Putting on the viking hat and that big opera note. That is what theater is all about.
yas!!!!
Exactly.
Besides, who could resist putting on their Wagner, given this opportunity? Anyone else have 'Flight of the Valkyries' playing in their head, right now?
Yes I lived that!
"When in doubt, twirl" might save you from awkward conversations
Philip Ellwell I just need to see this done in real life, or a skit. When you get asked a question in an interview, twirl. The teacher calls you out when you haven't the answer, twirl. The end of your first date... twirl xD
Officer: Do you know how fast you were going?
Person: *Twirls several times*
Philip Ellwell i actually once did that when two dudes approached me from two different directions to talk to me about green peace and i kinda panicked. i must've confused them a lot because they forgot to talk about green peace and told me i got 'cool moves'
That might work on the cable people at Walmart:
"Sir, would you like to hear about our free cable hookup?"
Me: *does fancy twirls in other direction*
*Awkwardly wants to keep this conversation going*
*Twirls into comment*
Young Malinda was so dramatic and I love it
Yes great fun and thank you for sharing! When are you going to reprise your role as Olivia Twist? :D
Dralinda
A wise person once said. " Gradually Watermelon "
Well I like shapes so
Darren Auberry and every day I find some new railway
Daemi Ax 😂😂😂
Ya? Well my linen’s such a *spices*
Push and pull like the work of change
Um did anyone else notice that half this stuff isn't even cringey and is actually pretty impressive?
i thought your voice as a child was amazing!!
Exactly my thought. This is far from cringe-worthy. I think it's fantastic!
Maggie 132 it was better than mine...
Maggie 132 it still is!
"Hang on a little longer, Skyler, I gotta sing to you." XD
WOT YE STARRIN AT
Ikr lol
"The eyebrows are...sperms..." Best choice of wording Melinda. 10/10. 🤣
"When in doubt, just twirl."
Did you mean _Lucius Malfoy from AVPS_?
Butterfly Taster YAS
BAHAHAHA
Yuss
YES
HE'S LIKE A GIRL!

I was in doubt, so I twirled to the like button

I'M BIOLOGICALLY FEMALE AND WE'RE DOING OLIVER FOR OUR NEXT SCHOOL MUSICAL AND I WANT TO PLAY DODGER SO BAD AND THAT JUST GAVE ME SO MUCH HOPE OMG THANK YOU
Jaden Fox post it on your channel please
Whut..?
+1 for the pro-arts education comment.
I work in the sciences and a surprising number of very technical people are also very artistic. In the lab I work in alone there is a whole jazz group, with others that play in the orchestra or at least did music when they were younger. Arts isn't just for the actors/musicians of the world, it's for all of us.
Why isn't this comment at the top of all?
You have to + it
I take science in high school and am majoring in chemistry and I agree with you 100%
When I was in grade 10 they shut down the choir program due to lack of funding. I know choir wasn't the only arts to get the shaft either when I was in high school.
Fortunately, I still got to be in Provincial Honours Choir. With no choir program it was difficult getting my audition in due to there being no choir program. grade 11 there was no Provincial Honours Choir due to lack of funding. In grade 12 I wasn't able to try out because no matter how hard I tried to get the form from the band teacher, he just didn't care about anyone interested in choir. He eventually got me the form, 2 weeks after the deadline had passed.
Now you can just get the form online, but back then I doubt the BCMEA even had a web site.
Yes!! Writer here, and I agree with you - as would my neuroscientist husband who comes from a whole extended family of theatrical/musical types. The arts obviously encourage imagination (plus empathy, self-confidence, team-work etc.), and as Einstein said: “Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.” It infuriates me when people don't value creativity - *I* might not be making any huge contributions to the world, but you can guarantee the people who ARE have a huge capacity for imagination and creativity.
This must be the 'Beauty and the Beast' performance where Malinda wore that yellow dress she re-used for one of her videos.
snoproblem right! she mentioned that in the Once Upon A December video.
I mean this sincerely- I'd pick Kid Malinda over Emma Watson to play Belle anyday of the week! :-)
Edit: I also really liked your performance as the Artful Dodger. I humbly request a cover (straight or a GTS version) of "Why Should I Worry" from Oliver And Company :-)
Jean Gentry I agree, but brits don't have an accent when they sing. Common mistake.
Well, not unless they try to keep it at least.
Daedalus 27 of course.
I'd agree, but having an actress as young as Kid Malinda might be getting too close to creepy territory...
Timothy McLean fair point- but id still choose her- just rework some things 😃
Teensy Malinda is absolutely adorable. Also, just because you said you'd never get to play him again, I now request you do one of The Artful Dodger's songs for Google Translate Sings (not that I've ever seen Oliver or know what songs he actually HAS). Or a cover, whichever.
