There is no controversy in my opinion. It is another tool in an experienced Fisherman's tool box. It works!

The east coasters use harnesses..we use the rail. I equate it to rifle hunting vs bow hunting.

Sounds good...we're trying hard to deliver some entertainment, learning from the best in the fleet and highlighting some really great operations out of San Diego. Hope you hang around and spread the word.

I invented a handle for fighting on the rail! It has worked great so far on a bunch of Atlantic yft, seriously need to test it on the west coast! If you guys would use it I’d send you one!

On fish up to 350 I never had any problems with stand up gear is plate and but harness and they stabilize the rod and reel better

Try putting the rod on the right side and hold the reel with your left hand. Far more stable!

I think what's comfortable is most appropriate. I feel as you do (reel on the right side); however, I've watched a lot of vids where the captains, deck hands, and fishermen all say to do it as he does. I feel as if I have more cranking power if I do it as you have described. I'll have to go test out a few methods to see what's most comfortable.
