Thank you for this. I struggled to connect my "google bought" domain to the DNS for google sites and whilst waiting on updates I found your video that says it does not do SEO. Thats something i am glad I found out about before going down the google sites route. Great advice.

Came here to check if I have missed anything about Google Sites that might surprise me later, as I just stumbled on Google Sites yesterday and I am very pleased with it. Not for a business, but for a personal website, which seems to be becoming important for folks in academia. I kind of love it. It's super simple, and unlike other platforms (I used wix previously), I don't have to cough up over £100/year just to have a personal portfolio online. Especially since I don't need to post blogs, or collect subscription emails. :) Thanks for this video!

Currently, I'm using Google sites for my personal page, not necessarily because it's free but because of its simplicity.
That’s great! Google Sites is definitely simple, and that is a huge reason to use it. Plus, you can’t argue with free.
You can add Blogs, E-commerce, And Other Dynamic Features to Google Sites.
As a Google Sites designer for 13 years, Google Sites has always been intranet platform first and a website builder second in my opinion. Considering that, it still handles pretty well. New features are making templates more interesting, but nothing for ecommerce or SEO. Good points made!

Yeah, maybe you're right, or maybe you're expecting too much from something FREE.
But in my opinion, of all free website builders, Google site is still THE BEST, especially because it's very easy to arrange elements, as easy as working in Microsoft Word, has lots of features/elements, and no ANNOYING ads. And I think those are all things, that are still IMPOSSIBLE to get on other free website builders😁.

To add zip files to a Google Site the zip file has to be in your Google Drive. Then get a link you can share with anyone and embed the link to the zip file in a word, phrase or photo in the Google Site.

Another feature Google stood up and just lets it die. They would have been better off just adding to blogger. Remember when Blogger was king? If it wasn’t for wordpress, it might still be. Tumblr might be the best free option. Great video though.
I definitely got those gotcha's today as I was trying endlessly to build on google sites. Money wasted I feel however now I'm going to see if there is any other way to make it work before exiting stage left.

Will the SEO results be better if you have a custom domain linked to your google site? That's what I have setup. I'm new to all of this and just starting, so I'm not sure if it's working but I have a custom domain that takes you to my google site. Will the custom domain have a better chance of being picked up?

I purchased my domain on Google and now they are hitting up that they got to verify and need a photo ID, that's 2 days later after I purchase the domain. Is this ok. It seems bogus to me, but I need an opinion from a pro.

What can I say the story of My Life I tried building a site with Google sites it was impossible I figured out Google build it for teachers who can just put some documents and whatever so the entire Google site thing is just for teachers that's why it sucks and that's why it's limited functionality and with Google never talking to people you will never forget it out but if you're just looking for a domain and a place to just slap on your Google sheets your Google docs and all the Google products then it works good for the rest of us we have a tough learning curve.
It seems that the journey of building a site is a tough thing you find out a lot of problems and you never get any help from anyone. So you are CZcams video is definitely a starter for those who are on this journey of building a site.
For me I found to have a Google domain connected to other blog took me less than 45 seconds. I had a website with a domain up and running which was even better than WordPress I actually still have that site but I'm going to be transitioning to WordPress but anybody who's trying to build a website listen to what I'm telling you.
Purchase your domain at Google and nowhere else you will automatically be able to connect to blog on the blog will be perfect for your website because they have free templates that make it and feel like a website so I'm going to give you a good example of my own website that I have that I'm going to be customizing and transitioning to wordpress very soon so that you have a good idea what this is all about.

I just love Google Sites' simplicity. Namecheap also works well for auto redirects to naked domains.