Jessica Källberg thatd be hilarious
you were soo cute as a kid!!! Makes me wish i tried joining the plays my high school had even though i am terrified of singing in front of people lol
"Fish and Ships" 😂😂
Guns and ships, but fish
Your London accent wasn't too bad. My parents are both true cockneys but I'm a little messed up. I'm too posh apparently 😂
"lesbian love in Oliver Twist. good." honestly same
Maya Joy I guess you can say it's quite the... TWIST!!! hahahaha... I'm not funny...
Maya Joy omg i get the joke lol
Valerie Lorleberg I don't
Since she enjoyed it so much, I'm now picturing her doing what in opera are called "trouser roles"--male roles traditionally played by women. Hmmm. 😉💜 I think she'd look great and perform well in (male) drag. Let's see...reprising Marlene Dietrich singing in her white tux, Judy Garland singing and dancing in her black leotard/tux, and Julie Andrews jazzing it up in full drag in "Victor, Victoria"!
Please do google translate sings "Gaston" with Jonathan young or Caleb hyles
I NEED THIS [she should do it with brian hull though]
I wanna see your whole Dodger performance. You are hilarious but in a good way, because if I had sat in the crowd I might have had just as much of a blast as you.
+OPFreak 100%! The combination of the over the top accent and physicality that Malinda showed made it so hilarious!
OPFreak yes id love that so much
I love the 'Fist of Pure Emotion' in the first clip
YOUR HAIR IS ON FLEEK I JUST CAN'T
MKR - cute and talented at all ages. Watching those dvd's in your dotage will make you glad you have them!
Hahahahahahahah "Lost it. Where is the belt?" Really cracked me up :D I'm still searching for my belt. If you see it somewhere, let me know ;)
JuliasEmpire me toooo
HAHA IM LAUGHING YOU EARNED A SUB
Two things: I suggest you do Sincerely Me from Dear Evan Hansen as a Google Translate, or itself, either way, you would probably rock it. Also, I wish I could get a guy to kiss me as easily as that girl kissed you as the artful dodger.
Michael Griswold
Well, having it blocked into a play is an easy way to do that.
Omg how do u have that much talent
It's not talent, it's work and passion.
Alicia Ello PHANDOM!!!!!
Ah, blue eyeshadow. Every woman between the ages of 20 and 30 has been there. And regrets it. But would probably geek out and spend far too much money on it if we found the exact same shade tomorrow.
wheres my doesn't need a notification bc they're on youtube 24/7 squad?
yo
Remedee KD in india BC means sister f***** 😂😂
Remedee KD hi there
I thought of Thomas Sanders when I read the title hahah I've said it before and I'll say it again, a collab between you two would be Epic.
Also, you were super cute, this was a perfect video
That would be the best video in the world :D
2:42 Keep calm
&
And twirl on!
LOL😹
Be as self-critical as you want. You could tell how talented you were then.
Lets just say that your entrance game will be forever better than mine. My best entrance was probably walking through a closed curtian to music... As a narrator. Btw, I have had better roles 😂 like Dorothy in the wizard of oz. Maybe there's something connected with good roles and 10 year olds... 😂
Kayla Longstaff my best entrance was coming in from the audience and just standing there awkwardly, then lining up with a bunch of other girls, and then my friend walked across the stage, and his character was supposed to ‘do a double take’ and it was really awkward. Ok, just had to get that out of my system. That was a fun musical.
'When in doubt, twirl' now there's a good life lesson! Just getting into your videos I'd wondered if you had an acting background because of those wonderful expressions in your Google Translates, seeing that last clip was awesome!
I know this is a weird tangent to go on, but people who are learning English should really check out Malinda's channel. Her voice is just so clear and she enunciates every word without it sounding fake or over the top. Super easy to understand.
heyitslarib Classically trained singers tend to be like that. Watch an interview of an opera singer like Renee Fleming or Susan Graham and you'll the same clarity and precise enunciation in their speech.
You should do a google translate of a song from Heathers!
WELL FUCK ME GENTLY WITH A CHAINSAW
@@paulinacoffin5704 This is Me DNA use our Who
“lesbian love in oliver twist” *slow clap*
No dislikes... Thasss muh girl
Mena Saldivar 1 actually
WASNT ME I SWEAR
Mena Saldivar i disliked
Riven Phobia WHY
I'd like to see Malinda sing some of these old songs with her grown-up singing skills. And maybe a dash of Google Translate.
