This thing is insane. A true heirloom. Calling this watch the Terminator, it’s the last Gshock you’ll ever buy! Haha reminds me of a T800 or T1000 from the movies. I don’t think I’ll buy one though. With these more expensive models I look at them in terms of how many resin squares I can buy for the same price!
It's not the same thing. That's like saying how many Corollas can I buy for the price of a BMW M5. Just as a Rolex is probably not for you, neither is this. You're not paying for that little timing module. And if you think it's worth the same as those resin ones, go ahead and make one and lets see how much you charge for your equally intricate work. As with everything, you're not just paying for the cost of raw materials, if so, a Birkin bag would simply be $89 max, you'd only pay $19 for your iphone.
The new module has gold in it, a bit unclear as to why, possibly to reduce EMI or to provide greater corrosion resistance. If you are old enough to to afford one of these it should outlast you. If you are a rapper gifting one to your newborn 👶🏻 the 2099 calendar limit may not cut it.
I'm not really into the high spending g shocks. But I have to admit, the construction does appear to justify it's cost if I compare it to say my tudor bb58 (already a great value watch by most peoples accounts).
I found the initial metal versions way too 'blingy' and bought the GW-5000U-1ER instead. Yet this brushed titanium version: Waaaw! Thank you for the review, Rob! Best regards from Belgium
I can't wrap my head around Casio and their crazy expensive watches recently. I appreciate the upgraded chassis and materials, but I personally can't go back to this old module after having the GBX-100 and its 3482 module.
I really like it! This is the look to get in this exact finish. The very sharp details that enhance the iconic square design are super nice. I doubt I'll fork up the $$$$ to get one, tough. And, yet there's already a 3rd MR-G Square that is black with blue accents.. recently leaked photos. Looks pretty nic, too! All this is missing is glide lock clasp. Done! For fun, how fast could you deconstruct this and put it back together again? 😂
@@vitaboost The other day I went to a Casio AD to try on the GMW-B5000(most basic model) and found out it's one of the only few left in my city, and the fact that it cost almost 900 bucks. Yikes.
Yeah the blue accent one is gorgeous but $4,000 I just can’t on a Casio I realize it’s titanium but hell I can get a real gold seiko for way less than that and it’s made of gold !!!
Gave up TVA, had to decide between black and silver. Glad I went with silver. This is not anywhere near the stainless steel. Shame to have all the polished services covered by DLC on the black version
I can see this and the DLC going for the avid collector who makes a decent living, fine. Just can't see it, coming close to the price of an Aquaterra or Quartz Grand Seiko. But each their own, and good to see differences on collectors.
Titanium is more comfortable to wear than stainless steel, but I question the durability of multi piece case construction over a couple of blocks of steel screwed together. The price is not excessive if considered against other top luxury brands with similar levels of finishing but at that price point I expect most potential customers would be looking for a traditionally styled analogue watch. Very desirable but only for collectors rather than daily wear. I will just have to make do with the full metal stainless steel version at a tenth the price.
I would certainly wear this daily, if I owned one. Or at least every other day. I see this in a two-watch collection easily, paired with a dress watch for functions, and this for most everything else. As for outdoor activities, that’s what I’d wear my Apple watch for. I’ve never really considered the Apple Watch a watch, anyways. It’s a wrist computer/Notification Center, to me.
I reached out to Casio USA and was told that between the two, that the black DLC version has a coating that is several times harder than the silvery titanium carbide version. I really think the silver is nicer but the durability is a concern.
That’s precisely what’s so interesting about this watch. It makes you reconsider what a luxury watch is. When you buy a Rolex/luxury watch the cost of the movement/analog components costs very little and you pay 3x+ the cost of this watch.
I currently own about 35 Casios, including 5 squares, so I’m a fan(atic). With over 100 wristwatches, I do not wear any watch enough that I have justified spending much over $500 for any one watch. Although I like this new watch very much, would I really wear it more often than my GMWB5000D-1? If it was closer to $1000, I might consider it. The Casio I wear the most is my GW-S5600-1JF (46 gm.), which is what I wear bicycling.
I rather have quality over quantity this thing is so satisfying on the wrist I wouldn’t take 100 lesser kiddie watches over a grail. I gave my 500 dollar sub watches all it my 10 year old nephew. This is a grown up ‘s G Shock
Nice watch but lug to lug is too big because of the links after and sorry that’s not worth the price. I really like both of my Gshock GWM 5610 because there nice wearable and not too expensive.☺️

Hi Rob, a very valid question here: did Casio update and optimise the lug-to-lug width (including the bracelet endlink protruding spans) on the MRG square? The standard metal squares, be it a Ti or SS, have rather big lug-to-lug width, kinda bothering smaller wrists.
How resistant is the titanium bracelet to scratches? The all-silver GMWB5000D picks up scratches so easy, do you think it will be the same for titanium?
5 min 22. is that an imperfection? Oh no. never gonna buy one again.......... got the stainless steel version, it is very nice to wear , I'm sure this is also. And it is true, i am never going to buy another one, because i don't need to. It will survive me probably. thx for the review Rob.

I like G shocks and have a few . I have been buying sinse 1984 but this one just does not look like a $3500 watch ? That is really ridiculous and to be honest to me looks worse than the other blingy abomination that was selling for $600? What i want to see is more versions of the GW 5000 in true form G shock resin case and strap. I would love to see somene drop the $3500 one off a building or belt it with a hockey stick?
With the bezel made out of so many parts instead of one solid single piece, I don't think it would survive the test.
they finally make one i like but the price........
