I'm thinking about this too. I am in the process of ripping my DVD and CD collections to my Drive but it is filling up rapidly. Am thinking that a private personal website built with this could be a catalogue/menu to access them to play. Now thinking that if I upload my ripped DVD videos to PRIVATE CZcams videos I can store and view them from there without using my Drive space for those large files. Same with my ripped CDs. But important to keep everything PRIVATE for copyright reasons.
First, thank you so much for your video. My problem. I created my first webpage with google sites and when published, it does not show or mimic the draft version. Any suggestions? Something I missed? Completely frustrated. Thank you in advance.
There could be a couple of reasons why your published Google Sites page isn't reflecting your draft version. Here's what you can try: 1. Check for Unpublished Changes: Open your Google Site in edit mode. Click the Publish button at the top. Google Sites might show you a side-by-side comparison of your draft (with unpublished changes) and the currently published version. Look for annotations highlighting any unpublished edits. If you see these annotations, simply click the Publish button again to confirm the changes and make your draft version live. 2. Clear Cache and Refresh: Sometimes your browser might be showing a cached version of your published page. Try these steps: Hard Refresh: Hold down the Ctrl key (or ⌘ on Mac) and press F5 to reload the page, forcing it to fetch the latest version from Google's servers. Clear Cache: Clear your browser's cache. The specific steps might differ slightly depending on your browser, but you can usually find this option in your browser settings under "Privacy" or "History."
Other than hiding a page from view, is there a way to password protect a page? I am a teacher and have a classroom website and would like to have some teacher resources included that students do not need to view.
I liked the tutorial it is very helpful. How do I upload pdf documents to google sites. I have downloaded some from google sheets but it only allows those with permission to view them and also only allows a fixed number to open the pdf. What do I do?
Very nice tutorial Scott, I do have a couple of questions, you did not talk about in your video. 1) If you are half way done, How do you save your project without publishing it? 2) I had a photo retouching portfolio in the classic version of Google sites, with side by side before and after pictures. When you click on the image you want to view, it would zoom in to see more details of the before and after. Is there a similar option on this new version of Google sites?
1. Saving your project: In the New Google Sites, your work is automatically saved as you make changes. You don't need to perform any specific action to save your progress. You'll see a message at the top saying "All changes saved in Drive" to confirm. This applies even if you're only halfway through building your site. You can safely close the browser tab or window, and your work will be preserved. 2. Image Zooming: Unfortunately, the New Google Sites currently doesn't offer a built-in feature for side-by-side image comparisons or zooming functionality like the classic version.
Maybe someone can help! On the right side of google sites are tabs: Insert Pages Themes. Clicking on the pages shows all the pages and subpages I have created. The problem is that the Home page is the only active page. All other pages are grayed out. Clicking on any page will not work. How do I get them to work, please?
Thank you for this very helpful tutorial video. Is it possible to upload files from your own computer? It looks like you can only upload from Google Drive. Thank you for any advice!
Thanks for helpful and thought provoking video. I've only just discovered Google Sites and not done anything with it yet. Am thinking of making a PRIVATE (only me to see it) Sites website with it as a catalogue / menu to my ripped DVD and CD collections which presently reside in my Drive. I could publish my collection to youtube as individual PRIVATE videos (ie only me able to see them) and link to them from my PRIVATE Sites website catalogue. That way I have CZcams store and provide the player for my mp3s and mp4s and not fill up my Drive with them... Just my thoughts...
Hi 👋 I would like to create a team workspace webpage. I was wondering if this is the best google tool to create a more visual workspace for my team, where we could add links to the shared drive or to other google suite objects. Thank you for your advice 🙏
Yes, Google Sites can be a great option for this type of space. However, you could also create a more visual Google Doc that can link to the same files/folders and keep everyone within Drive.
Nice video. After publishing a Google Sites website, it need not be hosted separately. Am I correct? You create a GS site first and want to move to WordPress later- is it possible?
While Google Sites offers some customization options for navigation, the ability to design entirely custom navigation buttons is limited. Here's what you can and cannot do: What you can do: Utilize the built-in navigation bar: Google Sites provides a navigation bar at the top or left side of your website, depending on your preference. You can: Edit the text labels on the navigation buttons to reflect your desired names. Change the color scheme of the navigation bar and buttons to match your website's design. Rearrange the order of the buttons within the navigation bar. What you cannot do: Change the button design: You cannot modify the button shapes, sizes, or add unique icons or images to them. Google Sites offers a limited set of preset button styles. Create custom drop-down menus: While Google Sites allows subpages, you cannot create intricate drop-down menus with custom button designs.
I created a button as per your tutorial but I am frustrated with placement. I want it onto of an image. Do you have more tutorials? Is there a book? Thank you again.

There are two main ways to add documents to your Google Sites webpage: 1. Embed a Google Doc: This option allows viewers to see a preview of the document directly on your webpage. They can also click to open the full document in Google Docs. Here's how to do it: Open your site in the new Google Sites interface. Click on the "Insert" button on the right side of the page. Choose the type of Google Doc you want to embed (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.). Select the specific document you want to add from your Google Drive. Click "Insert." 2. Link to a document: This option provides a link to the document on your webpage. Clicking the link will take viewers to the separate document in Google Drive (or wherever it's stored). Here's how to do it: Create a text box on your webpage where you want the link to appear. Type the text you want viewers to click on (e.g., "Company Policy Document"). Highlight the text. Click the "Link" icon in the editing toolbar. Paste the URL of the document you want to link to.

I want to create links to sections within my homepage, for example: I created an "About Us" section on my homepage and when someone clicks the navigation bar "About Us", I want them to be redirected to that section on the home page not taken to a new page. Can this be done?
Question: Is there a way to create a service page and put services in it but I do not want the service page to do anything , I other words , if I click in the menu service it does not go to the page service , I want to do nothing...i just want the sub pages to work only. I hope you can help. Thanks
