common sense
Couldn't have happened to a better person. Lol
The casuals calling this dirty lmao
I’m just concerned about him having a dumb name. That worries me.
They want to focus on player safety they have to eject Cisco for that head to head hit totally uncalled for and he did it again 2 plays later.
you do not know ball. Cisco led with his shoulder on both plays, Juju lowers his head into the right side of Cisco's head and KO's himself. The second play was a clean shoulder to break the ball up. Just stop lmao
prayers for juju but idk why everyone was saying that wasnt a clean hit that was a pretty clean hit in my eyes

Some of these are staged can't tell me different.
That's why I love yankee's sports, the people just earn some money to kill/die!!!
Improper fitting helmets. I wore my helmet and little tight. Definitely took both hands to take off. These guys helmets are too loose imo. Get well JuJu. #GoChiefs
The problem is that they're not running a Bill Walsh Offense!!! They should've never run Juju over the middle like that Anyway!!! The Late Dwight Clark talked about this years ago. He basically said that when in Zone coverage, just catch the ball, and go down!!! Because the safety is just waiting to Lay you out!!! The Chiefs put Juju in a BAD sp
Spot.
The difference is ju ju is not a QB
really hope that boy okay and doesnt miss much time. Im already out mike williams and keenan allen.
The game for boars.
Juju got hit in the head, head to head but tua got slammed by a linemen a linemen dog and ur saying juju took a bigger hit then tua?
He shoulda made a tik tok when he got hit.
Dirty hit. Intentional hit to the head
This is becoming too common the nfl gotta change the rules and technology for helmet protection
Edit: alright I see what you guys are saying but the rules was pertaining to equipment and how they're made as well as concussion management
It's football and these are grown men. They knew what they signed up for and it wasn't flag football
They’ve already changed the rules enough, this isn’t flag football it’s a violent game. There’s only so much that can be done with the helmets the only additional thing they can do, which was tried in training camps, is add cover called a guardian cap. The players hated them, it makes the helmets bigger and it’s already big and heavy enough. The best solution to concussions would be to remove helmets altogether but we’re so far past that possibility.
@@jdaily2293 nigga really said remove helmets. Would be worse than a concussion
Cause no one likes Juus
Because the NFL SUCKS, that's why.
