Till Death Do Us Apart...Live or Die!
I really like how Chozen changed in Cobra Kai. It shows that someone as dark and cold as he was is capable of changing and finding redemption and forgiveness in themselves. However, this can only happen if that person chooses to change.
Well, when someone spares you in a life-or-death fight, even when you choose death, that can make you rethink your life choices.
@@InkAndPoet doesn’t work on everybody. Look how after being defeated by Goku and being sliced in half, Frieza begged for his life. Goku reluctantly gave Frieza some of his own Ki energy as a show of mercy and Frieza quickly turned it on Goku because he couldn’t accept his defeat, forcing Goku to finish Frieza off.
Chozen is the Zuko of Cobra Kai
I can’t wait to see him in season 5
Chozen realizes that, had he never met Daniel, he would've still most likely have been the same dishonorable thug who arrogantly enjoyed pushing others around while cheating them out of their vegetables. Daniel beat him but decided to show mercy, a move that effectively kickstarted his road to redemption. He owes Daniel big time, and he knows it. His humiliation was, ultimately, a valuable life lesson in humility.
4:09 - The hand drums, the music swelling, Kumiko’s look back at them... 35 years on, this is still goddamn epic!

Daniel beats Sato's top student in a fight to the death, only to get his ass kicked in the next movie by a high school student. Did he someone forget Karate between the two movies?
Well Daniel and Mike Barnes were pretty much the same age, Barnes was 17 and Daniel had just graduated high school the previous year, according to the wiki.
Chozen was more about "flash and pizazz" than an actual disciplined, karate expert. He was a coward deep down, and this is shown when he refused to help Daniel help rescue the little girl in the storm. Also, he doesn't know how to take a hit like Daniel does. Not to mention, saving your crush's life and having the whole crowd root for you are pretty damn good motivators.
Barnes on the other hand had won several karate tournaments already, had natural talent, but Daniel was scared shitless of him; and rightly so, the kid's a total violent nutjob who's beating up some random dude (Daniel) and his girlfriend for money. Daniel didn't even want to compete in the tournament to defend his title, he had zero motivation besides *possibly* getting the kid off his back.

I came back to this after seeing Chozen in season 5. I’m so glad he got included much more in that season and I think Sato and Miyagi would be so proud of how much he changed if they were both still alive.
Karate Kid 2 was my favorite of the movies. The first movie was iconic but I only loved the final tournament and the karate training scenes. Karate 2 on the other hand the entire movie was great to watch from start to finish. I also love the cast and the plot
Exactly, I don't like it much more than the first but it still is my favorite. U can feel the emotion behind each punch Daniel gives Chozen
It's corny and formulaic. Miyagi's wife and son were killed in first movie. Then all of a sudden Miyagi's father is on his deathbed and has to run to his side. Oh but wait. Miyagi left Okinawa after betraying old best friend Sato who still harbors resentment and wants to kill Miyagi. Miyagi was never married we learn, first movie lied. Miyagi Senior dies and his dying wish is that Sato and Miyagi forgive each other but Sato cannot. Then we learn Miyagi's true love never married Sato and so now Miyagi and she can rekindle love. At the same time, her niece Kumiko falls madly in love with Daniel and he falls in love with her after a few days. Meanwhile Sato's nephew Chozen bullies Daniel pretty much throughout whole movie. Finally Sato blackmails Miyagi into agreeing to fight to the death and Daniel and Kumiko profess their love. Oh but wait once again, an unannounced severe tropical storm comes and destroys the village but not without healing Sato and Miyagi. Chozen runs off in disgrace but comes back and lures Daniel into risking his life for a girl who leaves him by start of the next movie. Oh yeah. Great movie. (Yes it's entertaining but ultimately very silly)
@@dannymartinez9371 Oh, the movie called "The Karate Kid" is fucking silly? Who would've thought?
@@dannymartinez9371 I don't know how recapping the entire movie was supposed to prove your point in any way. This movie must've really hurt you.
After he got Daniel to try and execute the crane kick, Chozen was like," get the fk outta here with that."
When Chozen says, "I cannot hear you Uncle. I am dead to you, remeber?", it makes me feel bad for him. Chozen looked up to his Uncle as if he were his father. Everything he knew, he learned from him. Including the value of honor. So when Chozen seess his Uncle forgive Miyagi after a lifetime of hatred, as well as constatly being "disrespected" by Daniel and berated by his own Uncle, he feels like everything he knows is just falling apart. Just like he's dead to his uncle, his uncle is also dead to him.
