    Thanks for posting this mate. I absolutely loved this beer. Only just finished the keg and I'm planning to make it again asap. I'm new to all grain and really appreciate the detail in this video. Helped me through the whole brew day.

    Great video Gav. you can't beat the counterflow chiller, I cool the wort the same way in the Grainfather and it only takes a couple of minutes to get down to around 79-80C, I then turn the water off and steep for 10 minutes. Merry Christmas to you and family. cheers mate

      Down to 80c is the easy part. Cooling to pitching temp near impossible with the temp of the ground water during summer. I can get around the 27c mark into fermenter, then let the glycol chiller do the rest.

    Sounding good Gash. I would have thought that IBUs in the 50s is a little out of style (assuming ABV is ~5-6%). I would think high 30s low 40s would be more appropriate. Cheers!

    Just wondering, why not run the pump when mashing in and also when boiling. This would make mashing easier and would mean temperatures are even throughout when boiling.

It's really good, smells fruity in the packet and ferments like a beast! What is the point of a recirculating pump if you are going to stir it so much anyway? Am I missing something? I am evaluating whether an all in one system is worth getting

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před 5 lety

      Stirring is good for any mash, makes sure you don't have dry spots or channeling, helps to even out temperatures and stops the grain bed compacting. A pump isnt needed for a simple mash, but it comes in handy for temperature changes, it saves verloufing by hand and is good for transferring wort. People tend to over think the simple process of mashing, you can mash in a shoe if you preheat it and insulate it. You'll find most commercial breweries tuns will have a stir arm and if not they'll stir during the mash. All systems have their good and bad points, best thing about an all in one system is the the ease of setup, pack up and cleaning. Emptying a keggle full of grain is no fun at all. Cheers!

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před 5 lety

      I've never had a blocked pump in the robo after all these years! I'm still not sure how it happens to people, the false bottom stops 99% of the hops and the bits that do get past are very fine. Cheers mate!

    What water to grain ratio do you use for your mash?

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  Před 5 lety

      I dont go by ratios in the single vessel units, just go by feel. I guess you could go by ratios, work out your water to grain, then add the dead space below malt pipe and the bottom, and a small bit for the sides. maybe 4 or 5 Litres (1 Gallon) So for this recipe it would be close to 5kg of grain, and at 3:1 that would make 15L plus another 4-5L for the dead spaces, would make 19-20L. I used 20L for this recipe. Cheers!