OMG!!!!! I'm doing Beauty and the Beast this Saturday and Sunday and when you said you did it too I FLIPPED OUT!!!! I was a little late to the video because I was at practice. I'm the Beast and I'm going to pass out from excitement! :D
A. You were a very dramatic 9 year old.
B. You were so lucky to experience that much of theater, acting, and singing all through your childhood.
As an old geezer who had the pleasure of seeing Broadway musicals of the 50s,60s,and 70s, I can say that you would have fit right in with the stars of that period.Even going back to the "Golden Age", composers like Rodgers and Hammerstein,Hart, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, and others would have loved you in their shows. If you had been around then, the Broadway Divas of that time would have been looking over their shoulders.
Your personality, voice, on stage/camera presence especially bring to mind the greats Mary Martin and Barbara Cook. Really.
Ohh I hope her channel grows I love MKR sooooooo much
I'm so happy to be able to introduce my cousin to your channel, as she's an aspiring theater actress with a beautiful voice.
All of her theatricality really shined when she played the Cat In The Hat in Sussical.
this is amazing. I have such a big smile on my face
in the first clip you were IN TO IT GIRL!
"When in doubt, twirl." Best advice ever lol. That accent in the last clip was awesome.
You at 10: Dancing and singing in musicals and operas
Me at 10: Trying not to trip and fall while walking
in our school also the drama about beauty and the beast was done dramatically and you can relate to the part about the enchantress
I love the intro
where do u get the background music
before the video starts GOOD LUCK😂❤
"When in doubt, twirl" ok will do, thanks for the advice Malinda 😂
BURD MOOVMENTZ 🤣👏 I dies and cannot stop watching that bit lol
*BIRD MOVEMENTS*
There was a time when men played women.
Sarah Sears And when women played men.
Virtal women still play men a lot
I know
Virtal well, not really. Women couldn’t act until the reign of King Charles II in the Stuart era in the 1600’s, so until then, men played women and it DEFINITELY wasn’t the other way around
CORRECTION!!! Most men couldn't work as men, so they used the most obvious solution! Have adolescent boys play women! Because women can't play women, that's ridiculous!
Omg this is honestly the best one I've seen, your so talented even when you were young ❤️❤️❤️
First off I have to chuckle - you have all of these memories on DVDs. Those of us growing up in the earlier years (or maybe a few years before) the digital age didn't quite have that. Maybe VHS or Home movies, if that, otherwise 35mm stills :) What I would give to have the ability to go back and look at past performances, either in the pit orchestras, on stage (good ol' Gilbert & Sullivan), or doing set work and lighting design ("Once Upon A Mattress", 1985, off-Broadway, but one of my most fun and memorable moments - I've still got the lighting plots). It's wonderful to be able to view these with you and have a laugh, but what I really see are those foundations that made you what you are today. Every one of those clips should make you proud of what you've accomplished. What I'd like to see is how your mom and dad react to seeing those videos again. From what we've seen of your family, they would be the proudest parents in the world! Thanks for sharing those!
I was dodger when I was 15 in a school play of Oliver and I loved it too! That was also probably where my entrance game was the strongest! 😂😂 we had this massive scaffolding and I got to stand on the steps really high up looking down at the whole audience and slowly make my way down when I was speaking loved it 😂❤️
I don't want to one up you or anything, but when I was eleven I was already playing flower girl 3 in my school musical.
Jolien Van Dijk I played villagers wife and pearl lol
My new motto: When in doubt, TWIRL! I'm trying that in my next meeting at work.
I loved how you totally upstaged poor Michelle in the box. LOL!
The people at my middle school only did plays not musicals because they wanted people who couldn’t sing to be included. There was sometimes roles that sang and when they learned that I was committed to drama club and a good actor they started picking shows that had singing parts. I got all of the singing parts but then finally got a break in 7th grade when all the singing parts were very small roles and I got the lead. I wish that we did musicals but at the same time I’m glad we didn’t because by the show my voice would be dead.
Ahahahahahahahaha fish and ships! I get it! Never heard that one before...
When I was 8 or 9 I attempted to reach Kenny Rodger's low notes (and failed miserably) and you...YOU WERE FREAKING NAILING THAT VIBRATTO!!!!!!!! AND DANCING!!!! I FORGOT THE LYRICS OF A SONG RIGHT BEFORE I SANG TO MY KINDERGARTEN TEACHER!!
I'm glad I'm not the only girl that's played the male lead before. I was a male shark in West Side Story two years ago, understudy for Mr. Mushnik in Little Shop of Horrors last year, and I played King Claudius in my school's production of Hamlet this year. I guess I'm just destined to always crossdress for shows xD
I love how she said, "I love you." It was like a command. 😂
I was in a production of the Little Mermaid. We still hadn't figured out the choreo for the second half of Under the Sea by Hell Week. I missed the last rehearsal, and had to figure out the choreo during the first show. It was the most stressful moment of my life.