And it was all Danny Boy’s fault.
I like how daniel tried the kick from the first movie
Same
“Never let them know your next move” Chozen being Miyagi Do student. He knew the next move
Same, that was an awesome moment, it reminds me of that scene in The Dark Knight Rises where Batman tries to go dark on Bane during their first fight against each other in the sewers, and then Batman tries to use the darkness to his advantage, and Bane shut that shit down and said, you are using the dark as your weapon?
I was born in the dark.
I love when a new villain anticipates a main protagonist’s signature attack that helped him beat another villain or villains in the past, only for this new villain to counter it and shock the protagonist and audience.
Live or die?
Chozen "Die"
Daniel "How about live?"
Chozen: "Why?"
Daniel "Because I'm gonna need you to defeat Terry Silver and destroy Cobra Kai in season 5, about 35 years in the future"
Chozen's development is crazy, deffo the MVP of season 5
After hearing about Chozen and Kumiko’s story. I can imagine how horrible this moment was for Kumiko. Imagine having your childhood best friend/crush threatening to murder you
The whole bridge thing always tickled me. The gap in the moat is like 7 feet, at most and easily cleared with a short run up by anyone with a smidgin of athletic ability. If anyone was intent on intervening, they could have easily jumped that gap and helped put a stop to it all.
It would take a while and be obvious that the person was running across. Not ideal for a hostage situation with a fight to the death going on. And 7 feet is not insignificant.
@@BruceWayne-fj9bm I’m 50 and I could make that jump 50 times in a row. But I’ll be first to admit, I would be unable to beat Chosen in a real fight. I could take out Daniel though
@@lethalwolf7455 okay dude lmao why don’t you go fantasize about how your school would have not been Second string if you didn’t tear your ACL. Did you not notice the knife to the woman’s throat or did you think that was for arsthetic purposes?
@@beckyscleanersock8395 The knife was gone and Kumiko was no longer under threat, once the fight with Daniel started.
I think the point being made here is that pretty much the entire village was in attendance and 4-5 able bodied men could’ve certainly subdued and restrained Chosen once the knife was out of the picture, preventing a likely murder. And all facts presented in the story leading up to this point to Daniel definitely not winning this thing. Chosen had trained his entire life for this kind of thing and was even tasked with teaching hand to hand combat to US special forces, if you recall. Daniel definitely could’ve beat Johnny and possibly(but less likely) Mike Barnes in a tournament setting. But a fight to the death against Chosen would be suicide. I like to believe Daniel knew this but was willing to give his life to save the woman he loved, making his actions all the more heroic.
I can understand why Chozen wouldn't have wanted to make a move on Kumiko years later after putting a knife to her throat and knocking her out.
2:49 That was the same kick that Bobby Brown used to Daniel’s Leg at the tournament, Daniel learned from his mistake ever since
Bobby used that kick on Daniel's knee but Chozen uses that kick on Daniel's face.
This scene shows you there is a huge difference in fighting in a dojo and fighting in the streets

I loved these movies as a kid. It's so crazy to watch now. The secret technique was to swing your arms wildly like a little drum thing that everyone used to signal it was time for said technique.
I think it was supposed to be like a tactical sidestep of the punch, while simultaneously delivering a counter of your own...but for real, it was pretty corny 😂
Man Chozen has changed so much since here. I think one of the funniest scenes of the franchise has gotta be Daniel, Johnny and Chozen singing Eye of the Tiger together in the back of that limo!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I still cannot believe this is the same Chozen in Cobra Kai.
"that was a long time ago"
I like how Daniel looks like a legit badass trading blows with Chozen but then in 3 can't even land a shot on Barnes.
barnes is better then chosen in kk3
Strange to me why people still dont get it. Is Clubber Lang better then Ivan Drago and Apollo Creed only because Rocky was afraid of him, and Clubber destroyed him in 2 rounds? No! It was simply because Rocky was mentally not in the best state when he fought him for the first time, his peace with Mickey was troubled. In the rematch he was back to normal and beat Clubber in 3 rounds, while Apollo and Drago reached the 15th round against him.
Same with Daniel in KK3. Even before Barnes and Silver showed up, for the first time Daniel and Miyagi were not in peace. Daniel wanted to defend his All Valley title + buy Miyagi a Bonsai shop, Miyagi wanted Daniel not to defend his title and not buying him the shop, go to College instead.
Even if Daniel in both cases agreed, he needed days to make the decision. But he wasnt really happy about it.