"The next one is going to be really weird"
Oh, and Fish and Ships wasn't?😆
I can imagine the awkward level when Malinda (Belle) had to say I love you to some random kid
I can totally relate to the artful dodger thing because I played ladalord from James and the giant peach, and o was wearing basically the same thing and it was so much fun. especially since the whole outfit (top hat, tailcoat, and all) was sparkly pink. However I never quite played it as a guy or a girl, but the character was male.
I have always had a problem being myself in front of people. Musical theater gave me that opportunity. The anxiety seemed to melt away. I really enjoyed watching these clips.
Just watching all your videos of your performance of you in your musicals. It makes me think about all the plays i used to be in growing up.
Even the ones i been in though my High school days 😉.
Living for that artful Dodger tho! Taking me back to my days in Annie and Bugsy Malone (ahhhh I miss show days)
"When in doubt, twirl"
Me : *In a social conversation and just twirls away
Friend : ...What the freak are you doing
Me : n-nOTHING
My best memories of high school will forever be my drama classes and the parties that followed the end of our productions XD
We don't do musicals at my school, because we don't do volunteer/audition for the whole school type stuff. My school (which I've just graduated from btw) has a drama class you can sign up for like any other class for the last three years and each of those classes does their own production which doesn't have a huge budget but still ends up being pretty awesome despite our lack of a real stage (we have pieces of staging in our school hall which actually makes for a better stage sometimes because it means we can have different levels and easily separate sets etc it's great) So I've been involved in three productions in the last three years, two acting, one making props. Aladdin (sans most of the singing), Lysistrata (ancient Greek play) and Dark of the Moon (about witches and hillbillies)
i can totally second the fact that dodger is so fun to play. i got to be dodger my freshman year and it was amazing!!! can never top it
...always a theatrical little bugger... and we LOVE it!
Malinda, you've always been beautiful and talented. There's no one I'd rather listen to than you. Your voice is amazing 💖
Edges is an interesting pick for a high school show! Actually sung Lying There in year 12, it was one of my favourites. I didn't know how to belt properly either :P So I sung that in a really loud head voice (idk what you'd call that though). Now that song is extra depressing because I understand it.
In our school the first two years of secondary school we have to do music and drama. You’ve also really inspired me to work hard in those subjects!
...and nothing has changed in your theatricality.. and we LOVE IT!!!! keep it up.
I remember doing Beauty and the Beast for the summer of 7th grade, and ughhh so many memories!
U can dance so much well
That was a really fun watch! I like how you're secure enough to show this. 🙂
And that Viking hat moment. No wonder you've come so far. 😄
You were amazing as a kid! I haven't heard a kid use vibrato like that...it was pretty good! I seriously envy your talent.
6:38
you're welcome, friends
it was just sooo cute!
how could you get so comfortable and self-confident that age?
you are just amassing,
I love your theatrical performances in all your videos, it's what makes your videos, yours, and highly entertaining! :D So fun seeing what you looked like when you were younger :D
When she said fish and chips, I legit expected a parody of Guns and Ships from Hamilton 😂
Alright, so in my school's production of Oliver, it was kids and adults and stuff, so basically a teacher's daughter/ex-students was Mr Bumble and a teacher was the workhouse cook or whatever her name was, and it was very lesbian. School plays are usually so dramatic and gender-bent and it's awesome.
You look exactly the same as when you were a kid!!!!!
Back on this video again and I really want to see the whole performance of you playing the Artful Dodger, literally I need that in my life 😂
It was so cute to watch a your younger self :D I wish I had had that many opportunities to play in theater!
i hope in my country soon, theres a Drama Musical like this, ill watch that musical every week 😂
Starts relating to it on a personal level 👌 (plus thomas and superfruit reference)
Killing the british accent
I love that in my town we've got enough boys doing theatre to fill main male roles but I'm still kinda annoyed cuz I wanna play all the guy roles/ the closest I got to that was being a background member of the t-birds in a small production of grease.
I've always wanted to be in a school musical, but my only opportunity was "The Aristocats" in 5th grade. I auditioned for Marie, but I didn't get the role, so I was in the ensemble with the rest of my class. My high school doesn't have a theatre club, so I guess I'll be joining one in college?
I'm going into middle school this year, Jesus, time flies when you do nothing under a tree for an entire school year
In my school they don't do theatre (I'm English) and it's so sad. I love drama and singing so much. It's not fair