In KK1 Daniel fought for Ali, in KK2 he fought for Kumiko, but in KK3 he fought for nothing and nobody. This changed in the last second when Barnes insulted Miyagi, called him a fake and phony. This was the moment when Daniel had a real reason to fight him. Even Miyagi told him: "Your best Karate is still inside you, now its time to let it all out", i mean Miyagi realized Daniel wasnt at his best.
Then Daniel unleashed his best Karate and Barnes was defeated by one counter move.
Next example:
In KK2 Daniel destroyed 6 thick ice blocks with one strike. In KK3 he had trouble to break a single inch board.
And look how Johnny, Dutch, Jimmy, Tommy, Bobby, Chozen and Barnes fought against Mr Miyagi himself:
After ONE attack from Miyagi, Johnny, Dutch, Jimmy, Bobby and Barnes were out cold. Chozen survived the first attack from Miyagi and took the spear again. After the second attack he was on the floor, but not out like Barnes, Johnny and the others, he was still able to call Miyagi a coward.
The director of KK and Rocky was John Avildsen, and it looks like he wanted to repeat the Rocky 3 story in Karate Kid 3, making a plot when the hero is mentally not at his best state and more vunerable because of that. Rocky and Daniel were both scared of Clubber and Barnes, but this was not because those two were better as their other opponents, it was mainly because they both were mentally not 100%, the had lost their eye of the tiger.
And when Barnes fans always say he beat Daniel before in street fights. Yes, so did Chozen too! He completely toyed with Daniel in Okinawa. Daniel only landed one cheap shot on him when Chozen looked the side, so Daniel could run away with Kumiko.
Chozen even beat Daniel up easy when Daniel had a spear as weapon.
Cobra Kai Season 5 underlined again how Daniel LaRusso is:
The guy is a hot shot, stubborn but a good guy. And he needs a reason to fight. His two fights with Silver should end this discussion once and for all. In the first fight he was mentally not balanced (like mostly in KK3) and his wife and children had left him, in the second fight he was 100% balanced and his wife and children supported him.
Watch KK1 and KK3 again: Both Johnny and Barnes won their fights 3-0, i mean all of them. They didnt loose one point. So you see they are not far away from each other, maybe relative equal. The difference was in KK1 Daniel fought for Ali and himself, while in KK3 he fought for nobody, only in the final moment for Miyagi after Barnes insulted Miyagi.
In Cobra Kai, Chozen has become such a better character much well more developed and respected. Also, the lack of music when he slides on the string to enter is fantastic, it doesn't draw attention to add surprise in a new way
This should’ve been the third movie
Chozen knew Terry Silver's address! 😂😂😂
Hahaha yeah
Best final fight and movie of the trilogy.
I remember seeing this as a kid, I was 6 or so at the time. Having loved the first movie so much I expected part II to be very much the same, and how wrong I was. It taught me at a young age about so many things...family, sacrifice, honor, and even death. I still well up with tears when Daniel comforts Mr. Miyagi after his father passes. And in the final fight when Miyagi says "This not tournament, this for real." It hit me so hard. Life, and death. What a great movie.
The first movie was better overall, but KK2 held up on it’s own pretty well. I found KK3 to be unrealistic and silly, but Cobra Kai made it a bit better.
Chozen: "I fight him to death."
Johnny: "Oh yeah. What are you a ghost or something???"
By showing mercy, Daniel later would learn pressure points to disarm someone
Chozen is a fuckin bad ass in season 5, glad they brought him back

I wonder how Chozen will kicked Terry's ass in Season 5.
Knowing him he’ll probably throw kenny in terry’s face.
Well in Cobra Kai protoganists are Johnny Lawrence and Miguel Diaz. It's them begining to train karate and reopening cobra kai dojo set's up entire story. Everybody else, including Daniel are just really reacting to what started in episode 1. So in the end, I think it will be Johnny & Miguel who will have to fight the last big bosses. Johnny will need to set his score straight with Terry Silver, while Miguel will probably have to defeat another wunder kid from cobra kai. Probably not Kyler, who was beaten by so many times, that he became a living meme at this point. This alway got me. these two Karate experts, trained in advanced techniques for attack and defense and the final move that is used to end the fight is...a few hook punches. No technique or skill set at all, just regular punches. that for some reason he did not defend against.
they arent punches its another karate technique specifically countering an attack to the torso, he is using the back of his hands
The technique was blocking and attacking simultaneously. You could see that Chozen tried to punch. But Daniel was using one hand to punch and one hand to block at the same time.
